Keep in mind, that "play" is very loosely defined in the new reward system. Conceding during the mulligan stage or hero selection in battlegrounds counts as "play". If you don't like Duels, you need to go through class pick and deck creation twice, but those 5 games can probably be completed in about 5 minutes.

i hate that the ladders and bg reset so often. it feels like i never make progress since i don't grind for hours. don't understand the philosophy behind it.

It's not overpowered. It's good, but spending 4 mana on something that doesn't affect the board in HS sometimes isn't the best when you're getting your head kicked in by 1 and 2 drops.
It's worth pointing out that, back when Nourish cost 5, for years it was solely played for the card draw. It was only after they printed UI (and Overflow, now) that it's used for the ramp.

You can do those in Casual too. I just suffered through a double 3x Rogue played games daily in Casual with a terrible Thief Rogue deck.
This is my main gripe with the new Reward track, I can;t do my quests anymore in Tavern Brawl, which was my main way of doing quests. I love Brawl and it's been seriously devalued with this.
