There are just 75 seconds per turn. In Arena you see and play cards that you never see in Constructed. You have to play around many cards. Each turn you have to go through 100 of cards to think, should I play around this card? It takes a lot of time. The decision - Go face or trade is more difficult in Arena than in constructed. There's a lot to be thought about and 75 seconds is too short for me. Also, I am not amazing at using Mouse. I have seen some people clicking a lot of stuff when the rope is about to burn completely. Many people can't do that.
Maybe the game should start with 40-50 seconds per turn from Turn 1(because you don't need that much time early on) and then increment the time per turn by 5 seconds after every turn.
I think the best system is giving both players 12-15 mins in Total. The turn timer then counts backwards when the player's turn starts. When that player ends his turn, then his opponent's clock starts. Just like in chess. I know this way people can rope for 12-15 mins, but if anyone does so, then Blizzard can ban him(probably for 3 days and his name can be displayed in Red), just like Online Chess Websites do(Chess.com).
In case Nozdormu is played in this system, then Noz will work normally, and max 15 secs will be deducted from each player's turn.
You cover it well and I think tournament play would benefit immensely from the chess style clock you reccomend. Players would abuse such a system online though and grieft their opponents more often by waiting large amounts of time. Personally I think the current system works about as well as it can for casual play. Just want to add that blizzard doesnt like banning players in hearthstone for bm or even cheating (see stream snipers) while other games do. It would be mess they would never want to undertake.
Shortening time and increasing it without an on screen clock is just too confusing and some decks like miracle could suffer from it where their turns can take a full turn of pure play, animations etc.
I wish there was an option for Nozdormu turns every turn. Some people treat this game like they are in a tournament and that's a problem, not counting the people that do it just to be a-holes, or the people that are just... busy doing stuff while playing.
It's very rare I don't play quickly, and I do get more than my share of 12 wins. Yes I misplay, but oh well, it's just a game.

Very interesting topic though.
