There is absolutely nothing wrong with Loatheb and needs no nerf of any kind....He's a basic 5 drop with a situational battlecry...The only thing making him a legendary is the battlecry...Without it he's a basic common quality card... If he was 3/5 he would be absolute garbage and no where near legendary quality. Basically all other 5 drops in the game can handle him...Spiteful Smith, Booty bay bodyguard...Dies to fireball still and Reaper weapon, starfall. He's fine as is.
If you put together a list of Legendaries with beneficial card text that pass the Vanilla test you would have:
King Krush
Prophet Velen
Ragnaros (mix of positive & negative, but net positive)
ETC (debatable on whether or not the text is positive - benefits both players)
Mekkatorque (debatable on whether or not the text is positive - inventions target both players)
Tinkmaster (debatable on whether or not the text is positive - effect targets a random minion and might be positive or negative)
That's a fairly short list with a lot of minions whose text benefit/harm both players.
If Loatheb can be considered balanced while passing the vanilla test, it would mean that his ability to shut down/massively hamper spellcasting for a turn is equivalent to having the Charge keyword.
I am glad to see this card to be honest it is an option vs spell heavy decks like miracle and soon to be reincarnate Leroy shaman. Though it is so good it will probably see play in almost every deck because there is no real downside to it and its stats make is a decent play period.

Don't all the dragons also pass the vanilla test? Illidan's stats also pass the test. (Gruul and Cenarius do not pass the vanilla test by default, but their abilities will give you stats equal/better to the test and currently cannot be stopped to my knowledge.)
I am curious to see if Tinkmaster Overspark will start seeing more play once Loatheb starts messing around with the removal options available to control players.
Pretty bad card. If it was a Murloc it would be fine, but just fine.
I assume you're referring to Tink. He definitely has some issues since the nerf - but there are only two other removal cards that can pierce Loatheb's battlecry without a massive cost increase, and both have attack value restrictions.
Guys, this is a battlecry effect. You can't silence it neither can you end it by killing Loatheb. It's a battlecry, it doesn't need the card to be around to be active. You don't see taunt removed by killing Argus, do you?
iLex was responding to someone who suggested that it would be better the other way around - and I brought up Tink not because he could remove Loatheb's effect, but because (outside of Miracle match ups) Loatheb would presumably hit the board in order to protect something, and Tink would still be able to get at that something (or at least have a chance of turning Loatheb into a cute little 1/1 before he can attack).
That card is good, but just if you've control on table, 5/5 is pretty god againt Gadgetzan but I dont think we could see this card in action out of a tourney, but its decent IMO.
So stoked for this card! It will definitely change things a lot, especially with the miracle rogue set up. I am so excited to see how people use this card. My only thing is that Blizzard has definitely made it easy to remove.....especially for Priest. However, unless they silence it, it will definitely be expensive....WHICH IS AWESOME! Also, I am sure more people will start running more silence based cards when this card starts making waves.
The only problem i have with the card is that it has 5 hp instead of 4. If it would have 4 hp you could at least trade with your minions but 5 hp is a spot which makes it really hard to deal with it.
But you're right, I did miss Illidan, who is 7/5 for 6.
Isn't 16 of stats for 9 about on curve? If nothing else, we don't have any 9/9s for 9 or anything I know of, though it might just mean we don't have a vanilla text 9-drop yet.. Onyxia at least should be on curve due to the whelps she summons, shouldn't see, since they can't be silenced or anything? Or at least comes close. (And two of the dragons are 4/12)

Priest has no way to remove it if you play it at around turn 5 and Silence doesn't do anything because it's a battlecry.
So? Priest HAS to have a way to remove it? Since when?

They sure do. Some even run taunt minions and AoE effects that don't require spells.

Nope, the dragons are 8/8 for 9.

The experience is everlasting.

Mexxna +5 to minions with battlecry and Loatheb is a true +1 turn :)
one with a functioning brain, hurray
