Alright, my turn now. I have a second iteration of Chi Transmuter, as well as a new card inspired by @ChildOfTheAtom12's Clockwork Scout.

Okay, so this version of Chi Transmuter features the wording @Kovachut suggested me. I also gave it +1 Attack, because a 3/5 stuck me as too weak (every 3/5 and even 3/6 in the game have effects that seem stronger, IMO).

Then, I want to point out two things about Tartarus Enslaver:

    • Gameplay wise: The basic mechanic is very similar to targeted Discard. However, it can be used to dilute your opponent's deck a la Weasel Tunneler in combination with a cheap minion. Flame Elemental from a Fire Fly would be a premium target.
    • About the name: I was about to call him Slave Trader, which matches his effect better, but I thought Tartarus Enslaver was fancier, even though the Tartarus doens't exist in WoW as far as I know. Let me know which name  you prefer.

I personally would never recommend using the word "Slave" in a name, especially "Slave Trader". There are some darker concepts (like slavery) that just don't need to be brought up in a friendly card game. I still prefer Chi Transmuter, anyway.

(Edit: Apologies for my triple post...)

Sorry for that. I forgot this word has darker implications in the U.S. than in my country.

Here in Spain it's obviously remembered as a horrible episode of human history, but it wouldn't be politically incorrect to put it in a game like Hearthstone. It could be comparable with, let's say, Inquisition (which is already referenced in Vilefin Inquisitor).

Again, sorry. I hope I didn't offend anyone.

I'd go for a name like "Tartarus Banisher" - i.e. It 'banishes' your minion from your hand into the opponent's deck. Enforcer could work too, in that it's removing the minion from your hand to enforce some kind of rule or edict.

Mage with the Hunter hero power has proven pretty good for me. It's not as good later on when you face better decks and players, but the insane rush and burst potential means it's you're almost guaranteed to get quite a few wins.

"Every choice in life can be seen as branches, and antlers are just weird, bony branches."

Note: It targets the left/right-most beast , so if you have 8 spells then draw 2 beasts, the 9th and 10th cards will be the targets. If you only have one beast in your hand, it will automatically give it +3 health, and simply won't activate if you have no beasts in hand. If you have 3 or more beasts in hand, only first or last ones will get the buff.

Honestly I think this is fine. Maybe changing it to a 2 mana 1/4 could help it maintain its current power level without making it such an insane turn 1 play, particularly with the coin. If there's a need for mages to have a new 1-cost tempo minion, they can add it in the next expansion. It's better for the game if they keep the base power for cards low, then increase the power by means of new cards or card changes in the future.

"There has only ever been, only ever will be... one Azshara. Accept no imitations."

    Card concept, lore, and design:
Azshara is the queen of the Naga in Warcraft lore. She's able to influence people to serve her, drawing a Naga to her side whenever she casts a spell. Her Sceptre, Sharas'dal, enhanced her powers, which is why it buffs her minions. While usable in a normal deck, these effects encourage you to build a 'spell-only' deck. In tandem, using the hero power to summon minions, and augmenting it with Sharas'dal's passive effect could prove quite powerful.

    Clarification and notes:
Azshara's 'Starts in your hand' effect works identically to Quests, so it's always in your opening hand. When casting a spell, the buff is applied BEFORE, and the Naga is summoned AFTER. This means the Naga has 1/1 stats, and will only be buffed by subsequent spell casts. Sharas'dal's 'Permanent' effect works like permanent minions ( Nether Portal ), in that it can't attack or be destroyed. Think of it as a second passive hero power. The Naga Token can be seen below:

I was actually planning a similar theme to this would I have won a contest.

My card idea involves having no weapons in your deck ("if you have no weapons in your deck, get effect") (don't want to say effect just yet). Would that qualify, or is that not "build-around" enough?

(also it's a warrior-only card, so no you couldn't cheese it in the likes of mage or priest)

People aren't giving you an answer because we don't know  (I think it would qualify, but I honestly can't say for sure). PM one of the fan creation mods, like the discussion rules suggest, instead of cluttering up the thread.

