posted a message on Does Zephrys the Great prove rigged card draw/discover system?

They are not attempts to shut down the discussion, they are counter-arguments. That's how arguments work, you present a view, others present a competing view.

Git Gud etc... that's more an insult etc...  But pointing out valid statistical modeling is not.

Having played HS since the first set, I feel nothing in terms of card draw being non-randomized. Sometimes I top deck the card I need, sometimes I get complete crapola. Play 100 games with one deck and count the card draws, then compare it to expected odds, see what you get. It will never match perfectly but if it is wildly off you may have something.

That said, I do think matchmaking is rigged to some degree. Blizzard is trying to smooth out the experience of winning and losing such that folks don't win too much or lose too much. The little spinner always lands on "worthy opponent" because that's more or less what the system is trying to ensure, you get someone that will offer you about the right amount of challenge for how well you are doing. Getting crushed, you get a little gimmie if they can find one for you. On a super hot streak? They will try to find you some hardcore challenge. Playing a crap deck (I often do) you may well get someone else dicking around. Play a total agro smasher deck and you won't get quite so many agro opponents because that would make things very lopsided. But you will get a few because sometimes it wants to stomp agro down a notch when it's running wild. That's my opinion, I can't back it up with facts.

But I've not had any experiences that felt like they were tinkering with the in-game randomness and I've seen a lot of variation in the results of RNG rolls in similar situations.

But if blizz change it then they will have a better idea how strong DH is so they can do more nerfs.

This only card is keeping them in check.

Blizard is fully capable of looking at the class when it isn't up against Warlock or even specifically Sacrificial Pact.

    Quote from b1ak1ce >>

I hate the speed of it, but whatever. It stupid to bitch about a Winrate of a (new) class being too high during the first 72 hours when obviously most people are going to play it because its new.

In a mirror match, the class has a 100% winrate.

That is not how it's calculated.  In a mirror, its win rate is always 50%. One demon hunter will always loose and the other will always win. When mirrors are heavy it pulls the win rate closer to 50% either lowering it if higher or raising it if lower.

posted a message on Did we just become Team 5's Guinea Pigs? That's.. BRILLIANT

Good on them for acting quickly.
Bad on them for not realizing how crazy strong those cards are. (It took me about 6 games to know they were rediculous)

We will likely see a round 2 of these nerfs.

My guess would be that withing Blizzard, some testers and designers realized these were crazy but they were over-ruled by others who either doubted that, or just had the priority of getting players really excited about this new class.

Right now, the folks that favored the latter need to be eating some crow.

Nice!  It's never happened to me. You got more in one pack than I got in 25 :P   Probably my worst opening yet.  I usually get two at the start of a new set.

Why arent I receiving the correct rewards? Just went from Bronze 10 to Gold 5 with 2 losses.. problem is for Gokd 5 reward I received 1 pack whereas I thought it was 2 packs and 4 rares?

The rewards listed are cumulative.  AKA the thing it lists for the Gold 5 instant reward includes everything you got before that.

I don't think I ever said that I didn't suck. in fact, my whole argument is that the ranking system should pit me agaisn't other people that suck, not players from diamond-legend leagues.

The irony is this. If it's matching you with diamond-legend players, it means you don't suck, you are actually pretty good.

All I know is I'm playing an oddball dragon warlock deck with a grand total of 1 legendary (gul'dan) and after "reaching" rank 20 in March I've been facing in order: all golden mecha'thun warlock, all golden cubelock, galakrond bomb warrior and quest mage. If this is the best the matchmaking can do, it's garbage, there's no two ways about it (especially since every single one of my opponents had 1000 wins on their class).

The matchmaking could care less what cards you own, it's about how much you win vs how much you lose. Some folks with awesome collections don't win all that much, and some folks with starter collections can win a lot. Basically, whoever you play against, they are playing hearthstone with about the same amount of success you are.

So, if your opponent has a deck full of golden legendaries, and you have one legendary card, congratulate yourself on overcoming a weaker collection with much greater skill.

posted a message on MetaBreaker Highlander Priest 73% winrate

It's a meta breaker because it's broken by the meta?  Not sure.

I did loose to one of these playing my wall priest, though the game was so dull and so long I eventually just gave up, The hero power does mean that in the long run, you will win.

It's a decent deck in an attrition match because it can generate so many cards in the course of the game. But it's really weak against any deck that can apply strong-fast board pressure.

posted a message on Blizzard: Oops!... We did it again

I like your spirit OP, but sorry, I'm going to play with the new toys until they bore me.  I will help craft an anti-DH if DH is truly dominating. I love to fight against the meta with something out of meta. But I play EVERYTHING pretty much, popular stuff, meme-like stuff, and most of all janky weird stuff of my own concoction.

posted a message on Elemental Dragon Mage Deck - Amalgam Mage

Ya, its only just barely got enough dragons/elementals to function.

I haven't felt like taunts hold it back. You can power through one or two of druids big drops, but after that, you just run out of steam. You have to hit hard turn 6-8 and then you normally finish with Fireball over the taunts. The more I played it, the more I found Fireball is what gives the deck lethal before your opponent turns the board on you.

I don't track my games... basically, if Druid gets a great start, they steamroll you. If they don't, they get crushed. It was very hot-cold and rarely very close. This deck has the advantage in the mid-game, and they do in the late game.

I was running 60/40 but hunter started to get more popular and I got more into a 50/50 groove because this deck hates hunter. You can beat them, but usually, you don't. I was playing it up to rank 3 at the end of January, then around rank 8-6 this week. It did better for me last week.

Questing explorer would be reasonable to remove. In a few games, they end up mostly as dead cards. Dragoncasters are the most critical card in the deck really.

Zillax is always a good card, but a little healing/removal probably won't tip the scales for this deck. You either blow people out with big turns or you eventually lose.

I think two Elemental Allies works pretty well. It could get stuck in your hand, but as of yet, I've not had that happen. They are a sort of lubrication for the deck, keeping the card flow going nicely.

posted a message on The true skill in Hearthstone

Too many people are focused on if you win or loose. Yes, its important, but it hides the skill involved in playing the game.

You can loose and play like a pro, and you can loose while playing like a chump. These are not the same thing. The win or loss wil be the same, but how bad you were beat might not be.

Hearthstone is like a series of puzzles. Some are pretty easy to solve, some are pretty tricky to solve. Solving them well doesn't always mean you win becasue the random elements of the game can confound you. But what you do control is how well you react to what is happening at anygiven moment. That takes skill, it just doesn't always win you games.

So saying hearthstone takes no skill flies in the face of what we all do each time we play. What you really mean is that it is not a game where skill ensures victory, and that is true. But that is not at all the same as saying there is no skill in playing it.
