Guys, Team 5 isn't always just going to HoF something just because it has a place in most or all of one class' deck types, otherwise there would be justification to remove almost every basic and classic class card that doesn't outright suck.

    [...]

I don't feel that it is healthy or smart design practice to get rid of staples in order to justify why a card should be added to the game that will only be a part of standard temporarily and then will need replacing with a similar type of minion/spell later on once the temporary cards rotates to wild).

You are right. It is neither smart nor healthy. But Team 5 seems to disagree. They target cards specifically because they are staples and they apparently don't mind replacing them afterwards, sometimes contradicting their own statements. Just look at what I wrote above about AoL and UI.
Here is another excerpt from the same Interview:
"When we changed Keeper of the Grove and Ancient of Lore, the goal was for Druids to have more interesting decisions to make when deckbuilding rather than a large group of cards to be automatically included. Even though those cards changed, there are still some other offenders of this such as Innervate or Swipe…and Wild Growth to a lesser degree. Having some powerful cards that help define what makes a class different can be good, but those cards in particular have spawned a number of internal conversations where we have been weighing the upside and downside to having each as a part of Druid for Hearthstone eternity."
He worries about Swipe, thinking it's unhealthy to have it as a staple. Do you want to know why it's a staple and oftentimes an auto-include? Because any AoE-spell for board control is important, especially in any slower deck (which Druid was originally intended to play) and there is zero, none, not a SINGLE alternative EVER released for Swipe in almost 4 years. The only existing alternative is the classic Starfall... which was nerfed many years ago and is helplessly outdated by modern standards, just as Holy Nova. But his issue is, that Swipe sees too much play and would always be in Standard. That is the ONLY reason.
And if the designers think that evergreen staples are bad for Standard, it is no surprise that many here suspect that more evergreen staples would get thrown out of the format one way or another for just the same reason.
Spot on. The people making these Hof/nerf decisions are either liars or incompetent fools. They should have rotated classic, redesigned basic, and proceeded with an annual core set if they wanted to introduce set rotation, but instead they made a bunch of big promises about classic being evergreen and have done nothing but try and backtrack ever since.

There are no problematic basic ir classic cards remaining therefore no justification to Hof anything.

The mark of a badly designed card is one that is broken at a certain Mana cost, and total shit if it costs (1) more.

They should have just done this a year ago. It would have avoided so many unnecessary nerfs and card designs. Ridiculous.

This would be the final nail in the coffin for so many players.

The past Hof rotations did nothing to fix the game. They should carefully consider just throwing more cards out of standard after assuring the playerbase that classic/basic would be evergreen.

Classes like shaman, priest and warlock that are so dependent on expansions will always be feast or famine. They can't just give Superior cards to these classes every expansion to make up for bad evergreen tools, so they will always either be dominating or totally unplayable.

Blizzard seems to be thinking that nerfing all the good evergreens will fix this, but it's just going to create more classes that have no real identity and whose success relies on getting some broken gimmick every expansion
