Background of the deck
So I opened a pack a while back and out popped a golden Soggoth, initially i considered dusting it because there were so many other cards i'd like and I couldn't see this getting much use. However I loved the mechanics of the card and after having a sit down and a think, I thought I could actually create a deck that would work especially well in. Along comes Soggoth control!

Card Choices
- Execute
- Staple card for almost all warrior decks, try to use it in conjunction with revenge to save minions / face damage.
- Shield Slam
- Another staple card for all control warrior decks. If possible, hold off on this until you see a big threat your going to struggle to remove.
- Fiery War Axe
- GG!
- Revenge
- Now this card costs the 2 mana instead of the 1 of a whirlwind however it offers the sometimes imperative full totem board clear against totem shamans which the ladder is currently full of. It can be used in conjunction with the acolyte / execute / bloodhoof, its rare you will want to use this card on its own.
- Armorsmith
- The 1 attack this minion offers is almost always underated, there will be countless times in the time you play HS, where you find yourself 1 armor short of a sheild slam, 1 hp short of revenge killing or no minion to inflict damage to allow for an execute. Not to mention the fact getting 2 of these on the board with a bloodhoof and acolyte combined with a revenge is just so incredibly strong!
- Bash
- Targets those pesky minions that you know can grow or spit out sustained damage. Top targets are troggs, jugglers, flame imps and mana wyrms!
- Shield Block
- Try to save this for either A) When you desperately need a new answer to the board or B) play it on the same turn your shield slamming. This card + sly + shield slam can be played on the same turn, sometimes stealing raggs, c'thuns etc etc. Be conservative with it!
- Acolyte of card draw
- We only run a single acolyte but i've really found this to be enough providing your judicious with your removals and more importantly, your revenges. We must always get 2 cards from this little dude!
- Ravaging Ghoul
- Incredibly powerful against zoo and also in conjunction with revenge vs those horrible shamans :D
- Bloodhoof
- One of the standout cards from the expansion for me, not even just for warriors. Very chunky who can also proc to be a royal pain in the ass! Combo him with ghoul / revenge for the dream :D
- Elise Legendseeker
- Actually a really nice body and of course offers you a second road to victory!
- Brawl
- Understanding when to brawl and when not to is perhaps the secret to taking this deck to legend. Sometimes holding off and taking 10 to the face is actually going to win you the game!
- Harrison
- I think he has to be a stable in any control orientated decks just now. Fantastic card draw and arguably one of the biggest tempo swings available for such little mana.
- Justicar Trueheart
- Knowing when to drop justicar can take some time to learn and play at the opportune moment. Always try to think about how your opponent intends to remove it, whats on the board and if your playing her at turn 10, always armor first! :D
- Sylvanas Windrunner
- Perhaps the superstar of the current meta. I have won so many games because of this one card alone, throwing her down prior to a proceeding brawl turn is just huge, almost as huge as stealing a rag from a self inflicted shield slam!
- Gorehowl
- Try to bait out harrison with a fiery waraxe turn prior to dropping gorehowl and also be very weary of taking too much damage to the fact. A lot of decks now have ways of blowing 10+ damage out of nowhere on a single turn.
- Baron Geddon
- Probably one of the most impactful cards available in the current meta. There are so many ways to set boards up to be completely crushed by a well timed geddon. Be mindful that he does strip your armor down too!
- Grommash Hellscream
- I have found myself using this as a board clear far more than i have as a finisher. Getting a 2 for 1 on gromm I think is always achievable, be careful with his life total though. Smacking him headfirst into an azure drake might feel good, but it leaves him in range of lots of removals!
- Ragnaros the firelord
- This guy, while mighty and wonderful can be such a challenge to play at the right spot. He is a great minion remover but an even better way of applying real face pressure. He is a guaranteed 8 damage, regardless of everything!
- Soggoth the Slitherter
- I actually cant beleive how many times this card has saved my ass on the way to legend. It is now by far and away my favorite control card and I'm astonished its taken me so long to realise. He cannot be hexed, he cannot be fireballed, he cannot be soulfired - he cannot be stopped! :D

With the updates you can dust old cards that used to be soulbound from adventures/expansions.
I like how there are 5 replies yet nobody answered OP's question:
Hard to say OP...
Elise Starseeker is used to generate value in control/fatigue matchups when you want to avoid card draw or when you are in need of significant threats in the late game. Perhaps putting Emperor Thaurissan in instead is viable. We have more than enough tools here to deal with aggro but I'm seeing a shit load of Cthun d ecks right now and we have no way to avoid Doomcaller. Her battlecry is unique.
Me and some friends tested this deck. I played every deck that played against it. Results as followed...
Your deck lost to every rogue I threw at it 2x times. Lost to 2 different priest builds, Lost to shaman every time, even lost to c'thun druid. Tearing apart this deck is pretty simple and its lack of board on 3 is one of the crux to its defeat. You either run out of options or are so far behind that only a brawl can save you. Your guide does not state hold brawl and we followed it to the T. All those testing said deck are legend ranked and 2 are on a pro esports team.....This is a great casual deck but has neither the consistency or viability to survive upper level play on ladder.
