I'm a bit dumbfounded at the reveal rationale. They're trying to get people excited about a bunch of new mechanics, then right at the end of the hype cycle, "hey, now look at how you're going to get punished for doing everything we just showed you".
If copies of Shudderwock end up back in your hand, their mana cost can't be reduced, it's set to 9. Card still has plenty of uses, but you don't get wins via a 5 minute slow death animation.
