. Map control and positioning is much more important, than in every other Moba, while your Micromanagement is nearly irelevant. I
Hmm, I'd dismissed this game because I hate the micromanagement of DotA and LoL - but now it seems I might reconsider!
[EDIT] Just read that there's no last-hit mechanic either. This is sounding better and better. :)
You will hear a lot of trash talk about this game from elitez0rs d00ds, and they are right about their criticisms. But they come from a perspective of the level of competitive gaming that is just plain not the focus of this game. Blizzard has been smart about this, same as with Hearthstone.
They made a game that is much more casual friendly, while still having enough depth to satisfy a lot of hardcore gamers. They did this on purpose, as it would be silly to try to take on the well established LoL and try to displace it as the de facto MOBA. instead, they are opting to make a game that emcompasses their branding while making it more casual friendly, team oriented and map-based objectives, akin to battlegrounds in WoW. Seriously, this was a smart move and it will work. But it isn't LoL and never will be. It you want your specific play to matter to the extreme, play LoL, this game won't do it for you.
That being said, I agree the real-money prices are freakin' insane! That being said, I got into the beta 5 days ago without buying. And I only applied for beta like a month ago. And honestly, I have already gathered 8k gold from quests and getting free-cycling heroes to level 5 and done it playing casually. The progression feels similar to Hearthstone. If you work steadily, doing daily quests and raising your free weekly heroes, you gather enough gold to purchase a "base set." But in no way does dropping 20, even 40 dollars complete your collection, or even close. Heck, in Hearthstone that doesn't even guarantee a legendary...lol
I like it a lot. The team exp and no last-hitting is refreshing (for me, at least).
The prices aren't that bad; accounts were wiped a few months ago and I have 13 heroes (out of 34 currently) plus a couple from the free rotation(7 heroes are free each week) without spending any money. It's a great game to hop onto Skype with a couple friends and have a fun game night.
I'm also a Blizzard fanboy, so playing Zeratul and Illidan and stuff really appeals to me.
I enjoy playing Heroes of the Storm most of the time. It's probably too early to complain, but the matchmaking kind of sucks in my opinion. New players are getting in, and I keep getting matched with very low level players which ruins my experience. Also, I have a potato so I lag every single team fight. However, I think other MOBAs are better, like League of Legends and SMITE. Heroes of the Storm is just too competitive.
To be fair, some characters only have 1 viable build, but most have 2 or 3 that focus on different skills or auto-attack vs ability power vs sustain builds and such.
Thats why love Valla, because you can build her based on Auto-Attacks, Multishot and Hungering Arrow(less common, but works), her 2 ultimates are good, so in the future i can see that every hero will have multiple builds and balanced ones, i trust Blizzard team, they are good.
The ones that really stand out as only having one build are mostly supports. They heal; that's it. A few specialists have a couple talents that can go either way but play the same regardless (Hammer, Nazeebo, Zagara).
I have played dota, HoN, LoL and dota2 and have recently started playing HotS.
My opinion, HotS if amazing and by far the best of all the mobas I have played thus far. It has much more action per minute and basicly no farming for items which makes it way more fun imo. It is very much based on team play which can be bad if you are not playing with a team but if you are with a few friends then it gets extremely fun.
Someone else said that it would take 2 years to get 10 heroes to play ranked and that is an outright lie. I bought the game so I started with 3 heroes and 2k gold, but it took me less than a month to get 11 heroes. You get 500 gold every time you level a hero to level 5 which takes about 4-5 games and this is what will get your hero collection started as you can level up the free-to-play heroes of the week. There are also daily quests which also contributes.
I think hots is worth to play if you are MOBA fan, this game is balanced to play.
This game has anti-snowball mechanics which means you the comeback can possibly happen, you always have a chance as long as your core isn't destroyed. The time for each game is decent (10-30 mins).
Yeah its an ok game. Worth investing some time and pretty balanced as it is based on working as a team for objectives and not just who is the most fed. Comebacks can happen easily as said above and no items means no need to chose what to buy to counter your opponent or to get OP.
I was on the fence at first but I have logged some solid hours now and I honestly think it is one of the better options. I genuinely didn't want to like it and I do, so that speaks volumes. I think the curve between easy/medium heroes and more advanced ones is a bit too steep but some people love the challenge so that's cool. The Easy heroes aren't garbage so it is pretty accessible to anyone that puts in a small bit of effort. PUGS are hit or miss and mostly miss, but if you are skilled and play an assassin you can almost single-handedly carry a team at times. My only critique/complaint is when things get too busy in one spot it is almost impossible to fully function and sometimes there is slowdown which makes it impossible.
Not trying to steal the thread but ive wanted to try it out as well so its relevant. The gameplay videos look an awful lot like watered down starcraft. can anyone confirm this? or explain what makes HotS unique?

Well, while Heroes of the Storm is a MOBA and Starcraft is a strategy game... no.
I was tired of playing DotA, League of Legends and MOBAs in general, but HotS is way more casual and enjoyable than the other ones.

So HotS isnt a strategy game? Just a casual brawl game? That just sounds awful. Whats the point?
its not that great out of games i play right now i would say HS>League>Dota>Heroes. it is fun but idk i got tired of it after a week. HS im still not tired of so....i would just try it out
The correct answer to his question would've been "no i am not aware of that" because that might be the worst description of the MOBA genre i have ever seen.
i downloaded HotS last night to see what the deal was. i played my first match this morning and judging from my first couple matches my description is on point. diablo is a good game so dont take it the wrong way. i just feel like that genre isnt for me.
In Hearthstone there are three main resources, tempo, hand power, and health. Surprisingly, it doesn't differ all that much in HotS (obviously hand power is different, changed into team level). However, in Hearthstone, you have almost unlimited (90 seconds is more than enough) time to choose your play, but in HotS you have to take the time you take planning into account. Certain characters are good at one of these, or are just plain weird (like how Warlock in HS can turn health into hand power, or how Abathur in HotS (until they patch/patched it) can destroy the enemy's health/core without regard to tempo). The main differences are that your team shares your resources, and that in lategame, tempo doesn't matter much at all. I can backdoor your core when it has low health while you do a raid on my fort which will surely kill my core, and not really care. Also, unlocking Heroes is a pain in the ass. You're better off figuring out how to play assassin, warrior, and support instead of each character individually. One last thing, a deck in Hearthstone that is built to just maintain tempo and win with no contingency (sound like the first deck you made?) can't really perform well consistently. You need a game plan, and a lot of HotS and HS characters provide one. However, the easiest to play are also the ones that fit the 'maintain tempo and win' plan (this is why Raynor and midrange Shaman aren't the best).
TL;DR: HotS is surprisingly similar to Hearthstone, but there are a few things you need to understand before you can really start winning matches. The biggest mistake you can make is to try to win with a simple character, as he doesn't have the tools to save himself if things go wrong.

is HotS just Starcraft with a lower skill level?
