This is Gaara's hunter deck that was used to win Dreamhack in Bucharest 2014.
The deck is now 100% known, and it is stated that he worked with Kolento to make his #1 NA/EU hunter deck, and thus is very similar in its fashion. Some marque differences between the two decks was the inclusion of an explosive trap that actually saved the win in Game 3 of the finals.
Main differences between Kolento's #1 US/EU Hunter is the inclusion of one Eaglehorn bow, and one Explosive Trap!
edit: wow wrong tab, wrong class
Nice deck with nice answers gratz gaara
Whats new in this hunter deck other than exact same copy of others?!
Switching Dire Wolf Alpha for Explosive Trap can be super clutch at the right moment. Wolf could end a close game by a couple points, while trap could turn around a certain loss.
I totally agree with you, I think the card selection between them depends on what decks are being played in the rank you are placed. if you are in a rank full of aggro decks you would prefer using Explosive Trap, while if are in a rank full of control decks you would prefer playing Direwolf
I've replaced all of my explosive traps with Dire Wolf as well because Hounds or Snakes can easily make up that 2 damage and more if there are timber wolves involved. The Hound or Snakes /Buzzard super draw combo requires your opponent to have a butt-ton of creatures, and even though Explosive Trap is amazing, it directly counters this combo.
Why am I not seeing more Snake Traps being used? It isn't as good as Hounds but it can be a priceless 4 drop if combined with buzzards. It is reliant on an opponent attacking a minion though.
No one in higher ranked play will fall for that. They will bait out your trap.
Higher ranked players won't fall for much anything. This game is by no means as huge as or complex as mtg, and figuring out the contents of a well-ranked class' deck is not a difficult thing to do, which is why them not falling for it is pretty irrelevant. All classes have staple cards. If i'm in a high ranked game and I see a hunter lay a trap, i can usually safely assume that all my creatures will be 2 dealt damage, or the attacking minion is sent back to his hand. It would be absurd for a hunter deck to not include the buzzard/hound combo. I don't think it's much of a secret that the buzzard/hound is one of the best draw combos in the game.
Leeroy is probably in there.
Unlikely since Kolento hasn't used one in this deck for a while. Leeroy is a combo finisher, and this deck doesn't need it. If you notice, there's not a single card that needs to be held onto for very long. If you need to hound for early removal or draw, Leeroy becomes a dead inflexible card. He's bad as removal, since you give your opponent 2 minions that need to be dealt with, and 6 damage for 4 mana from a single source isn't great with this deck.
Kolento orginally swore by king mukla he never used leeroy. SAVJ and Life coach pretty much ripped his deck card for card replacing mukla with leeroy. And considering that deck is now plaguing every tournament .
You will not find a tournament deck that doesn't run this version of Hunter in it now and they all run leeroy. I have a hard time believing that he didn't run it too. With the exception of Explosive Trap.
What about changing Stampeding Kodo to Thundra Rhino?? I think Rhino has better synergy with the rest of the deck...
Which are the reasons to chose Kodo over Rhino?
I wouldn't use flare. Not enough secrets played in this meta. Can't tell you enough how amazing the Oasis Snapjaw-Houndmaster combo is. Decks like this are vulnerable to the face so an explosive trap and Oasis combo can solve this.
I think Flare is used as much for its card draw/deck thinning as it is for the Secret removal.
It requires 8 mana total though, which is not enough to convince me to add 2 more 4 drops into my deck.
this deck is insane nice!!!
Finally someone else gets it. 1 explosive trap is huge
Nice deck, works very smooth. Thumbs up.
