We all know the existence of secret paladin for a month or so now and its been recognized widely as a tier 1 to 2 deck.
Its pushes hard, punishes for secrets misplay etc etc.
But personally, I feel that midrange secret paladin, with perfect tempo punishes a deck more than aggro secret paladin. It is able to build its own board up, rather equal to aggro secret paladin and is able to punish silences and removals with big minions such as dr boom and triton,
The question is: How hard is it to deal with midrange secret paladin with perfect tempo?
Is is manageable with your own "perfect tempo" and avoiding misplays or it is near insane levels of defeating even with that? I would like to hear your thoughts about the subject matter if you may.
P.S. talk about classes in general, not just a specific archtype like dragon priest or control warrior that have a decent winrate against secret paladin.
Even with perfect tempo, I think MC Paladin still should win the majority of the time. I believe that is the whole point of the deck, it dominates any other thoughtless tempo mid go fast deck, but it will lose to any real control deck, and the aggro matchup really just depends on if aggro draws the cards it needs like it always has been for aggro.
The whole point is to try to give incentive to play more control, and kill the tempo. Blizz realizes it is a problem and are trying to change it. If control becomes the dominate deck type on ladder, MC Paladin sucks, and will naturally just go away cause control decks destroy MC Palaidn.
This ain't no Patron Warrior, MC Paladin has real counters. It's just no one wants to play control, or atleast are more hesitant than they were to jump on the tempo train.
Secret paladin with perfect tempo will always be very painful because its a combo deck. In a combo deck you dilute your deck with sub-optimal combo pieces - 1 mana secrets in this case and deliver over the odds value when the combo is executed. It's weakness is if you draw the wrong combo pieces you have a horrible game. Restricting your question to perfect tempo draws invalidates the point of combo builds.
So to answer your question, a perfect tempo secret paladin is and should be a complete nightmare.
ps. I don't actually have any mysterious challengers and am not defending the deck - just pointing out combo decks are an archetype and like miracle rogue and patron warrior generate hate if they're too consistent. I don't like the deck, but can't figure out exactly what bugs me. Maybe its just paladin that has such a strong aggro engine to stick the one card and weak-ass secret friends in. If challenger drew 3 secrets he'd still be a monster.