Just wondering, would it be possible for the winner of the Spelling Bee in S4 to be changed to Azshara? Elysie was my old username, and I'd like to link to the post in my flair. Can't see myself changing my username after nabbing Azshara.

    Thanks. (https://www.hearthpwn.com/card-design-competition/4298-season-4-winners-gallery)

I like the Azshara design, but I think a hero card that can be put into play at the start of game shouldn't have any armor associated with it - the point of the armor is to give you the longevity to you need to get value out of a play which is typically very bad tempo in the middle or late game.

The weapon should probably read "Immune. Whenever you cast a spell, give your minions +1/+1" to be consistent with the way other cards are worded.

Ultimately, though, I think Azshara is too powerful. The start of game aspect means you have something akin to a jade idol that you don't need to draw into, and that's very dangerous. You might be able to fix this by making her start of game effect something like "If your deck contains no minions, Azshara is in your starting mulligan." That seems more fair to me, as it forces you to play more control tools rather than just a bunch of cheap spells for massive tempo.

I've gone with this for now, the "Starts in your hand" line follows the wording of the tooltip for Quest spells (though this one would be the second card in your mulligan). It's a little more useful in non-spell-only decks now, but less powerful as a whole as it requires 4 turns of wind-up. I've changed the weapon's wording from 'when' to 'whenever', but I've kept the permanent tag, as immune doesn't prevent destroy effects. In addition, it's in line with the Nether Portal card, and implies that the weapon can't be given any buffs / used to attack. Thanks for the feedback, I think this is good for now.

    Card concept, lore, and design:
This card is based on the character of Azshara, queen of the Naga. She's known to be able to cause a great many people to fall under her influence and serve her, hence her passive hero power - whenever she casts a spell, a Naga warrior is drawn to her side. Her Sceptre, Sharas'dal, was used by Azshara to enhance her powers and longevity, which is why it has the effect of buffing her minions. I considered a healing effect, but felt it was too weak.

    In regards to the competition:
I know it's a bit typical to go for a hero card to give yourself more leeway with the design, but I loved the idea of a spell only deck that used a passive effects to summon minions instead. If you were to play this in a normal deck, it'd only grant you the hero power, which would be sub-optimal at best, meaning you're almost required to build your deck around it in order to get value out of it. That said, it's still 'usable' outside of a spell only deck.

A few things to note here:
The +1/+1 is applied BEFORE the spell, and the 1/1 is summoned AFTER the spell. This means the Naga will have 1/1 stats, and only be buffed by subsequent spell casts. The 1/1 Naga is just a token with no effects or tags, as seen in the spoiler below. In addition, the 'permanent' aspect of the weapon works similarly to permanent minions (i.e. Nether Portal), in that it can't attack or be destroyed. Think of it as a second passive hero power.

Anyways, let me know what you think! I quite like the concept, but I'm really unsure as to how powerful it'd be.

Oof, I forgot to submit my card before the deadline. I voted for the Bear Hands card because it gave me a good laugh, but kudos to Tinderling and Deja-Moo on the clever concepts. Looking forward to see the winner, and what the next contest is.

Edit: Just noticed the stats of Pi-Rat. Welp, time to change my vote.

Yes, done! No one had that nickname, I find that quite weird. Lucky for you though :)

You have shown yourself worthy of my pride!

    Just kidding, thank you! :3

I'm pretty happy with the card's effect, just wondering if the stats are okay (e.g. if it should be a 3 mana 3/3).

"What do you call an Naga vagabond? Lonely, that's what."

What with the recent Azshara Cinematic, I just had to do a Naga pun. Based on the idea of being a vagrant who jumps at the opportunity to get ahead of the competition, this minion is underwhelming at first glace. However, given the right circumstances, it can easily become a strong tempo play and act as much needed board presence. For example, a turn 3 Lightning Storm leaves you with only 2 mana crystals to use on turn 4, but the Nagabond's ability allows you to play it for 2 mana, effectively negating the Overload's drawback.
