We all saw the latest Blizzard announcement concerning some cards people want to see nerfed/buffed.
Besides Undertaker, that totally deserves to be changed in my opinion, I had something else bother me.
Ben Brode clearly stated that Gadgetzan Auctioneer was changed because of the spare parts.
Wouldn't it be easier to create a 4th type of cards? Beside the current Minions, Spells and Weapons. If Spare parts become a card type, it could bring the following changes:
- Gadgetzan Auctioneer can go back to being a 5 costs. It is not like Miracle was overpowered in November. The fact that jj102 got #1 EU is irrelevant to the debate imo, since it is one guy who practiced his deck a lot. The skill cap on Malygod is high.
- Mana Wyrm will stop getting buffed by those, which might not seem a lot, but it would reduce the amount of early threats in mech mage, making the deck a very little less explosive at start, so it could be a good thing, and wouldn't nerf it to the ground at all.
- Archmage Antonidas shenanigans with all the spare part will stop. I don't think those shenanigans are OP, I just find it sad Auctioneer was nerfed basically because he is a neutral, but a nearly infinite Fireballcombo is not bothered.
- Those spart parts won't trigger counterspells anymore, which can add to the strategic aspect of the game. In my opinion, once thing that really hurts secret mage in the current meta is that counterspell just get baited out by a (useless) spart part, and became just way less effective.
What do you guys think? It is not a huge change, but it could help Gadgetzan to come back and reduce the early explosivity of mech mage, without nerfing it for real, sounds like a good deal to me!
To address the cards you called out specifically, Mana Wyrm is still really easy to kill, so it proccing off spare parts isn't a huge, game winning swing. I mean, it can definitely snowball, but three health means dealing with the problem is pretty easy. The good Archmage, on the other hand, is expensive to play, and limited in deck quantity, so while it CAN turn into a frustratingly repetitive barbecue with spare parts, I don't think it's common or easy enough to pull off to warrant concern. I mean, it's happened to me like, twice, in the last month. At that infrequency it's just an "aww shucks" moment.
I don't know about the counterspell thing. Counterspell is still really potent, and there's effective ways to bait most other secrets, so it's not all that unfair that mages have one that can get sucker punched like that.
Long story short, I don't agree they should be a different type of card. I think the classification as a spell enables more cool mechanics than it breaks.
auctioneer could just be buffed on STATS rather on mana cost. 5/5 maybe?
in my opinion, the mana cost is what bothers up. We started using Sprint, because for 7 mana right now, you have Gadgetzan Auctioneer +Conceal, so you need those 2 cards to draw 1 other, and hope your 4/4 will survive to get value. Where with Sprint, you don't get the body, but you guarantee 3 more cards... combined with Preparation [/card](so, 2 cards as well) you just get 4 cards for 3 mana. It seems more reliable these days sadly.
So I think the current issue for Auctioneeris its mana cost, not its stats. eventho a 5 life auctioneer would survive [card]bomb lobber / Flamestrikewhile concealed :) so it can be considered yes
Yeah, no. They never liked miracle, drawing your entire deck was not the sort of play they considered good for the game, no one wants it back.
And, fundamentally, it's just overcomplicating a nice simple system to make them some not-spell kind of spell.
I get they want interaction, but at the same time, they say they don't want undertaker to be nerfed, which is the card that allows full face to win games... where is the interaction with full face hunter? according to magic amy's latest tempo storm article, face hunter is the 6th current best deck (and not by far).
Yes drawing your entire deck was stupid, but now there are solutions against it (bomb lobber is an amazing card, it wouldn't be a sacrifice to run it to counter miracle). But between drawing your whole deck to combo, and just going face with the 12 first cards without looking at anything but taunt, one is worst than the other. I would like consistency :/ at least to play miracle, you needed some skills!
but yes it is complicating the current system (not by much, but yeah i get your point)
If they nerf Spare Parts then one of the few reasons to buy/craft GvG cards goes out the window.
I'm not saying I don't agree with some of your suggestions, but barely any GvG cards are run as it is and after just ~15 packs I already don't feel much need to get anymore. They are surely aware of how little GvG changed the meta and how little it's cards are being used so I don't think they'll nerf any GvG cards for a while.

Play cards in the first six turns, maybe? trade, removal? Or maybe there is a reason taunt exists. They have this great thing, annoy-o-tron-. There's loads of things the other player can do when an aggressive one-drop hits the board with any deck. And, sixth? why are we complaining about the sixth best deck? why are the top five more okay?
Antonidas/spare parts combo is not nearly as glorious as it seems on paper... If your opponent is a midrange or aggro deck, you lose! That combo is way TOO SLOW and only works good against Control decks.
How little GvG has changed the meta? you're joking around right? It has changed the meta so much that all 9 classes have never been more balanced. Any class at any given time can beat any other class, and IMO class balance is as much a part of the ( and the most important part of a meta ) as card value in certain decks.

Sprint costs 4 after prep. Auctioneer is fine at 6. With that many good answers to aggro available (healbot) auctioneer would warp the meta around him. No thx
yeah my bad, lets say typo ^^' i managed to do in my head "7 mana minus 3 is 3" gg

I agree, as I said it is not "game changing", I am just stating the changes it would bring, beside helping Auctioneer out :) thanks for your input!

YES, they should change spare parts into some other card type. It really messes with Spellbenderand Counterspell.
"Can I help you, sir?" -Jeeves
