Do you think that a week long Tavern Brawl with only basic cards would be fun for the challenge of deck building within those constraints? New players could play with no disadvantage except unfamiliarity. It would be like communist week... yippy celebrate your sameness.
Would be good fun for a week methinks. Actually favours deck building and playing skills unlike current meta :-p Plus you'd get to experience cards never seen today (outside Arena).
I think that it would be fun for a very short time. I think a week would be enough time to get that deck building urge out and then people would be ready for the next new thing.
I'm not too sure if a all basic cards would be a good idea based on the limited options. However if they were to do something like this I would mind a brawl in which you start of with basic cards, but as you draw the next card you get three options (like discover). Those choices could be:
1) Keep the card
2) Change the card into a random minion of the same cost (within that class & neutral cards)
3) Change the card into a random spell of the same cost (within that class)

I think it would be boring, since there ain't many decks you could build.
Mage would be the most powerful here methinks, with access to fireball and frostbolt etc.

3 hours until everyone is playing the exact same mage deck.

You would only then have to worry about cards that cost up to six mana, so players wouldn't have to deal with, for example, Firelands Portal, Lay on Hands or Call of the Wild.
However all said, I do think we need something on the lines of using basic cards for at least one week in tavern brawl.
