Hello guys, I'm BoomX9, 12 times legend player, you might know me from my murloc warlock deck I posted a while ago. This is my new deck - giant paladin.
Let's talk about the card choices:
Equality - One of the most efficient removal cards in the whole game, especially when used with pyromancer or consecration.
Holy Light - As you can probably see the deck is really slow, so you need as much cheap healing as you can fit, also it activates pyromancer's effect, which is a really important in aggro match-ups
Sunfury Protector - Twilight Drake, Mountain Giant, Molten Giant - Perfect minions to taunt up, this card can win you more games than any other card in this deck.
Wild Pyromancer - Clears whole board in combination with Equality. Turns out 4 mana twisting nether is pretty good.
Aldor Peacekeeper - As it rurns out Dr. Boom is in every deck.
Big game hunter - Did i mention Dr. Boom?
Truesilver Champion - 8 damage, 4 Health, can kill 2 minions. Also let's you not fall behind that much.
Consecration - With that many paladins 2 mana AoE is really good, also works great with equality.
Keeper of Uldaman - Helps you remove stuff, sometimes you can buff one of your tokens to trade favorably. Not good enough to play 2.
Twilight Drake - You are not going to play anything before turn 3 anyway, so it's huge.
Antique Healbot - 8 more health.
Sylvanas Windrunner - Just a great value card overall, makes your opponent play inefficiently.
Guardian of Kings - 12 more health, just relax, they're not going to kill you.
Lay on Hands - And 16 more health, at this point you can feel like a heroic adventure boss. Also it makes you draw cards, so it's really good.
Ragnaros, the Firelord - Really big minion, opponent has to kill it, also a good card to finish your opponent.
Alexstrasza - So yeah... if you for some reason are out of healing, here is some more + You can kill your opponent in one turn with alexstrasza and a few big minions.
Mountain Giant - You are playing very slowly, so Mountain Giant is often really cheap.
Molten Giant - Well what can I say? Molten giant has a perfect synergy with alexstrasza, holy light, healbot, guardian of kings and lay on hands. Play it, taunt it, heal yourself... Yeah, it's not bad.I will make a full guide + mulligans if this deck hits 30 upvotes. And here is the guide.
So let's start with a mulligan guide:
Mulligans are pretty simple when it comes to this deck - you want to keep Aldor Peacekeeper, Twilight Drake and Truesilver Champion in every match up, also if you are playing against an aggresive deck you may consider keeping Wild Pyromancer, Holy Light, and in very specific match ups (that being patron warrior for example) you want to have an equality and Wild Pyromancer and/or Consecration in your starting hand.
Gameplan:
You need to remember, that you aren't the aggresor. Your gameplan is very passive. You are almost never the one applying the pressure, so you need to think a few turns ahead.
Some of you may wonder why do you always keep twilight drake - you do it because you dont have anything that you want to play before turn 4, so drake is a really big threat. Also you shouldn't be too greedy with how you use your equality, if you have to use it to trade favorably, just do it, you don't have to wait until you see some huge minions on the other side of the board, because that can lose you the game. Use your healing whenever you get value off of it - you run so much of it. Also some people say that they are losing against freeze mage - i disagree with that - dont try to be aggresive, just play slowly, sometimes even to the fatigue and outheal them, save your equality/cons for antonidas and emperor, as these are the biggest threats in this match up.
Could I sub a card for Tirion Fordring?
Maybe a Guardian of kings?
All the people who are shitting on this deck either haven't actually played it or aren't playing it correctly. I'm laddering up the ranks so fast with it. I don't have Ragnaros so I slotted in Tirion instead with great results. Good luck!
no tirion or boom eh?
I also think lay on hands is a pretty terrible card, without that much removal in the deck... taking off turns 8 9 or 10 to gain 8 life and draw cards likely means you aren't clearing the board of what they played on the previous turn and are probably going to take more damage than you gained. drawing 3 cards is nice, but not if you just die before you can cast them. Ive tried several times to make decks with that card and I just simply cant ever find a chance to cast it and not just get smashed the next turn.
Frost Giant looks interesting in this deck, isn't it?
Faced this deck for the first time ever today, killed him by turn 8... Well Met indeed.
The deck is weak and has no back bone to work off of to keep you in the game long enough to actually work.. ALL aggro decks wreck this by turn 8
Honestly, why not just replace a Lay on Hands the marvelous Sir Finley Mrrgglton and allow for both a bit of early game tempo and a lot of the time, card draw? Seems valid enough as a substitute. In the case you already hit late game try going for some healing (though it doesn't combo as well with the Moltens. I would say I bring up a valid point. ;P
Actually, drawing Sir Finley Mrrgglton is closer to 16% of the time within the first five draws I'm fairly sure. This thus makes it somewhat viable as you can generally draw it early game, and again, if you don't get him early, you can use him for healing late game instead to make up for the second Lay on Hands. :P
Actually, the chance of drawing Sir Finley Mrrgglton is closer to about 16% within your first five draws (or two turns) thus meaning that you will usually draw him early game, especially if you mulligan for him. That being said, if you do draw him late game you can always use him for healing/armor to make up for that second Lay on Hands. :P
the good old molten-holy wrath paladin is strictly better than this deck, trying to act as a handlock without having warlock hero power doesnt work. It's still nice to see people try to build new deck in 2016, a thumb up for the effort is well deserved anyways.
nice deck! I did only play 2 games yet and crushed an aggrodruid and a control/elise Warrior who had over 60 life temporary.
I just had to switch one Lay on Hands for Tirion Fordring and he was my lifesaver in the aggro matchup. Anyway thanks for sharing, I'm definitely going to play some more games with this deck :)
Hi, kiwiiNbacon.
I have to say that after playing a few games with this deck , It is very different from what we see on the ladder usually. It is very interesting to play. The idea is very fun and Im pretty sure something similar could be played in the standard game mode in the future.
Really loved it and I didnt get lucky at all in the first game XD
i see you're rank 4 in the screenshot but which ranks did you advance through with this deck?
Fun deck! Refreshing to have a different Paly list. Thanks man!
no holy wrath waste of time
This used to be my jam back before Naxx. I loved this deck
I experienced that the mountain giants see no play. Should I replace them?
To a certain degree you would play like a handlock player, preferably in control matchups you would keep a Mountain Giant. I would guess if this happens often for you then swap one out for like a Zombie Chow or even a Holy Wrath
I will try this deck, but one question, why Ragnaros instead of Tirion Fording?
Cheers!
