It is fast for farming gold and it makes sense that people with little gold can update to aggro shaman also if they did have dust they would be more likely not to spend it on an aggro/face deck because they already have one.
I use it to quickly achieve my daily quests...and #2 is just an opinion, not a fact. You might not have fun playing it, but other players do.
Face hunter is an archetype loaded with combos; because it is control based, it offers a lot of opportunity to play unique cards around a solid shell of a deck. This is appealing and enjoyable to a certain demographic of Hearthstone's players...but it can be frustrating to play against, especially when trying decks that are mid-late game winners. Working with meta and figuring out ways to demolish decks like face hunter is a key part of experiencing hearthstone competitively, and can drive you to better deck building.
Fret not! Meta will change soon, and a new deck will be king, but until then, try more Hyper-Aggro Rogue, Combo Druid, Taunt Warrior, or Dragon Priest decks if you wanna smash Face Hunters in the, well....Face.
Because some prefer consistent victories over enjoying the game for fun; unless Face Hunter is the only archetype they prefer.
It might not be fun for you, but remember, people have different tastes. Just as accurate you are with many playing it just to rank up ladder; there are some who actually enjoy Face Hunter as it is. And like you said, its not as dominate as it was before LOE, so I really see no problem.
Druid needs more low cost damaging spells. At least half of the dmg type spells are 5+ mana. that and some more spell damage Druid specific minions wouldn't hurt. Jungle Moonkin is definitely a step in the right direction. Unless you come up against a Mage. Then just hold on to your lug nuts cause its TIME FOR AN OVERHAUL!

That's how the Druid Archetype Decks were intended when being designed and created. Same reason why Hunters have more lower-costing cards than higher costing cards.
Druids were given a couple 1-mana costing spells which were intentionally designed to be situational and not as strong as other 1-mana costing cards other classes have.
Why do you guys think that players choose to play Face Hunter in casual play?
#1 Face Hunter is fairly weak in this new LOE Meta.
#2 Face Hunter is just plain not fun to play. Most people only use it to grind their way up the ladder.
#3: fast games, to complete quests.
#4: test if face hunter can be played with some tweaks (related to #1)
NOTE: #2 in casual you cannot rank, so it's invalid. And it's pretty weak in the actual meta.
I did today. Don't get me wrong, I hate playing it, but I had the play 30 1-2 drops and win 5 druid/hunter.
I never that of using Face Hunter to bang out quests. Good catch Elias!

Also maybe it is fun for them
Haha. True, The drop 30 minions quest is definitely best suited to Face Hunter.

I actually was testing out my brand new Spell Damage Druid Deck in casual when I stumbled upon the strange Face Hunter occurrence.
Even though I obliterated him. I can officially tell you that Spell Damage Druid is not ready yet. It's just soooooo slow.
What does it need to make it better, out of curiosity? (Druid decks wreck face hunter...i usually just forfeit if I come across them haha)
