So, I've been playing Hearthstone for quite some time, and I used to play it a lot, back before I had a full time job, and adulting to do in my life, I played the heck out of it. I wasn't particularly good, back then. I did a lot of reading on Arena, and watched a lot of streams to get better. I have been playing MTG for 20 years, so the concepts were familiar to me, board control, card advantage, the resource management, all of those things I have always had down, but it took me quite a while to figure out Arena. Eventually, after playing Arena for long enough, I slowly built up a collection of cards, and I branched into Constructed. I have a strong preference for constructed, as it's more of an "at home" feeling for me having come from Magic.
That being said, I am now working 40-60 hours a week, and I only have a few hours a night or so to dedicate to gaming these days. Which has led me to prioritize games like Hearthstone where there isn't a lot of farming involved. Games like Diablo III have fallen by the wayside for me for now, and so with so much more of my attention put back on Hearthstone again, I have taken a much higher interest in climbing ladder. So my question for you fine folks at Hearthpwn is this: What do you climb with?
Many of the decks I see people post about say things like "X% win rate from Rank 5 to Legend", or things along those lines. But nobody ever seems to mention what they use to rank up to rank 5 to begin with. Now, like all of you, I have my favorite cards/classes/decks. But I'm also aware that not all of them are particularly well-suited for the ladder. From what I have seen thus far, it feels like playing Aggro on the ladder makes the most sense. The games don't last long (which goes well with players with limited time), win streaks happen often, and even when you go on a slight skid, while you may lose a few stars, you aren't burning up a lot of your time.
Before Old Gods, I was having a blast with Reno Lock; but I only hit rank 11 with it, but I ran at an 81.7% win rate (tracker). I have no doubt I could have gone higher had I had more time, but with my games lasting about 15 minutes apiece rather often (a few were faster, a few were longer, but that's about average) meant that within the time I have for gaming, I didn't have the time to commit to getting anything higher.
So, what sorts of decks do you guys use for climbing relatively efficiently?
Hi. Based on Tempostrom Meta Snapshot, Aggro/Totem Shaman, Miracle Rouge and Tempo Warrior, Are Fast and high winrate decks to climb. Control based deck (N'Zoth, Reno, CW, ...) takes more time to play but have high winrate. If time matters for you, go ahead with faster decks.
At what point do you guys generally switch to the decks with the higher win rate? Is there a magic number? Does it make sense to switch to a control deck again at rank 5? Rank 3?
I usually rank with one deck all he season and never switching it. Even if i had a hard time i never gave up my plan playing with my control dragon pally. ATM i'm at 0 losses from 17 to 10 in about 3 hours. If i have the time i'll try to go on with it. Maybe i make it to get legend without a single loss in a season. Never managed to do so till now. xD
Face Shaman dude. Ever pro players are using it in the tournaments. Use it to get to rank 5. Use it to get to legend. Use it to win tournaments. One thing's for sure: if you want to play short games and win a lot, there's not many better options than face shammy.
well you already gave the answer, fast decks takes less time cuz more games can be played, slow decks (like your reno) takes lots of time to climb cuz games takes so long, but can have higher winrates. If ranking up is all you want go for fast aggro decks like zoolock, totem shaman, aggro shaman, condom pally or tempo warrior
edit: I used totem shamam
Condom pally? That's fantastic. Going to start calling it that from now on.
Agreed. There's always one aggressive deck that owns ladder. Mech Mage, then Secret Pally, now Aggro Shaman. Once you get up to rank 1 / Legend 4/5 games are against aggro shaman. It's dumb.

@theWlizard
Tempo Warrior is not exactly fast, well at least for me, a big chunk of my games go on for 15-20 turns.

I find Tempo Pirate Warrior fun to climb with. But with all the Shamans I run into, N'Zoth Paladin has become my choice.
Play shaman or zoolock. Easy wins.
Condom Pally hahahaha. That's the first time I've heard it called that.

Just go face...
Just play a deck where games are decided up to turn 10 so losing doesnt cost you like 15 minutes and you will climb these ranks in no time.
