I don't want this to sound salty, but only opening 1 of each of 3 packs that will be rotating sounds weird. I don't know if you all remember last year, but we got 21 packs + last year before witchwood. I was hoping that blizzard would have released such news already (who knows they might announce it soon), but I somehow have my doubts.
Is it wrong for me to question their lack of events or do I have rose-tinted glasses while I remember last year's rotation?
Who knows man, them not giving a free hero this year is part of this. They still haven’t announced whether people will even get a free login legendary yet.
I think they plan on selling some mammoth year wild bundles and don’t want to give away too much. Seems to be the simplest explanation here. Last year they were pretty much ignoring Wild entirely so why not give away free packs was their mentality then.
Lol, go check out the latest news regarding Activision. They are all about profits since Q3 2018 and will continue to target high profit margins to the near future. They partways with Bungie/Destiny 2 because of not enough micro transactions, fired employees to maintain high profitability... FREE doesn't give them any money.
Sadly the days of freebies from HS is now gone, along with the original devs.

You say that as if it is a bad thing. Activision is not a non profit company. Specifically, they are a C-Corp, which means they have one and only one obligation - to make money for their shareholders. Capitalism works. By living in a capitalist company, I make enough $$$ to buy all the packs I want instead of begging for handouts. And you are delusional if you think the devs have anything to do with the pricing of the game.

Being stingy with rewards for active players also keep retention and people coming back. The news is seriously pushing me from using real money in hearthstone right now... I will continue playing, but for the foreseeable future I'm going to play and use gold.

Yes, but that is a business decision that the business gets to decide. Those decisions are made by people who are trying to maximize profit for shareholders. The method by which products are monetized, how much they cost, what promotions exist, etc, are made by people OTHER than the game developers. That is how a real company works.

I never said that I wasn't paying because of game developers but instead of the limitations put inplace upon them by the business as well as the pricing options.

They also made they're tournaments (the ones that give you money) in the USA and they're not paying flights/hotel. And they're not streaming the event so what's the point of not making the tournament online? Or in venues like they use to? Because it costs money.