Suggestion add in MONKEY
Hello brother,
Well first and foremost, thank you to you and your friends for taking the time to look at the deck. I cannot refute your findings, but I can only offer you my own findings. I really have no idea how this deck losses to Shaman, especially every time. I have lost to 4 shamans in the entire time I've been playing it, it really is a free win. It could be that your friends are incredibly proficient at shaman and have found a way to beat it, but I really cannot see how. I do find it difficult to believe that your also losing to rogue every time but as I said, you and your friends are perhaps on a different level to the majority of this sites userbase. (meaning you guys are professional and 99% of the players here are not)
I will certainly give your monkey suggestion a whirl and see how it improves my winrate :)
I'm guessing none of your amazing friends know how to play control warrior! Apart from Soggoth this is pretty standard tried and tested deck that has been top tier forever.
actually I was the one playing the rogue that defeated this deck everytime....I leave it to the pros to play I just try to defeat it. So if I can tear it apart while some one who is a much more skilled player is piloting it, what does that say?
Did not read...I was not playing the deck. I was playing the other decks. Me coming in here and saying hey I lost with your deck is one thing that can be countered with "Get Gud Scrub". So I reveresed the testing process. Put the deck in skilled players hands and then tried to beat them. I was able to beat this deck using most of the decks you list as a favorable match up, over 60%. I will say that part of the reason for this is I know how this deck is meant to work and am able to deal with it. In the rogue match Soggoth never once hit the hand, so there was little to stop the combo's. In case of C'thun druid Not having really any answers till turn 4 allowed me to just gain so much early control that even with Justicar it was not enough to stop 38 damage on turn 14. As for professional. 2 of these guys were the others are legend ranked players. I am but a manager.
Again I know control warrior its been one of the most successful decks for me every season. Not getting a war axe in opening has always been a huge problem, but the death's bite, shield maiden, sludge belcher, and Justicar made up for this rather nicely. Now you only have one of those and you have replaced the rest with an aoe 3 drop minion that you will want to combo and bloodhoof. These are great choices but again I always look at how one recovers from horrible openings. We found in those rather common scenarios the deck was falling short.
And you will downvote this cause you can not argue against it because you cant. Deck is simple to counter and statements such as free win are misleading. But please keep promoting the deck I love my "Free wins" from those who play it. :D Cheers
soooo.... he just made friendly matches between friends .... 100% legit for sure and no arguments are lacking foundation
Is Blood To Ichor worth running in this deck? In other words why is it not there?
Maybe I'm just playing/drawing poorly but it feels like this deck really lacks a lot of card cycle. Feels like without stuff like Battle Rage or Slam to help cycle the deck, I often end out burning my hand. Perhaps I'm playing it wrong and I'm trying to play on curve when I should just armor up and pass turn?
Hello brother,
I can understand that feeling, though I cannot honestly say its something I have experienced too much. There have certainly been occasions where I've been very low on cards but its nearly always because I've invested so heavily in stalling my opponent then playing from the deck (which is full of so many good cards) What I will re-iterate though, is the importance of drawing 2 cards from acolyte, it can make such a huge difference!
I dont have Gorehowl so I put in Malkorok, just wanted to ask anyone's opinion and see if the switch is viable
Makes sense: 7 mana and gives you a weapon, plus another body on the board. You're less likely to have the 7 damage right away, but I don't know how often you'd need it. Only other replacement I would think of is Arcanite Reaper, if you find yourself more consistently needing a decent swing of damage right away that Malkorok doesn't consistently give.
Hello brother,
I think Malkorok for Gorehowl is an acceptable trade! It adds a little variance with the potential cursed blade outcome but it does add a body to the board :) Good luck with it!
Replacement for Harrison Jones?
I made a soggoth control extremely similar to this (taskmasters, ysera instead of rag, another acolyte) and it was doing so well especially with soggoth that i thought i might go on to hearthpwn to see if there is anything similar(hoping i had found a good deck myself). Then i found this kinda made me sad :( people have to catch on eventually.
Don't know what I am doing wrong. I see myself as a not too bad player, always getting to sub rank 10 just for the chest with ease. This deck however I'm 0-7 at the moment at rank 17, sigh :(
hi brother
ahhh i'm sorry to hear this - what kind of problems are you encountering?
Hey there. Am 1-10 atm just won vs priest lol.
Others opponents that gave me problems was aggro shaman, tempo rogue, divine shield paladin and spell mage. I don't have soggoth yet, wanted to play the deck first and see how things go before deciding to craft him. It feels I'm either dead by turn 7 or control just has all the answers for my big threats and I run out of steam. Had a very close game vs reno lock but just could not get that last bit of damage out for the finisher (even after reno + jarraxus). For 3 turns an enrage grommash would of won.
My last game I replaced ravaging ghoul with cruel task master. I hardly ever get use out of the ghoul and the 3 mana feels awkward most of the time.
Tried doomsayer and abomination, not sure what else could be a better replacement for soggoth.
Wonder if the variety of decks at 15+ rank could be the issue also?
Don't get me wrong, I think this deck has real potential and want to make it work :D
Sorry for the wall of text.
