I am just curious on how people go about collecting HearthStone Decks/Cards? This is a question for mainly P2P players but does apply to F2P players as well and might help others just starting out. So what kind of budget do you set aside for cards and if you are F2P How much time do you set aside weekly for gold mining. My main question is When setting out do you find a deck you want to create and go about achieving the creation of this deck. Or like my approach are you going for full collection of cards and only dust if you have 3 or more and in case of a legendary 2 or more. Also if you have gone about in both approaches which did you mind most fulfilling? Trying to aquire a full collection has been a slow Process, but finally after a few monthes I am able to make a fair amount of competitive decks with a large selection of cards to experiment with, but still have along way to go with both mining, practicing, and $$! Well thanks for everyones input and advice. Thanks, Manier08.
its no less fulfilling buying the cards as opposed to earning them. if you have the money and want to spend it i would just spend it on all the packs you can but if you want to do free then thats definately possible. in terms of my budget i just used checks I got for bday or xmas maybe $40 spent total). i have a lot of the cards (30+ legendaries). have an entire control warrior deck, combo druid, handlock etc. i dont farm too much just normal daily amount. one thing i will admit is that its annoying seeing or wanting to try out a deck of your own and being like oh sh*t i dont have these 2 random epics i need but i dont want to craft them. for instance on occasion ive wanted to play some taunt druid but dont have Ancient of War so i just dont bother. in terms of the full collection i dont really care about it ive dusted 3x nat pagles bc hes a fairly useless card.
oh I mean is it less rewarding just sticking to one deck. I personally seem to get a lot of enjoyment in sitting down going through pages of cards and building crazy decks, but I keep my playable right now you never know what combos the future holds! I am a player that spends money on the cards regularly and will hopefully have a full classic set soon! LOL Nat Pagles is the only card I have ever ducted without having another on also. I think I used him to finish a Murloc deck back in the day. Also in the same boat with ancient of war, I went for the Ancient of Lore instead. But Ancient of Was will probably be my next epic I craft. Thanks for your advice!
I have at least one of every common and most of the rates, some epics and a few legendary cards. As a f2p it feels good knowing that your work for the gold has a nice payoff.
I grind, and buy when my funds allow it. I kind of collect everything, but will go on a disenchant spree if there is something I'm really looking for.
My current goal is to reach legend, when I do, I intend to disenchant as much of my collection as needed to turn my legend deck gold, after that I don't intend to grind or buy anymore, and will just play casually while collecting.
I have my main account which has most of the playable cards from all expansions. I have spent a bit of money on this account and can build pretty much any deck I want to.
My alt account is free to play. I must say that preconstructed brawls are your friend when it comes to completing quests for classes you are unable to field a deck. I saved gold and bought the first wing of BRM as the cards in that first wing are really good. Then I worked my way through NAX but stopping before the last wing. I always buy classic packs with gold now, and craft up the commons and rares from the other sets as required. I also went through and dusted all the rubbish rares and cards I know I will never play with.
I built up patron warrior quite easily this way, as well as an okay face hunter. Recently I crafted up the good common mechs to make a mech mage and mech shaman.
Having the experience with my main account makes having a second f2p way easier. I really found I enjoyed HS again by restricting myself to a limited collection. It is also really satisfying to beat a player who has all the cards with a basic deck.
i have most of the cards in the game. i just spent money from my paychecks. im quite happy with my golden tirion, archmage, jaraxxus, nefarian, chromaggus, nexus champion saraad. was quite lucky because i got saraad from a 100 gold pack
Yeah I'm f2p as well with all adventures through grinding for about 4 months, and about 7 legendaries. Feeling great atm but still missing quite a lot of cards but making decent decks with the ones i do have.

You'll dis all your cards to make your legend deck golden only to find out it is worthless next season. Hardly any legend players get legend 2 seasons w/ the same deck. Well maybe hand lock or another list that is always somewhat viable.

