So had to make this thread after multiple arena drafts without a legendary. It is pretty frustrating to see enemies play legendaries in arena while you didn't get any because often they win you games. So, in my opinion they need to either remove legendaries from arena, or give every player 1 legendary per arena draft (and give it as a last card so they can't build their deck around it). Anyway, that's about it for now.
Legendaries add some spice, but I'm pretty sure it's balanced in some sort of way. Sometimes I end up with like 6 or 7 rares, sometimes a few rares and an epic, one time I got 2 Illidans, that was fun but only won me the game once. On average my legendaries just burn one of their hard removals, rather than win me the game.
Shnikum, you forgot you're not guaranteed to run removal in your deck. My last arena run way awful (1 epic 3 rares, 0 aoe 0 removal in draft), and I thought i could win more than 2 games unless enemies pulled illidan/king crush on me which was not pleasant experience at all.
How about putting pseudo-rng on rarity draws, (that keeps value beetwen runs) so people will have better chance to get some love from time to time.
card games like MtG or HS have powerful cards on higher rarity items for two different reasons:
- make people buy more product
- add variance/randomness to the game
If the card powerlevel everyone has access to was always the same, the better player would always win. Which in turn would mean 95% of the player base would immediatly stop to play the game. If you want a game without variance with a huge edge towards the better player, you play chess. how many people on this forum think chess is great fun and frequently play it? 1%? Less?
And the reason is: There's not enough variance in chess. Now you're whining about too much variance in HS, but trust me, if there was none, you'd just not be playing at all.
I agree that lengendaries are better. I was fighting a mage, and we were getting close to running out of decks, both of us. They had 10 health, I had 30. we were both top decking and trading minions on the board, I had the game in the bag because I could out last my opponent... until they drew alexstraza and killed me in two turns XD
You don't need Legendaries to win, they give you an upper hand, yes, but so do many other synergies in a draft deck. Just based on this fact alone, and the ability to get to 9 wins without a legendary at all, discredits much of your point.
Hell, Pyroblast, Cult Master, Force of Nature, Mind Control, all 3 giants, and Acolyte of Pain has won me more games than Legendaries. There's so many other important factors to crafting a deck than banking on a single legendary that players often pidgeonhole themselves into this line of thinking: "this card kills me, the card is imbalanced", rather than the game as a whole.
Turtle makes a simple yet accurate point, I'll have to keep that in mind.
It does stink to get wiped out by an opponent having some super powered card you don't have, but at the same time it can be cool to get legendaries when making your arena deck. I've only played arena 3 times so far, but I finally got a legendary this weekend. I had two crummy options or Ysera. So, that made for an easy choice. However, out of the 9 games I played with that deck I only ever played Ysera once. Though it did make that win fairly easy, it still didn't make my deck super over powered or anything. All in all the arena is supposed to throw some randomness at you. I'm ok with someone's deck being luckier than mine.
I had the game in the bag because I could out last my opponent... until they drew alexstraza and killed me in two turns XD
The game is never "in the bag" until your opponent is dead.
That is actually a very good point lol. And to add on to your point, it could have been any big annoying card that got me, it was just relevant to this post that it was a Legendary. I can remember being at 3 health in another game while playing as a mage and then defeating the enemy who had 20 health, and I don't even have any legendaries.
It was very frustrating when that Alexsraza came out and rained on my parade, but I appreciate your perspective of not being defeated until your dead.
Sure some legendaries are absolute monsters getting something like ragnaros or Ysera on your draft will result winning you at least some games. I have had ragnaros 2 times now in arena draft and both times I ended up winning 4-5 games with ragnaros. That said might have won those games anyways, but ragnaros surely helped a lot.
As for legendaries being there in the first place.. I don't think it's too bad compared to if you get a lot of epics and rares that are good, which seems to happen more than getting legendaries for me. Those decks you just glance and know you are going to end up at 9 wins unless you get lucked down by some freak of nature ^^
Learn to pick silences and removal higher in your list, and you'll be fine.
EDIT: also, I have won countless games to my opponent using Hex on a turn 4 shieldmasta. If it's your one Hex in the deck and you burn it this early, then it's on you to die to my Tirion or Deathwing later on, isn't it?
Legendary losses are perhaps more memorable because of the nature of the card. But I'm sure you've lost many more games to other cards and card combinations than to just legendary wins.
The legendaries add some flavor that adds another level of interest and fun for me, especially in arena. I think they're fun and really cool to pick up when they do the gamechanging thing. Sure they can seem overpowered, bust as others have mentioned there are plenty of other cards that will seem overpowered in a situation. Sometimes you draw the legendary that is also utterly useless to the situation too so i think they're fine.
I've been on the other side of the coin as well, losing to legendaries. I think it's fine that others get to use them too and get that epic win that makes their day. It can be frustrating but then I remember that I've had similar wins so it's fine.

Any thoughts?
The correct way to approach this problem would be to see if those that draft legendaries in the arena has a much larger chance of winning. Anything else would be "cherry picking the data" or "anecdotal evidence."
Either way, I don't think blizzard is ignoring this potential problem, and they will adjust if needed.

Sylvanas only works with charge so you being unable to play her well doesn't change the card's potential.

Piloted Shredder, Knife Juggler, Mad Scientist, Dr. Boom
Need to be removed from this game

You do realize 5% chance means every arena draft has 1 legendary on average?

You're not going crazy, I edit 2~3 times each post
Did pretty well yesterday with no Legendaries, drafting a Big Game Hunter plus a couple Ancient Brewmasters does wonders

Legendaries are strong but not broken.
