Hi all, is just an impresion. Old MTG years cycle used to have one big expansion at the begining and to lesser along the year ( i think they have change that in last years)
In HS we have one expansion of 140+ cards at begining year, one adventure at mid season and finally one adventure at end of year. For the Standard cycle the last expansion has an average live in Standard of 16 months.
As is a shorter "live" ( yes i know it will be in wild always) expansion i think it should have less cards than a average expasion. around 100 cards. That way it may be more apeasant to palyers as they perceive need to invest less in packs but the average of 60+ packs could beeasilly reached for everyone. Also for f2p players it will give a respire as one full expansion will be out 4 months later.
if you are a f2p player that is playing a couple of decks and needing to save so they can open 20-50 packs with gold and craft key cards for said decks there is no problem with the status quo.
if you are trying to live large like a premium paying player with f2p you have to accept that you have to live with less cards or spend, it's a bit unreasonable to expect the deluxe experience doing nothing to support the game. You want to play tons of decks in all 9 classes that is a premium deal outside of the most ardent longtime f2p wiz the juice grinders.
for rotation they made it clear they are not magic, will it change in future likely. Magic has changed over the years to suit their needs to milk the shit out of of their small customer base, not sure if it's in blizzards interest to copy wizards standard format releases etc. Frankly the main reason I don't play magic anymore is the insane cost and my cards rotating chronically.
The Hearthstone will find the right formats eventually it will likely take a few more seasons, but there are positive signs that they are willing to fix and change things to suit people better, as shown with the nerfs and the new format, the recent approach to arena and their statements and about standard and wild for next year. It does sound a bit awkward at the beginning and end of a cycle of a season but if it's a fubar they will fix that release schedule between now and the next season or two.
If anything the switching between adventure and pack based expansions make it reasonable to save gold for and also to not have to craft for expansions and thus gain dust through dusting or just saving for the next main set. If anything they just need to refine their themes and card quality going forward.
Still magic is very long in the tooth and still has issues, and blizzard is tinkering with theirs and have a ton of players. My concern with the game doesn't seem like it will ever be fixable, and that is the fact it's like two player solitaire the interaction is low, and that leads to frustration when dice rolls go against you.
Here's to the winter expansion being a good one.

Yes, I think it would be smart to have the second expansion each year be smaller and more focused. If it were geared toward balancing the meta for that year and contained more high-value cards that continued themes developed throughout the year, it would generate buzz without requiring quite as much of the "dog and pony show" aspect that would come along with a big expansion or an adventure.
It also would be easier to get a somewhat smaller expansion out on schedule....
