Quote from BlizzardQuillboar have descended upon the Hearthstone Battlegrounds and it is quill or be quilled! On May 12, from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. PT, the Battlegrounds Brawl returns! 16 Hearthstone creators will be split into 4 teams—the Bristlebacks, the Razormanes, the Razorfens, and the Briarbacks—to compete for their share of a $100,000 USD prize pool! Tune in to find out who is bottom boar and who is top tusk.
How it Works
Scoring: Two games will be played simultaneously each round, with two members from each team in each game and seven total rounds of play. Points will be awarded at the end of each round, based on each individual competitor’s placement, and added to their team’s total point score.
- 1st place finish = 5 points awarded
- 2nd place finish = 4 points awarded
- 3rd place finish = 2 points awarded
- 4th place finish = 1 point awarded
Final placement and prizing will be determined by each team’s total point score after seven rounds. Each team’s total number of 1st place finishes will be the primary tiebreaker, if needed.
Where to Watch
Battlegrounds Brawl: Battle of the Boars will be broadcast live on the official Hearthstone Twitch and YouTube channels, with participants also streaming their own perspectives on their respective channels.

Playing at 12k aint that great eather , I reached that in my first season playing bg's this year. I don't care about male or female , I want to see good BG players. RDU is a male but not a great BG player , can Easily name 10 who are far better , also content wise. Viktor (SunbaconRelaxer) Is a good BG streamer who plays at 15k and higher , he's in this tournament but there are loads more like him.
Kripp is just in it because he's Kripp , not because he's good. What also bothers me is that someone like Lunalove and to a lesser extend Dog & RDU get picked who stream allot of constructed over people with far higher ratings that spend all there time streaming BG's.
The only thing we can argue about is that these people get picked cause they can promote BG's so more people like the game. But than why is Siimiiz in it? She plays around 11-12k , only had 50-150 viewers in general and is Thijs his girlfriend.
Again I dont care if they put in all female or male , black , white or asian , aslong as they give it to people who actually deserve it most.
Benice92 , Moussytv , Asmodai , Awedragon , Xixo to name a few are on the same level as Viktor who is also a great bg Streamer btw. They all deliver great quality content , they might not be as colorfull as a person compared to some of the people on this roster but there far better players who put in allot of time and effort and are very informative.
Sounds generalized to me. I've seen Slysssa, sunglitters and Nicholene play, and they are better than 99% of the dudes that played BG all time. If they are just here because of their gender it's sad, but we will see how they will perform. :)
Yeah well I dont see many construction ladies working below the sun in summer dont me weong, people complain about equility if fancy jobs but in the crappy ones no lady wants even to try it.
It's equality of outcome vs equality of opportunity and I'm not saying they've balanced the scales 50/50 outside of anything other than these are a list of popular and well known players, I don't follow the scene close enough or care enough to know about them individually.
But I will say that the change up from the previous line up is either because they accept that they specifically picked male participants because of a bias against female participants or they are actively trying to get less known streamers out there. If it's the latter then that's totally fine but you're always going to them have the male streamers who are struggling who will feel like they aren't getting an opportunity simply because they are men. If its the former then you're openly admitting to bigotry. If its neither then it's likely that they are pandering.
Then you get the issue of colour representation and you can keep playing this game, there aren't enough people of colour. Sure, you've got women in there now but why arent there an equal amount of Asian and other minorities? So on and so on.
This isn't a hearthstone issue, it's a much wider social issue so it's going to cause some friction somewhere. The problem with achieving equality of outcome is you are most likely going to discriminate against someone else in order to do it. It's an impossible game and one I'm glad I don't have to navigate on this sort of scale. You don't do anything, people are angry, you do something and different people are angry. It's fine for someone like Regis to step aside because he's very well set in terms of streaming and income but whoever you replace him with will be at the expense of someone else.
I don't think it's controversial to say they are specifically trying to up their female representation, that seems fairly clear to me. But it doesn't make all the problems go away because you then have people excluded for things outside of their control as well and seeing as there are more deserving streamers than spots, someone is probably going to feel aggrieved.
