Out of curiosity, I was wondering what people would prefer to see Blizzard do: buffing old, unusable cards; or continue to come out with new card sets, often containing brand new, unusable cards. Blizzard says that they want to do what players ask for, so if enough of us ask for buffs to old cards, maybe it will actually happen.
Blizzard has been clear on the fact that they don't want to change cards unless they are absolutely game breaking. They rather try to "fix" them by adding new cards that make them work, similar to how Piloted Shredder means most of the unplayable 2-drops come to light every now and then, or how Hobgoblin encourages playing cards that normally suck. Granted, not every attempt is succesful but still.
Besides, there will always be cards that will phase out. As you increase the power level of some cards, others will naturally fall behind. It's hard to balance a game so that each card is equally balanced, especially when you are regularly adding new content.
They won't cave on this point, of this I am certain.
I believe you need to be more specific as to what you consider "older cards". Ar you talking the Basic & Classic sets? The cards from the Naxx Adventure?
Assuming you mean the Basic/Classic sets I personally don't see the need or why Blizzard would invest time, effort or money into it. Those cards are the roots of the game. I agree that there are far too many DEAD cards but with each expansion and adventure these is a chance that those dead cards will find new life with an interesting new combo(s).
I mean how many Paladin decks ran more than 4 secrets before Mysterious Challenger was introduced?
The solution is not for Blizzard to buff the old/dead cards, if anything Blizzard should continue to create cards that make the old/dead cards usefull.
They dont need to buff cards, they need to nerf them. There is a reason there are a lot of unusable cards, because there are couple that are too op to not to play them in the decks.
I think we are talking about Magma Rager kind of cards. And I think that it was stupid releasing a card equally boring but with +1 health. Why not buff the original instead? I think that new cards should bring freshness to the game and not "Oh, it's the same card but with a different number on it".
There will always be unusable cards in a card game. Even if current unusable cards are buffed, other cards will be deemed unusable.
Yes, each card can never be exactly as powerful, but how big the difference of power levels of the best and the worst card in the game is can be changed.
I was thinking about this because I was watching Noxious' "Balance Pass" yesterday, where he proposed changes for a number of worthless cards that would make them viable. I would love to see Kidnapper actually be usable, or Bestial Wrath, and I don't see what manner of new cards would enable them. I wouldn't mind so much them getting ignored for new cards, since that's really all I expect anyway, but every time I see a new useless card printed, like Crowd Favorite, I can't help but think it would have been better just to buff an old "Savagery" Tier card instead.
I think the sad thing is that there are some super interesting cards that bring something exciting/new to the table, but need to be buffed to be usable.

Also, this is a collectible card game. Don't count on the old cards to be buffed instead of new cards coming out. That is not how this works.
