I just wonder some times about the other guys--you know, the ones that lose so we can win. I'm kind of worried that they will stop playing and only the good arena players will be left. If this happens, I won't be able to play arena non-stop anymore. No one will. Can you imagine what it would be like to be happy with a 3 win? I can't. I get annoyed when I get a 5 or 6 win.
If (when) the bad players quit playing or get better, I'll have to pay for runs. Runs that will end on a low note because my win average will be way down. I have no problem losing--I'd be happy with a 50% win ratio if the game is fun. The problem with a 50% win ratio in arena is the game becomes unplayable: paying for multiple runs per day would add up FAST.
As a free-to play player, I've been thinking that I might have to "retire" from arena eventually. I guess I'm kind of planing for that, but it just makes you wonder about the long term viability of arena: when most people are good, will you be happy with bad rewards when 9 wins used to be easy? Will Blizzard be force to lower the cost of entry if people stop playing arena?
I've retired from the arena myself, sort of because of what you said. After tons of runs, 8/3 is as far as I've got, and it was only once.
Am I a bad player? Honestly, I don't think so. I'm probably not top-tier material, and I probably deserved some of those losses, but I just consider myself to be an extremely unlucky player when it comes to drafts. I mean, I counted the amounts of Paladin runs I've had: 5. 5 runs. Not even ONCE I drafted Consecration, and from an odd of 150 cards (5 runs), only 1 Truesilver Champion ever showed up. Same deal when I draft as a Mage, pretty much the only spells that show up are Mirror Image, Arcane Missiles, Arcane Explosion, and the occasional Frostbolt/Fireball. Flamestrike? Psh, apparently the arena thinks I won't need that. However, I seem to always find my way into battle against priests with 3 Holy Nova and/or 3 Mind Control, for some reason.
Same goes for minions. I swear, I've never drafted Defender of Argus in all of my runs. Why is that? Out of all my runs, only once I got a legendary draft, and the choice was between Nat Pagle, Gruul or Nozdormu...
So yeah, my own luck (or lack of) kind of got me out of the arena for good. It's not exactly what you're saying (at least I don't think so), but it's kinda similar, since I've got tired of losing as well.
I'm not a huge arena guy just because I like to craft a deck and then tweak it here and there as I find weak spots. If closed beta goes to long there could be a drop in bad players in arena since the first one is free, but as soon as it hits open beta it's going to be a field day for the good arena players for awhile. After that you have to consider that it's going to be free to play upon release so there will be a flood of new players on release and then it may slow down to a trickle after the first few months.
The class aspect of the game throws such a wildly random twist on drafting. Not sure if it's for better or for worse in the long run, but it definitely puts a learning curve and a lot more luck on top of an already random format.
No, I don't, if it worked like you said, League of Legends would run out of players fast.
Hearthstone, like every other game has a cycle of new players and batches of new players every day, so, you have four categories: 1) The pros 2) The noobs that become pros 3) The noobs that quit and 4) The new batch of noobs that will be categorized in groups 2 or 3, so the game is always filled with groups 1 and 4. Just pray that you're always in group 1 and never fall into 3.
There's also groups 5 and 6 which are rare, the casual players that don't give a crap (rare at the arena, common in constructed) and people that are bad, will always be bad, and still find the will to try hard competitively and still fail, I have no idea what drives them tho.
I'm hoping they will lower the cost of arena (or raise the rewards). I've gotten grandmaster twice in 5 (maybe 6 I forget) runs, but I know that won't last forever once people start getting the hang of arena picking :P

I actually thought about stuff like that a long time ago when played WoW Arenas, StarCraft, and even MTG drafting, but TBH it seems like new players enter games fast/often enough that it's not that unreasonable to stay at the higher end for a very long time. Maybe like 10+ years later when the game is *that* old where new players don't start playing at all... But honestly, I don't see it as an issue in HearthStone for a very long time.

The draft format needs to change if they want to keep players interested.

RNG is a crutch players use when they don't wish to acknowledge their own shortcomings. Own your losses folks, it'll only make you better
Did you read anything I said? How many times did any of that happen to you?
RNG is sort of an issue, if it's not for you, good for you I guess.
Works for everything in life.