Oh I totally understand that, and I may reconsider after reaching legend (what if I happen to win with something obscure/stupid)
The idea isn't to hit legend with the deck again, but to just make it gold in honor of hitting legend with it, as I said after I do, I will no longer spend money or grind the game anymore, just play casually for fun, and collect cards along the way.
I see it this way, once a legend always a legend, that is what my golden deck, and legend card back will represent to me.
I started playing August 2014, have about 500 hours and $500 into it, excluding TGT. Excluding TGT, I have a full collection including all expansions and adventures. Typically with classic and GVG I would grind enough to open 2 packs/3 days playing ranked or casual.
I would never craft anything until I was sure I would never buy anything in a group, because it's a huge waste to craft a card then open a copy. So, I would build up substantial dust then spend whatever was my final cash amount to be for that set and open the purchased packs. If I had really bad luck, I might buy a few more at that time. Then after I was sure I wouldn't be buying anymore, I would start to craft.
That's what I've done with TGT: bought the pre-order and another forty packs. I'll grind a few months because it is a thrill to open a new card. Probably buy another 40 packs or so, then start crafting the rest.
Between releases, I spend the dust crafting golds that can only be crafted, never open or won: Nax and BRM.
I've never dusted cards except excess copies. I have four gold legendaries: Black Knight; Illidan; Neptulon; and, Trademaster Tallowix (sp.).
I'll never dust my gold copies, but I've started thinking about dusting my non-gold versions to streamline the collection and because I will never use them.
i buy packs during my first year in hearthstone. Then I got into arena though im still not that great at it, average of 4~5 wins. But due to time constraints, im mostly just doing quests / ranking up till 13. The gold I end up with I try to play arena for a few runs but then they grow fast and I end up buying packs again.
I collect everything. I've got a few legendaries and I crafted a few that I wanted with the dusts that I got from packs/arenas without dusting anything. I main malylock for quite a while now and I dont really know what to craft with my available dust. XD
I have all the cards from GVG, Classic and the Expensions. From TGT I miss: 3 rares, 7 epics and 6 legends. I also got 5 golden legends (Sylvanas, Sneed, Boom, Malganis, Ragnaros). I've been playing since november and including the expensions and the TGT pre-order I have spend in total about € 150.
I have to say I have had an insane amout of luck, my account is really touched by some sort of Blizzard angel. the first 70 packs i openend i got about 25 legends i think. (twice 2 legends in one pack) In the TGT pre-order i also got 11 legends.
P2P player here, sunk about $300 into my account. I only main 3 classes (Paladin, Hunter, Warlock), so the remaining class cards are melted to dissuade me from ever giving into temptation of playing another class.

Something about this seems... Exaggerated
yes. only 150$ and all the cards i think it's not possible.
When I first started in closed beta I put in about $100 on arenas. I have never put any other money into the game but have completed the daily quests every day since (dropping the 40 gold ones to try to get better ones). Some days I grind the 100 gold but usually I just play when I can and don't worry about it. I am decent in arena but definitely not infinite. I have been able to purchase everything with gold and dust and have Chillmaw, Justicar, and Varian from the latest set and most relevant (and many irrelevant) legends from previous sets. To put the amount of grinding in perspective I have 5864 play mode wins and 3469 arena wins.
I generally do not disenchant golden cards anymore although I did when I first started collecting (still regret disenchanting the defender of argus, sunwalker, and thoughtsteal). I disenchanted a golden Nozdormu, multiple king krushes, and every card that got nerfed - only recrafted if I needed them (still never got another Leeroy). I have a golden Mekgineer Thermaplugg that I can't bear to disenchant and am still hoping he gets put to use some day and a golden Malygos.
I’ll drop my 5c. I’m 100% F2P, not because I’m trying to accomplish anything specific, but because if I don’t have to pay for a game, I won’t.
If I could pay for specific legendries I would because while I have a fair amount of cards, I don’t have the ‘essential’ legendries. Sadly I spent my dust on building a full demon deck (MalG, Jar jar) and well… you can imagine how that went.
Finally I’m frustrated with how little dust you get VS what a legendary costs. I practically dust every booster because I have the cards - which gives me, what, 60 dust or something? That makes creating common to epic feasible, but legendary…. 1600 dust seriously.

I'm a p2p player, and have near a full collection (minus a few epics and the bad legendaries) (all S,1,1.5, and half of 2 tier legendaries)
spent about 250 usd on exp and packs, but I also have a full time job and have over 300 hours into HS... So well worth the cost in my eyes
That's on NA, on EU I've only bought the expansions but have less than 30 hours on EU, not played the asian server

Put about 400 dollars into it and can make most decks already

50dollars on GvG and only BRM with cash and have 38 craftable legendaries (all the good ones) and almost every epic.
