posted a message on Banana Brawl: thoughts?

I tried, really tried, with tempo mage, thinking being cute with apprentice, flamewaker and violet teacher would own this format.  Got absolutely pulverized by standard zoolock lists

posted a message on Pricing for New Hero Skins

After starting this thread, I've had a change of heart.  I think this is a good idea.

In order for the game to generate constant revenue, blizz have got to release new content.  In order for people to pay money for the content, it's got to be desirable somehow.  Given that this is a competitive card game, that means for something to sell, it's got to either look pretty, give a competitive advantage or offer non-competitive utility (e.g. interface improvements like extra deck slots, or ability to play on new devices).

Personally, I much prefer we see regular stuff like this to avoid business pressure on the game designers to repeatedly power creep cards.  I would also hate to see either Blizz charging $ for improvements to the game client or the game ruined by rapid power inflation.

At least with the new skins, if someone you play against splurged $ on them, that improved your gaming experience.  It definitely doesn't improve the new player experience when you get whacked by golden Dr Booms in rank 20/casual.

Haha, if each new hero had come with their own additional deckslot then a couple of these would have gone straight to my debit card

posted a message on Pricing for New Hero Skins

So, the pricing for the new hero skins is confirmed at $9.99 (or foreign equivalent), with no method of purchasing using in-game currency.

Obviously, that rules out die-hard FTP players from ever having the new heroes on their side of the board.  I've generally not been shy on spending money on Hearthstone, but somehow feel a bit disappointed by this release - I might pass completely but I haven't ruled it out yet.

Is anyone else put off by the cost for these?  Or are there fans out there just champing at the bit to part with 90 USD for the new heroes and show off their willingness to sink pocket money into the game?

posted a message on Heroes of the Storm card back

Thanks for the answers - looks like a solid day of playing is needed to get the card back.

Seeing the pic makes me want it even more!

posted a message on Heroes of the Storm card back

So, I haven't installed HotS yet, but do have a beta key.  I have essentially zero interest in actually playing HotS, but am happy to succumb to clever marketing tactics and play it for a couple of hours in order to get the card back.

Any idea how much HotS gaming is required to meet the player lv12 requirement?  Any tips and tricks for getting there as quickly as possible?

posted a message on Am I the only one lossing to FACE HUNTER?

Can't wait to lose game after game to Quick Shot -> Quick Shot -> Wolfrider -> Hero Power or whatever.

This does have anti-synergy with the way hunter sometimes plays (even face hunter), as you're often holding cards back for a couple of turns later to optimize uses of the hero power.  But this card looks very frustrating to play against in the mid game.  It's also one that I think you'd happily play 30 copies if you could.  Strongest card spoiled I think, and that is a bit sad :(

posted a message on Bane of Doom can now summon ANY collectible demon!

Now working fully on iOS after the update.  Very odd that it wasn't working before the client update and must mean that either iPads were connecting to old server code somehow or worse, that the decision on what demon to spawn is being made by the client (I really hope not).

Anyway, this is a strong effect now!

Rules question:  if an opponent controls Sylvanus on 2 life to my empty board, and I bane Sylvanus, does Sylvanus steal the demon spawned from bane?  I know the rules 'should' resolve the bane fully first, but hearthstone has plenty of places where the rules don't work as you might think from the wording.  Has anyone tested it?

posted a message on Bane of Doom can now summon ANY collectible demon!

I've been playing on IPad and have gotten only 1 mana trash from Bane from 4 castings so far.

Before I waste more time with it, has anyone else seen the new behavior on the IPad client, or do we need to wait for an update in the app store?

posted a message on Should I dust golden Onyxia?

At least play a couple of games with it before DE (it is sort of OK in a very greedy control warrior build, and is very dangerous in a token druid deck).   Golden onyxia covers your board in golden whelps which makes it pretty much the biggest bling card in the game.

posted a message on 1600 dust for next legendary. Which one to craft next?

Ragnaros is the 2nd go-to finisher in any control deck after Dr Boom.  If you choose not to include him in a late game deck, it's usually a meta call rather than because there is a card that's genuinely stronger in the deck.

If you specifically want to build handlock, save up enough for all of the missing cards before tying up your dust on the giants.  Handlock is a deck that sees a lot of its cards in the games that it wins, so missing a single key card makes a lot more difference than with other decks.
