It's not BM unless it was meant to be BM. I have played like 5000 games of league, saying well played is just a basic show of sportmanship to me. If someone concedes, I still say well played and I say well played before I concede. Don't read so much into it, most people are just trying to be a good sport.
Also, in SC2 the only reason the loser gg's first is because he's the one who decides when the game is over (plus, most of my time in SC2 was spent in the arcade. People still gg'd there every game too lol).
I understand your logic, i really do. But if people are trying to be a good sport, why can't they WP after the loser WP first?
The thing you said about SC2, why is that any different from HS? The loser has the option the concede.
But anyways..
Here's a quote from wikipedia, from the part "Poor Etiquette"
Offensive GG - Typing in the gg "for" your opponent, basically indicating that you consider the game to be over.
I don't get the point of the quote. So if the loser concedes, the 'wp' is offensive because the game isn't considered over? You guys are basically getting butthurt because after a tennis match, your opponent decided to offer a handshake.

Offensive GG would be if you have fatal on the board next turn and hit WP before ending your this turn, assuming your opponent can't do anything about it. That might be considered rude.
But if you already won the game, I can't see anything rude about it.
Saying 'Well Played.' as you swing in for lethal isn't an offensive GG IMO, gotta get terms straight.
Most of the time the opponent already knows they're fucked and WPs at the end of their turn anyways, at which point an in-kind response is totally fine.
I try to say Well Played whenever I have just won, or have just lost. I try to do it right as I swing in or right after I win / die. This is not a rudeness, more of a polite way of saying "Good Game" to me, although I have miss-clicked well played at the very beginning of the game instead of greetings >.>
Asides from that, the Thank You emote is also appropriate when an opponent genuinely states well played on a well thought out move. When they say sorry after a move of theirs or yours goes perfect or awry depending, it is usually just to mention how lucky they were, not to taunt you. The people who are REALLY out to insult you just spam emotes for 90 seconds and do nothing, though I have not seen this type of player since late October (hurrah for no trolls?)
A good game emote is a decent idea, to branch off from the "Well Played" for the moment when an opponent makes an excellent play.
I say well played if I feel it was a good match. If the match was one-sided, and I win without any resistance, then I won't say it, because it was most likely just a bad draw for the other player. I won't say sorry either, that's just being descendent.
Funnily enough they recorded sound bites for Good Game. You can find some old youtube videos of the sounds before the closed beta was released to the public. Not sure how people got the sound bites, but they did.
Most of the time, if they pass turn and I have the game winning play, I'll say WP. I don't see it as rude. The calculations are done, and as soon as they hit end turn without rectifying the game state in their favor, there's no chance of them winning. So what I'll do is lay everything down first, and then WP, and let them observe the gamestate. I'll usually queue the swings in, but sometimes they'll reply with their own WP and a concede.
Must be my MTG background. That's usually how it goes between players. The turn is passed to the player about to win, that player reveals what's about to happen, hands are shook, and the loosing player enters scoop phase.
However, I will say that I never EVER return a WP when on the receiving end of Pyroblast cheese. That gets a taunt. That's my thing though.
A "Good Luck" emote would be awful. People would use it in the wrong way. They would do a big play (like setting up the board in a strong way) and say "Good Luck" like "goood luck dealing with this!".
1. I agree saying sorry is much worse and is just asinine.
2. I don't feel that I should have to squelch ever player that I face just because others are being rude, regardless if they believe they are not.
3. For the one who said "armor up bro", you say this as an excuse for you to be an a-hole. I am not offended by the statement. I am just stating that when I lose a game, I don't feel I should be told "well played", when in fact the game isn't well played if I am losing.
Lastly, saying "well played" may be considered a sign of respect, but you are just a complete a-hole if you think saying it to an opponent right before you win is gamesmanship. Saying "well played" is something a gracious loser should say. I would the first to admit this and say it when I lose to a well played match. Over and over again I am told "well played" I believe that if I am losing then it wasn't well played on my part and don't need to be told. It is rude no matter how you see it. Especially when its said to me after I concede the match. It is saying that I made a well played move by conceding. A more appropriate thing to say is "good game", which is not the same thing. I can see only two scenarios in which a winning player should ever use the term "well played". The first being if he/she is on the receiving end of a play that was either countered a previous move they made or was just played great play. The second would be as a response to the when the loser says "well played" after a losing (not by concession) to a well fought match.
In closing I want to say these are just my opinions and everyone here obviously has their own opinion on these matters and that being said nothing will ever change the fact that people are gonna do what they are gonna do. For now I will just try to remember to squelch my opponent right before I lose so I don't have to see the emote "well played"

I agree with alot of what you're saying. But I would also like to say that this game has 6 emotes, and the players don't have alot of options. Its not that people are always being assholes, its that they don't have the correct option so they are doing their best. Don't get me wrong alot of people are assholes, especially the ones that spam emotes the whole time, and I love beating them. But I don't think you should be quite as offended simply because Good Game isn't an option. I think Blizz should think about expanding the emotes a bit, maybe even just allowing each of the 6 sub options to have different things you can set, like changing well played to good game.

To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of the women.
i will always say greetings at the start, and usually WP at the end or if they make a good play. If im playing a troll deck like my priest use their cards against them deck or my paladin divine shield deck i will spam sorry and thank you just to mess with them lol. I guess im just a mean guy like that but if i can get them to rage quit it was worth it. those decks are annoying so i feel like i need the emotes to match lol. I think its hilarious when they emote spam me, just laugh it off and move on. Its 10-15 minutes of your life, is it really worth getting upset over?

It's not different from hearthstone. I say well played AFTER they concede or as I am finishing them off. I'm not talking about offensive ggs

Oh, then we agree on that. I was talking about offensive gg's. I have no issues with WP after i concede.
In HS, the game IS over though.

I generally only do it to piss my opponent off, most often when they play warlock low mana rush. Apparently it works.

I prefer well met

as a general rule, i squelch everyone at the start of the game =)

Not enough emphasis formatting options to indicate how wrong this is.
