There's a difference in "playing" and "summoning" a minion. The warrior quest requires you to "play" the taunt minions. A minion is only played, if you drag it from your hand onto the field. "Summon" additionally includes any other means of putting a minion onto the field - Battlecrys, Deathrattles, spells, Hero Powers and so on.
