Any company, not just Game Studios will never substantially upgrade server architecture for impending load. They write it off as acceptable loss, because it beats wasting money on server upgrades they'll probably only need for a week. At best, they just try to upgrade in tandem with the load as it comes in. Is either option sufficient for us? God no. For them? You bet'cha.
I refuse this answer. I have heard it way too many times whenever Blizzard tries to release and keeps fucking up. Put some money into your damn servers, make them state of the art. To upgrade to the standard they need to be is a drop in the bucket from all that subscription money they are getting. They should be leading the way for MMO's and online gaming, not writing it off as an acceptable loss because its a "good business move." Wouldn't it also be good business to make your customer happy after constantly and endlessly letting them down at every release.
tl;dr Blizzard needs to man up and just upgrade already. Get that IBM shit or something.
Actually the "Bosses" at blizzard don't care. They know even if it's down for another 3 days people are still going to throw money at them for GvG packs. They will sleep like babies tonight. You or us as customers don't mean a whole lot to them. They have a product they know you want and doesn't matter how badly they treat the customers, like crack addicts they know you'll still come back to them. IT will take a life changing experience for you to turn your nose up at them and slap their hands of advances towards your wallet away. They know this and it's sad that they exploit it. But hey, it's a business.
That's too true. The solution is for players to actually cut back the cash they had intended to spend on GvG to punish Blizzard for the delay. But will players do that? Of course not. If anything, they might buy MORE packs because things appear more desirable the harder they are to attain. Blizzard knows this, so they have zero incentive to improve the servers.
Im sorry you have low Expectations. But considering Blizzard is a company and their business is making content for games. I think they should get it right the first time and not have their customers (us) have to wait. I can bet some of the bosses at Blizzard arent please that hearthstone is down cause that is costing them money because people want to buy packs to get GvG cards so stfu cause its pretty ironic a troll on the forums of a game is saying we have nothing better to do lol.
If you are gonna continue throwing money at them even after this extended downtime, it means that they are doing something right.
no need to waste money on extra servers if disgruntled addicts are still willing to give them the moolah regardless of maintenance.
the bosses couldn't care less because profits are already off the roof, let's face it, you are still gonna buy those packs later so they aren't really losing anything.
The fact that they gave millions of WoW subscribers 5 free days each after the WoD launch issues (= $2.50 x millions = $10 million+ in free game time) should give you some idea of just how expensive it is to bring on extra servers to cover massive launch day spikes.
I know you are joking but.... F2P is a business model. Where the keyword here is 'business', i.e. they make a LOT of money from this game. I find it strange that every game or major patch Blizzard launch is a disaster.
That being said I have only been a playing Blizz games for a year or so. But it is something I have differentiate noticed enough to never be hopeful on day one of any launch.
