I assume your PvP match was quite long, more than 10 rounds in total right? In the latest patch a change was introduced to mercenaries PvP where after round 10 all characters take double damage (to avoid stalemate situations in some healer vs healer endgames), which means that critical damage now hits 4x. Diablo has this ability that deals 12 damage to a character, but also make it take critical damage that turn, which means that it effectively deals 24, which again means that after round 11 it deals 48

I cleared all the other mercs and had a diablo against diablo encounter where I was above 30 health and the other diablo bellow 20 health
I got dealt 48 damage for some reason, is this a bug?
