Returning to Duels after a long break and the buckets aren't things like "Murlocs" "Discard" and so on, they're sets now. I went back and found the patch where they changed it, but I can't find any reasoning. I really liked the old way, the new way doesn't feel like I can make the same kinds of decks.
They changed how making your deck works, aswell. You can "force" buckets of expansions, by only adding certain expansions to your deck at the start. Since expansions were usually themed around 1-2 styles, you can mix, e.g. discard themed expansions, accordingly to make certain decks.
Why,I don't know either. But I assume it is easier to balance, maintain and you have less "feel bad"//"overtuned" duel decks. When you want to make a very specific deck but don't get any buckets. Just my guess, tho.
Little extra: Put in thunderbringer and you can get Buckets of the new expansion - quite funny. Discover works with the new stuff, too.
Yeah the old buckets were so much better, a lot of duels now is based on forcing the right buckets and passives, and a lot of decks were killed off because of it. For example a decent murloc shaman deck would require murlocs from many different sets to be good, and there's no murloc bucket anymore so the archetype is pointless.
I get why the passives were changed to reflect deckbuilding but it's kind of aids how you can force mummy magic flawlessly (please move this to super rare it's such a broken passive), while if you build your own custom deck you can get absolutely ruined out of your run because the game can't figure it out.
For example I started a secret reno run and got offered mummy magic, deathly death and brittle bones - none of which do anything for my deck. There wasn't a single deathrattle minion in my whole deck.

It was some time ago. And yes, they were much better before. Now its 1 card per bucket is useful. 2 If you get lucky. No idea why they changed them.

I heard it was to eliminate manual/employee curation of buckets. Forget where I heard that though.
Its easier on devs. Thou its still possible to get some broken runs just based on a treasures alone. Won my 1st 12-2 run other day in this new patch.
