Stop saying "average 4.5dmg" as if it really is that simple. Crackle will does one of two things, overkill what's killed; or fails to kill what needs to be removed.
There may even be a point where Shaman runs both cards with Crackle replacing Lightning Bolt, we'll have to see how things pan out before making any sweeping statements.
True. There is already some people like Kolento, who drop ligh. bolt from their decks because its not have much value and often you force to cast it on turn 2 anyway that makes it cost 3 mana essentially. I do agree that u cannot even compare this card for Lava Burst, since its so poor, and Crackle would replace light. bolt in many Shaman decks.
no it's not, it's far from bad, and stop thinking it's 5 mana. its not, it's 3 mana and 2 overload. overload should not be counsidered a mana cost, most certainly late game, the most I end up not doing on those turns, is not lay a totem on the board. 1 less totem. big woop. you don't want to rely on RNG in a shaman deck that is already using RNG from the start on that hero power
I will continue to use lava burst over crackle. as crackle isn't worth taking the chance for outside of a miracle shaman.
to put my own thoughts on the card. good idea. but. there is just too much space between the high and low number of the card. I can't rely on it to do it's job. if there was some way to control it's RNG, I would definitely give it a try, but as it is, I can't do it.

Seriously, I can't see you make it pass Angry Chicken rank.
Why does Blizzard insist on turning Shaman into an RNG class? Especially with bad RNG like this. I don't really mind a little bit of RNG where the bad outcome is not that bad but the good outcome is not game-breaking either but this does not really fit that description.
This is not fun. It is pretty much never fun to lose and winning because I had great RNG on shit like this.... Oh that really makes me feel as if I accomplished something.
The card itself is strong, but it is just too much RNG imo.
Turning? Considering our hero power is a 1/4 I think we always were an RNG class. However, I do agree, I don't like this card. It's probably a good card, but 4 different outcomes? I don't like that. However, it does offer the class more variety, now you can drop your lightning bolts and lava bursts in favour of this card if you want to.
I personally don't see myself playing this card, 4 different outcomes is too much, and unlike Ragnaros(or even the shaman hero power) there's literally no way to reduce the number of outcomes.
I RARELY finish the game with Al'akir ever hitting my hand, much less the field. as a rule, I don't consider 1 card in 30, a good thing to rely on to end the game. it helps, and also, I can choose to NOT play lava burst turn 9, by then, I think I have the space to hex and not worry about my opponent's next card too much if I'm going to try and hit with the buffed windlord
shaman decks have to control their tempo, hence why it's considered the midrange class on hearthstone-top-deck, if you can't do that, then you won't reach even below rank 10 with that class.
I personally don't see myself playing this card, 4 different outcomes is too much, and unlike Ragnaros(or even the shaman hero power) there's literally no way to reduce the number of outcomes.
But you do have ways to reduce unwelcoming outcomes from this card. The same with Ragnaros who you dont play against swarmy board, you dont play this card alone and hope to kill Druid of the Claw. Mostly you would use this card when 3/4 outcomes are good for you.
Look, i play a lot of Shaman and i'm as used to feeling ignored or misunderstood as the rest of you. And while i'd rather Shaman not become the predominant RNG class, the fact is...it is. And at least for this expansion, that's the way it's gonna stay. However, THIS is not the card to bitch about. RNG that can backfire on you (Madder Bomber into your face - Ancestor's Call pulling opponents Rag) is intended for casual and newer players. Which is fine by the way - both of those audiences are way bigger than our community and to be honest i'm amazed that Ranked play has such a strong draw in peoples hearts - you receive zero reward for ranking up and basically need to learn how to play against 2 different decks at any given time as opposed to the constant novelty of casual.
Anyhow, back to this card - THIS card, like your hero power or lightning storm, is RNG that you play for the baseline effect, with a backup already in your pocket, and then anything on top of that is that much more advantage for you. Crackle isn't something you play on an empty board at a 4+ health minion. Crackle is what you play into an Argus'd Fire Elemental and then decide if you need to run your Searing Totem or your Harvest Golem into it. And then if it takes care of the problem all together, you are that much more ahead. It's the same as flipping your hero power before a lightning storm - if you get that spell power you're stoked...if not, it's not that big of a deal because you are expecting it and have prepared for it.
Personally I love the fact that this spell if played right will never hurt me, and often it will give me more than I expected. What other class can do that?
It's fun, but Shaman really needs better card draw, please Blizzard show us the awesome Shaman class card that isn't as terrible as Mana Tide or Far Sight.
Well, Miracle Shaman has its problems, but if you want card draw, go that way. I have run out of cards with my opponent still having 14 in the deck...lol Not always the path to success btw...and Far Sights are Gawd in Miracle Shaman.
It's fun, but Shaman really needs better card draw, please Blizzard show us the awesome Shaman class card that isn't as terrible as Mana Tide or Far Sight.
Far sight is not card draw, and Mana Tide is decent card. We need heal more than draw.

Wouldn't it be smarter to use Lava Burst to kill the Fire elemental and keep your minions on the board instead of 2 for 1 ing yourself with this RNG card?
Suppose you assume this card does 4 damage or more. 75% of the time you're right, and it's a great card. 25% of the time, you're wrong, and the match gets harder to win (assuming you couldn't mitigate in the situation where it did 3 damage). Overall, it's going to help you 75% of the time. That's good! Sure, it's annoying when you lose because of it, but the same is true of a bad starting hand. On the ladder, you don't need a 100% win rate; anything above maybe 60% is pretty good. So from that angle, this card isn't nearly as bad as everyone seems to want it to be...
Obviously this doesn't apply in tournaments, but hey. There are always other cards for those situations where 75% chance of a good outcome isn't acceptable.
shoulda picked a 6 health minion to really drive the point home... but anyway, Lava burst costs more (way more if you factor in overload). And we don't live in a world where you have to pick one or the other. Anyhow, Lava Burst is for decks and players that want no potential bonuses. Crackle is. Simple as that.

And again how you would kill Dark Cultist/Spider tank etc?

Mana Tide is bad, most of the time it's 3 Mana to draw 1 card, only time you get more cards if you are way ahead on board anyway, even then they most likely have some answer.
Not every class needs Heal, look at Rogue and Hunter, they do perfectly fine without it. Shaman has a lot of burst options atm but no efficient way to draw into them.

Lava Burst is not a top tier spell, just average at most. Crackle is straightly worst than Lava Burst.

The most you end up is not being able to finish game with Al'Akir + rockbiter combo, which would lead to lost game.
You will continue to use lava burst at start of GvG, but then you would switch it to Crackle as any sane person who want to win more than to lose.

if you use this with Bloodmage Thalnos you be like: Damn son where'd ya find this !
This is very good against taunt paladins or druids and also cool RNG removal.
