Meta defining for sure, but in a way I think is sort of terrible for the game. It defines the meta by effectively being a one-card counter to a few specific strategies. Trying for Inner Fire shennanigens? Too bad, you queued into the wrong deck. Leeroy Miracle? Nope, Cold Bloods don't exist anymore. Leeroy, Power Overwhelming, Faceless combo? Nope, out of the Hall of Fame and into the fire with you. Jade Druid is actually a lot less damaged by this, as it doesn't leave them completely bereft of options even if it takes away their ability to go infinite (which was always more an Auctioneer problem than an Idol problem in my book).

The card just feels like the most hamfisted and crude nerf to a card type that, admittedly, has sometimes felt a bit out of balance, but the fact that it can completely invalidate whole strategies on it's own feels awful, especially if you're in the game for wacky combos and the like. No one will feel anything but completely disheartened when they're on the receiving end of this, because there's literally nothing you can do other than not play the deck you're playing, and that doesn't feel like the sort of design I think benefits Hearthstone as a whole. I just don't think tech cards should have such a capacity to completely ruin another player's gameplan (I'm not against some level of interference, but this is a step too far I feel). A good tech card in my book can still be reasonably overcome even when it slams the decks most vulnerable to it, granting an advantage in it's use but not an absolute one. I doubt that this holds true for the Geist.

TL;DR, this is no clever, artful tech, no Loatheb. I think I hate it.

     This. Nuff said.
@topic - Usually tech cards are meant to counter a specific range and, most importantly, number of cards. Say BGH for a single 7+ ATK minion or Crab for a single Murloc. No way they should be capable of crippling entire decks (The Last Kaleidosaur? Any combo priest or rogue?) And no, please don't come up with meta-relevance or a comparable excuse. This is just lazy design and anyone who's going to be affected by this card to such an extent even once will inevitably change his mind. It's like printing a sign saying "Oh, your deck follows THAT strategy? Too bad,"
But why is it a bad thing that one card can counter a combo like Leeroy, Power Overwhelming, Faceless? Is it good game design where a player can just stall for most of the game, and then do 20 damage to the opponent's face in one turn? Is that fun, interactive gameplay?
Think of the positive impact it could have on the meta. Players will still try to have high damage combos in their deck, but they should have other win conditions as well. It might mean we see more hybrid decks.

Its your turn. You are playing against a rogue with 4 completely random cards he received throughout the game from card effects. Both of you have a modest board. You want to make the best play possible to counter the rogue. What do you predict the rogue will play?

    Answer: ???

Answer: Stop trying to counter the rogue. Mimic decks like that are unpredictable, but they're also inconsistent. Focus on making the most of the synergy in your deck, making good trades on the board and you have a good chance of pulling ahead. Have you played a Rogue deck like that? They're one of my favorite because I get a lot of weird combos, but it can easily fall flat.

I've seen some cool stuff for Valeera on Hearthcards, this one's good, though the hero power doesn't really fit Rogue.

Looks underpowered compared to the other new HPs. You're best weapon from that would probably be an Assassin's Blade, which means your HP would be useless for the next 3 turns. Each class needs a HP that can have a significant impact every turn.

from what I have seen the legendary of a class and the hero card have different goals

The mage legendary summons two 0/1's, which are easy targets for her new HP.

People keep saying Discolock will never work, which only makes me want to see Blizzard make it work even more. So here's a thought I just had:

    6 mana, 5 Armor

Battlecry: Destroy all minions, Discard a card

Hero Power: Choose a card in your hand to discard and add two discarded cards to your hand.

The Battlecry resets the board to let them catch up, the HP will make it easier to complete the quest and it gives them an infinite source of cards to keep up with other card generators. It also adds some fun strategic value. Should you play that powerful card now, or choose to discard it so it's added to your infinite pool of cards? Could this be a mechanic that make discard playable?

posted a message on New Paladin Card Revealed: Righteous Defender

Even if it is power creep, it's still harmless. The card is common, which is basically free. Between the double quest gold and free packs they're giving out, most players should be able to open at least 35 packs when the expansion launches, plus more when they beat adventure wings. That's all without paying a cent of real money. So if the vast majority of players can get two copies of this card for free, where is the problem?

There's basically two types of players: Those who look for refined, consistent decks to climb the ladder and those who make decks for crazy combos and fun games. This card sucks for the former, but is amazing for the latter.

What if a Paladin summons one with a Silvermoon Portal? Will this give his 1/1's freeze?

Have you played Destiny? It's basically an MMORPG/FPS and it's primarily designed as a console game.

posted a message on Thoughts on the expansion marketing campaign (other than card reveals)?

It was really awkward to see no card reveals for about two weeks after the first reveal. They said hype for other expansions slowed down because they revealed too many cards early. I can understand that, but I think they overcompensated. Brode's AMA was the 14th and he said there would be more reveals on the 24th. Such a long gap made me lose interest in any Hearthstone news until the 24th. I think it would have been more effective if they alternated between a video/comic and a few card reveals.

What if the new Paladin hero power is 'Give a minion Divine Shield.' Would that make this card good?

IMO, this card looks bad unless something specifically is printed that makes this particular card work differently.

That's what I'm saying. Shaman's new weapon kills frozen enemies and the Shaman freeze minion just got revealed. Of course Blizzard will make class cards that support other class cards. I bet the Warlock DK hero power will be something like  'Add a discarded card to your hand.' Would that make this card playable, or even good?
I don't see what's fun or entertaining about crying 'This card sucks' when we know so little about the expansion. Wouldn't it be more entertaining to speculate about how card might work with other cards in a new set? We'll still be wrong about most of the speculation, but wouldn't that be a much better discussion?

How is having Lifesteal 'no effect'? More healing for Warlock means they can use their hero power more aggressively without risking opening themselves to an early lethal. Darkshire Councilman has a similar effect of building attack and I saw people being pessimistic about it when it was first revealed. It turned out to be quite useful, especially when paired with cards like Possessed Villager. What's the point of rushing to judgment before we've seen a whole set?

Plus, if the Warlock DK does something like adding a discarded card back to your hand, you could potentially be able to play multiple copies of this in one game.
