So disappointing. A 5 mana Hellfire with a drawback? Ugh...
What drawback? this is the first card to deny your opponent card drawel.
The drawback is conditional but it is still a drawback. Putting an aoe board clear into your opponent's deck is a very risky move that can come back to haunt you.
For arena though, this card is actually quite good. Sure, it's 1 more mana than Hellfire but aoe is so powerful in that format that it's hard to imagine it not being good. For constructed though, I feel this card is below average and there's usually very little room for below average cards in ranked. It may do well to help priests slow down the aggressive decks as others have pointed out, but then I look at that 5 mana cost and have a hard time believing it.
This is an awesome card. In most games you will have a single 5/12 on board (or nothing) and they will have a bunch of 1-3 health minions. This will destroy their board and do nothing to yours. Then you give them a card that will destroy their own board again if they play it but not have any effect on yours. Yo essentially give them a blank draw.
There is some synergy with the +spell power of Velen's Chosen to make Excavated Evil a 2-mana cheaper Flamestrike. Also, since it damages your own minions, it has some synergy with Northshire Cleric and Circle of Healing for massive card draws. Turn 6, play Excavated Evil, drop the Northshire, cast Circle of Healing, and if your Power Word Shielded/Velen's Chosen high-health minions survived, they draw you cards.
This card may actually be good for 'Freeze Priest' (some of you may recognize that name), the deck where you just draw and finish your opponent with a juicy Velen OTK combo. This could very well replace a nova and work out better :)
If Priest ever desperately needs more board clears than 2 Holy Novas + doesn't want to play Auchenai + Circle this card could be used. Definetly no top tier card but maybe some metas make this card playable.

Who can take your trash out? Stomp it down for you? Shake the plastic bag and do the twisty thingy, too?
This is terrible at face value (you are also giving this card to your opponent, 5 mana symetrical effect etc) but might see play in constructed decks focused around this card/idea.

If you look closely, you can see this is a signature and not a comment. Why are you reading? Stop reading this. Did you read this too? Dang you must like reading.
Everyone calling this card garbage has no clue about this game.
It's basically a staple in Shadow/fatigue priest, and one of the most powerful cards in the deck. EASY replacement for Holy nova in this deck.
Why do you always assume new cards should only help popular decks ? Of course it's sh*t in dragon priest and stuff. Who cares ?? That's not the point.
Are you serious? Holy nova is waaaaay better than this. Shadow priest or not, this card sucks ass.
No, Holy nova isn't better than this in shadow priest. Period.
Do explain how. Right now I'm seeing a hellfire that costs one more and with a drawback. How does this benefit shadow priest at all? It's not even a deck

I returned to this game much like how a recovering alcoholic can relapse.
I actually think this card is quit good, most boearflood decks have 0 use for this card so this is a dead draw. However its just 1 damage difference vs holy nova. And when meta is not full of patrons ill pick Holy over this.
It doesn't take a genius to realize that this card is very powerful in spell heavy/ fatigue Priest. Regardless of the fact that this deck is not a thing RIGHT NOW, it is getting new tools from this adventure. This card is leagues/miles/leaps and bounds better than holy nova in this particular type of Priest deck, whereas it is much worse in dragon priest. Will it be enough to get people to play fatigue priest? Who knows, I'll try it for sure. But to all the people saying "this card just sucks, is strictly worse than holy nova, etc..." No you are just not thinking it through, it is better in a certain type of deck. Get a clue. Do you think Handlock could exist without hellfire? Nope it would not, similarly fatigue Priest needs this card to gain any traction moving forward.
I was just at Blizzcon and talked to Admirable about this. Yeah, it's definitely anti-aggro. The point of it is that it clears the board usually for aggro and priest's minions usually have more than 3 health - AND - it's a dead draw for your opponent.
Also with entomb this can be broken realy fast, i kinda understand why blizz made this like this. Fatigue Priest with + 2x aoe and 2x hardremoval that puts th thread in his own deck is kinda scarry.
And I realy, realy, realy dont want a fatigue priest meta.
I really cant see any use for this card and I very glad there is people here better deckbuiders than me thinking in possibilities. Priest have so many boardclears...
The 3 damage doesn't actually target many minions specifically, either decks have minions with above or below 3 health (think Druid and Paladin) so there are few cases where this will be better than a Holy Nova (although it has the slight upside of giving the opponent a dead draw). Basically, there are better AoE options already available to Priest so this will only be useful in very niche Priest decks (low minion/ high spell count, most likely combo decks).
Wouldn't this be really bad if a match up goes to fatigue and this is the only card left, each player just keeps playing it to avoid taking any fatigue damage?
No, because the player ahead in the race would simply not play it. I mean why would you help your opponent?
This works extremely well in my shadow/fatigue priest deck. (under my name if you are interested)
This deck is strictly removal, and only minions that assist removing their minions / weapons, reacting to what your opponent plays each turn. I run two holy novas, and would gladly swap one out for this, as 1 point of damage to an entire board is a big deal. Giving the card to them not only denies them draw one turn, but if they decide to use it on the very few minions I use, I'll get it back. I've hit legend with this deck multiple times.
Basically, everyone who's saying this is a shit card probably is only applying it to current popular priest decks. New cards need to be added for a new archetype to form. The people that automatically say a card is bad before trying it are usually 100% netdeckers that have really no idea as to the power or different ways they can use cards anyway, irrelevant opinions.
So I spent a long time talking about this card with 2 friends at Blizzcon. This card has a lot more potential than it appears at first. So what does this card do? It is a 3 damage AOE as well as a tempo disrupter.
AOE: 3 Damage to all minions on the board ~~~ What does is accomplish? It shuts down aggro and can clear out the early minions of tempo decks. The majority of your minions would survive anyway because Priests have high health minions that normally dodge the 3 damage
Add the card to the opponents deck ~~~ This card is the only card that can disrupt your opponent's draw tempo which is HUGE. I had a chance to talk to Firebat, Orange, Purple, and Nias at blizzcon and they all seemed to agree that the worst thing about the game is that extremely tempo favored to a ridiculous degree. As Firebat pointed out, if you look at his performance at last years blizzcon he never made any crazy plays, he simply played on curve and it won him the world championship. So what does this has to do with this card? well it makes it extremely strong against aggro, tempo, and midrange. All of these decks rely on card draw tempo to ensure that they have options every true. On top of the tempo they lose from the minions that die to the AOE they later lose more tempo due to drawing a dead card later on. They can't easily make use of the card because it kills their own board as well. If they do use the card then it will likely have to be comboed with them sacrificing their board and will give you a chance to draw it again allowing you an additional board clear.
What card(s) would this replace? ~~~ This would most likely replace Soulpriest + CoH combo because this combo already shows that you are willing to run a 4 damage aoe that hits your minions so for 1 more mana, 1 less damage, and 1 deck slot that it freed up (Huge for priest because they have the interesting issue of having so many good cards that you can't run them all in 1 deck without a bunch of 1 ofs)
So when will you run this card? ~~~ This card will be run in the tempo/aggro heavy meta. This card really bad in control matches however because it likely won't have much impact on the board but gives the other guy an additional card in this deck that can lose you the match if it goes to fatigue.

Will you get this card back when your opponent plays it?
The text suggests so, it says "this card"... so it can be played for ever?
How much fatigue do you take when you fatigue for one, then have a card in your deck again and then fatigue again? 2?
Cant wait to try this in shadowform fatigue priest!
