I actually am fairly certain we won't get a full expansion until q1 of 2017. I believe they said each year will have one expansion and two adventures.
When the devs discussed the formats with some pro players last year they said they wanted to release two expansions and one adventure each year. They might have changed their mind since, but that's the latest info we have on this topic.
There is a new adventure a few months after each expansion.
So:
We should be getting a new adventure with the next month or month and a half.
The next expansion will be this December, 2016. I wonder what it will be ;)
That is some deep analysis!
I think the pre-WOTOG release schedule is not really as relevant anymore. There's official word that they are planning on 2 exp/1 adventure per calendar year starting with 2016, which means that we get a spring expansion, summer adventure, autumn expansion.
April Expansion - July Adventure - November Expansion makes most sense. With calendar year rotation, you don't want to release the first set of the year before April and you don't want to release the last set of the year after November. Otherwise, the Autumn expansion will see an unreasonably short time in rotation (which will hurt sales, imo).
There's no reason for them to put down 2 adventures. If they go by the new schedule then it'll be an adventure next and an expansion before the new year.
If they don't, then they'll probably stick to the original schedule which is Adventure/Expansion/repeat . Thus even then, it'll be an Adventure then Expansion next.
There's no indication that they would do anything else or would have any difficulty doing anything else.
So yes, adventure coming next month. If you are a F2Per you should've been saving for a while now actually as it takes about 1.5 months of casual play to gather the gold needed before the first week, if you want to open them as they are released.
It's two expansions and one adventure each year... Adventure around August and second expansion around November. First expansion of each year will release around April.

Why is there so much confusion about this?
Along with the internet being a place to find facts easily, it's also a great place to find and get trapped by misinformation.
So it's VERYYYY easy for confusion to reign supreme.
April - July - November schedule... ? November to next April is 5 months without a new release, seems like a long time. If divided more or less evenly it would be April, August, December.

I thought the next adventure was widely speculated to be released in July, in which case it would make sense for it to be changed to May - July - November. Or it might be April - July - November cycle because the expansions might take more time than adventures to be made.
Blue: they may have separate teams working on adventure and expansion in parallel, so the development time that goes into the adventure would also be time that is spent developing the expansion
Trust me, guys - it's going to be adventure in July and expansion in December ;)
One thing to note is that the May release of old gods isn't due to old gods. It was due to Standard, which had to be completely designed.. and redesigned after the fall conference after player input. The expansion had to wait for that. THAT probably won't happen again.
Note that expansions aren't made in only a few months. They said they work on expansions 2 sessions ahead. Thus while old gods was in development, they were already designing the next two expansions as well. The release schedule is dragged out this long more because of us than them: they feel that 3 updates a year is long enough for us to have time with the content and fast enough to keep the game from going stale.
So the normal setup is probably more in line with how GvG/BRM/TGT went: March, August, November
So that's 4, 5, and 3 months respectively, though I think they rush out adventures faster since they are easier and take advantage of the fact that adventure cards are spread out over a month as doing so means they can keep it to about 3-4 months between new content. Also note that Old Gods shows that we still enjoy the Hype Train so expect Adventures to 'surprise' you while Expansions get a month of Hype, which also helps decide when new content will show.
Thus I'm suspecting Old Gods will be 3 months before the next expansion, which will be July, then since the adventure will spread over into August, that'll mean the expansion will be in 3 months after the last wing, in December. Which will mean 4 months later, in March will be the next expansion with the hype starting in March.
There is a new expansion about every 8 months.
There is a new adventure a few months after each expansion.
So:
We should be getting a new adventure with the next month or month and a half.

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.

Missing lethal since June 2015.
