What should I actually be spending my gold on? buying packs or arena only? If i'm not very good in arena right now, should I just save 50 and use it towards another pack? Best key ive gotten after about 5-6 arena plays is journeymen. I have the worst luck with my drafts it seems.
For me as long as you get at least 2-3 wins on average, you'll be at about even gains as if you had just spent the gold on a pack. The more you play arena, the better idea you get at what are good card picks and what aren't, you'll start to get 4-5 wins consistently, which is where arena becomes better than buying packs. Stick it out and try and improve (unless you hate arena, if you don't like it don't play it), if you'd like help I'd recommend looking at http://arenavalue.com/, it'll help give you a guide on what choices will be good ideas, though don't take it as the final say.
I use 100% of my gold for Arena. Granted, I have all the cards I want, so no need for packs. But I think even if that weren't the case, I'd still spend gold on Arena. It's the one area in which you know you're on an equal footing with every other player, and although you could get pretty bad luck, it's still fun to play. Even if you end up net a little less gold, I think the entertainment's worth it. (edit) - as noted by other posters, constructed *is* rather repetitive; Arena not so much. (/edit)
Besides, consider the situation. If you want to make a profit from Arena, now's a good time, while other players are still joining and learning. Six months from now, I'm sure people won't be pulling 9-win streaks so easily, let alone 12-win streaks, as competition in general should improve. If you want to be good at Arena, you have to practice and play Arena, and now's the time, right?
That said - I don't play Arena much. I'm six days into the game, have all the cards I want, and am aiming for constructed play. That means mostly I'm reading articles; I've been directed to watch some streams, and I'm getting in constructed games for valuable experience. It's actually easier to understand Constructed for various reasons, which is part of the reason I'm starting there. But I'm sure in a month or two, I'll be doing Arena all the time.

If you find my posts to be rude, objectionable, or whatever, well, I got tired of writing polite TL; DR (Too Long, Didn't Read) posts at crybaby whiners. So now I just make it short and nasty.
If you find that funny, well and good. If you find that sad, that's even better.
It's simple, if you enjoy arena then play it no matter how good you are at it. If you don't like it then play constructed. If you don't like constructed either then play another game.
Thank you for the help. I've actually been doing alot of constructed and trying to move up in the ranks and I'm having ok success, but I am definitely missing some cards that will help out tremendously, also, i'm running with the rogue deck and loving it with my Leroy combos. That being said, I may arena and hope for the best and learn as much as possible early on as you stated. I can always play constructed if I feel like arena really isnt for me early on.

Yep. Even with a bad draft, you can still pull out at least 3 wins with enough arena experience. Although even people like Trump and Kripp sometimes get 3 wins or less if matchups are tough.

As someone who got their first 12 win arena yesterday, I'd say keep trying. Very worth it.
I keep my gold at a certain amount to give me some leeway for unlucky runs but everytime I get an excess of gold I buy packs.