I'm a big fan of equal opportunity, not so much equality of outcome. If a person has done the right things to get an opportunity, they shouldn't be excluded because they are white or male or whatever. At the same time, you do need to foster an environment that allows all people a chance. If women aren't able to get to that position as easily then I understand the need to balance it out in some way. It's just difficult to do. The other difficulty is that having this conversation is really hard without each side shouting at each other. If everyone could hear out the concerns and talk it through, it may get more people on board but that means not dismissing anyone who doesn't necessarily agree, provided they are being respectful and aren't trolling or being abusive etc.
For the record I am NOT saying that these women don't deserve to be there. I'm simply saying that I understand why some people could have the perspective that it is representation for the sake of representation, given the goings on at the last event and that female representation is suddenly 50/50 from 80/20, I get why people can see it like they are being put there for political reasons rather than pure merit.
I personally feel chasing equality of outcome is a no win game and as I said, could easily see people accusing the line up of not having x or y represented enough. It can't realistically be achieved without discrimination of some sort and a struggling male streamer is mo less deserving of a spot simply because he's male, just as a female streamer shouldn't be excluded simply for being female either.
I've recruited in the past and ended up with 8 out of 10 jobs being offered to men. It had nothing to do with the fact that they were men. I've had other recruitment drives where more women were offered jobs. If you go with the most competent people, you likely aren't going to get equal representation across gender and race. So when it is completely equal, it's always easy to assume it's for political reasons.
Frankly, I agree with most of what you say here - I'm not a fan of diversity quotas. I aggressively don't give a shit about the identity of the people I watch and get annoyed at people going around asking why there's not more black women in the tournament or whatever. I'm fine with every participant being a white dude, I'm fine with every participant being a non-white non-dude, I don't think either fact would register in my brain until someone pointed it out to me. I was irritated at Blizzard pushing the gender representation angle when Kripp and Regis left the Innvitational and were replaced by Luna and Avelline, because that's not the thing that matters about the players that replaced them.
One thing I like less than forced diversity though is discrimination - merit and nothing else should be key to these types of decisions - and the idea that women are only in this tournament because of some sort of gender quota reeks of thinking women aren't able to get results comparable to men's. This is a wrong-headed concept that I disagree with immensely and find repugnant.
Now, I'll fully admit: my original reply was dumb, because there actually is evidence to suggest Blizzard may be fudging the numbers to include more female streamers in their events given the thing with the Innvitational. To be honest, it was early in the morning, I hadn't had my coffee, I was cranky, and I completely forgot about the Innvitational thing, so I kneejerked into the least charitable possible interpretation. I still disagree that this is a result that's impossible without some sort of quota, and comparing including female players to putting kittens in the tournament is something I dislike a lot, it's weird and infantilizing, but that's not the comment I wrote.
Hopefully you don't always hear sjow cleaning his nose every 30 seconds.
Why are Kripp , Lunalove , Simiizz , RDU in this they are all shit. Should have picked Moussytv , Benice , Awedragon , Tyler , Asmodai , Xixo ;) Lots of dumpster rank players on this lineup. Heck ive been playing for 1 season and i'm at the same level as them already. Theres allot of better players than some of these.
My man Kripp is so MANLY they needed 3 girls to balance his manly manhood!
I find it sexist, mate.
cause girls got there just for their gender.
It's sexist and abusive even to these girls, isn't it?
sad crazy world...
Next events are gonna be 4 kittens in each team... i mean, they are cute and everybode loves them
who cares if they don't know how to play HS
Gonna need a citation for "they're here just for being girls", chief.
why the f*ck are there people like simiz, instead of Asmo?
No idea, she has a tiny Twitch presence. Maybe Thijs called in a favour? Streamers like Kripp and Thijs make Blizzard millions so I guess they have influence?
I know a lot of ppl don't want to see what i'm gonna write, but isn't it because of her gender? There was a huge shitstorm recently, that there's less women than men in hs' events and that's all.
So many unknown..
It's cool that they tried to diversify on the participant right now, and everyone makes sense, they're all good BGs players, but I would also like if they diversified a little bit with the hosts/caster. It's kinda tiring to always see/hear Frodan and Sottle and Lorinda and Raven and Jia over and over.
Nice gender equality in all teams 2 dudes and 2 ladyas per team. Finally!
lol, I see what you did there
I see what you did there xD
Lamest setup ever...
I read the title and thought this was going to be a battlegrounds tavern-brawl
