In case you haven’t noticed, over the last year especially, there have been quite a few digital CCGs to hit the scene, most likely attempting to ride Hearthstone’s success. Which is fine… that’s a side topic. I wanna argue that there is no difference in importance between free to play and paying customers, the game needs both and maybe more so free to play players. I will also note that times have changed fast and this might not have even been the case even 2 years ago (when Hearthstone was in beta).
CCGs need to make money to survive and continue, but it also cannot keep players happy without a decent size player base – which is what makes f2p players very important. Let’s make a quick example of Faeria (but this applies to all f2p CCGs like Duelyst, ESL, Eternal etc.).
Faeria has a f2p model like Hearthstone and the option to buy cards of course. Let’s imagine Faeria gets 200,000 f2p players who do not pay a cent – but play the game 3-4 hours a day. Long term this would probably be better than getting 20,000 paying customers because of the talk about the game it would generate, activity on the forums, and increase the speed in which paying customers could find matches; which is an issue in CCGs with low player bases.
Also, let’s face facts, paying customers buy cards to increase win rate, and if they don’t have f2p players to outclass once in a while, they won’t feel as good about making more purchases to stay ahead of the curve. This is another underrated fact about why f2p is important. If you spend $100 on expansion packs only to hit a 50% win rate because every other player has done the same and has the same cards, it doesn’t feel like the money was well spent. But if you can get that 1 out of 5 matches off the budget deck because you outclass them, you feel like those packs you spent money on was more worth it. Plus, that’s totally fair economy wise for the game. The p2p says “Okay cool, the cards I bought won me that game,” and the f2p says “Meh, that guy outclassed me, but hey, I’m free to play and my win rate is okay anyway considering that,” and… the game lives on.
My point is, don’t feel like you have to buy, you as a f2p are just as important as paying customers. Also, think twice about taking an elite attitude if you spend money. Without f2p players, the game you spend money on will decline, waiting time for matches will increase, and the money will have been for nil. As for f2p players, you need whales and p2w players or you would have no game to play for free.
PS : In case you are curious, I cannot say I am f2p, I buy promotional deals with good value (like starter bundles) and Adventure type sets I don’t wanna waste in game gold on like League of Explorers or what not. I do however play some games 100% free though like Eternal and Faeria.

No... but this thread is the equivalent of panicking because someone is leading the presidency with only 25% of the total votes in. Let's please be patience before all of the "my class got nothing" threads come out or "I'm not pre-ordering this crap..." etc.

When Oil rouge was a thing back when Blade Flurry was a thing (RIP Blade Flurry) it was the most fun I've had playing the game.
I just wanted to touch up really quick on Blade flurry. How can you destroy one of the only AOE cards for one class so much? I agree the card was really good but to just kill a card like that is stupid? Think about other AOE cards for other classes. Consecration; 4 mana deals two to everything. Holy Nova; 5 mana 2 damage to everything. lighting storm 5 mana 2-3 damage to every thing. Blade flurry you have to pay two mana to hero power and then Blade Flurry? That's 6 mana for dealing one damage to everything. Let’s say you Deadly poison then blade flurry that's 7 mana for 3 damage to other side of the board and you need two cards in order for this to go off. It’s just not fair. Rouge has gotten so many stupid cards and barley gets a single good card out of new sets, adventures. It relies so much on its class cards and cards from the basic set its annoying. When was the last time you saw a competitive rouge deck that didn't play two Backstab, two Deadly Posion two Eviscerate, two Sap, two SI:7 agent, two Prepeperation, two Fan of knives? Thats nearly half of almost all rouge decks being the exact same. These cards are good but there is nothing to replace them with. Same cards for over two years. So stop wasting our time and get back to the core of the class. Decent combo's and a class that actually requires thought and skill. If you want to make a simple play and pass class like shamen do that, but don't make a sexy bitch like Valeera suffer :)
When you talk about RNG it can either be good random or bad random. RGN for damage like Flamewaker or knife juggler is fine because you're pushing damage to the other side of the board. If you play minions or spells damage is being dealt. When it comes to RNG with cards that's another story. An example is Lock and Load. This card never took off because it would shit out random cards for hunter and most of the hunter cards sucked ass like cobra strike or misdirection. So when rouge comes along and is like "hey lets jump on the HUGE RNG train that is now Hearthstone!!!" (cabalist tomb, yogg, ect) I say stop. I do believe we need to draw the line somewhere. The game needs to get away from random bullshit (purify) and get back to making the game about skill. Turns that require though and not just playing over powered crap like 4 mana for a 7/7. Stop taking the easy way out and start putting more thought into the cards that you create.

3 expansion a year is a mistake for a design team this lacking in fresh ideas. Its just a cash grab, and with the constant nerfing, it's not worth playing unless you go all in and pay.
