Replacement for Sabotage?
You had lethal at 10 mana, malygos, eviscerate, prep, blade flurry and all at the field.
why Violet Teacher over Big Game Hunter ?
I only record the changes the few times JJ plays Malygos Rogue now, but Violet Teacher is just a very strong card for Rogue in general when not against Patrons or UTH, maybe he felt it was more important compared to the BGH tech against Boom or Giants. He did switch it out pretty fast though, so there's that.
Hi, great deck.
I just happen to get a Malygos and have always wanted to give it a try.
Will you guys recommend replacing Gnomish Inventor with Harrison Jones to improve the card draw and could be more competitive with warriors and, of course, Oil rogues?
Also, would it be better to play a shredder for more mid range tempo?
It's not bad but it messes the curve alittle, if you want Harrison I'll recommend replacing Healbot.
It's definitely fine, the MrYagut's list I linked below ran 2 Shredders infact.
Played a couple of games with it and it is a lot of fun when it works. I (still) don't have a second Preparation. I substituted Edwin VanCleef and he can get to be pretty intimidating with all the low cost spells in this deck.
Best practice: Try to hold onto Preparation for the turn you play Malygos. This gives you the ability to do things like Sinister Strike for 8 damage and Blade Flurry to clear his board and do damage to the face, as well.
This is a pretty solid deck. It has a lot of draw power and burst for the late game. It's also fun. Gadgetzan is a solid pick in this deck because most times you want to save at least one prep and he can help you cycle through your deck without spending one plus he's a body on the board. Can get you closer to lethal if your opponent hits into him.
Obviously the main players in this deck are Emperor and Malygos. Deck can work without Emperor, but not without Malygos. Emperor makes the burst a lot better, but without him you can still go Malygos > Sinister Strike > Prep > Evis if you want. Ideally you want to Emperor when you have Malygos or some damage dealing spell cards in your hand. Malygos is great but you really need to knock the cost down for Evis, Sinister, Shiv, or Blade Flurry.
Some downsides to the deck. It's probably not that great against Face Hunter. The deck takes longer to reach its win-condition than Oil Rogue does so I suggest practicing with this deck a bit. It's probably tougher than Oil, which is already tough to play, but it isn't weak to taunts and its fun having some crazy Malygos turns.
In my opinion this deck lacks real board control.
How could I replace Thaurissan?
I'm not SuperJJ but personally I would play another deck if I don't have Thaurissan (like maybe Oil Rogue), it's way too important for Malygos builds. I guess a Loatheb or Edwin is fine, a 2nd Earthen Ring Farseer if you're on a budget. Then I would change the Gnomish Inventors for Piloted Shredders also, as your deck is more midrange than combo now.
Should I just spare 700 gold for thaurissan? I mainly play rogue, already have Oil, and wanted to try some Malygos shenanigans since free brawl pack gave me option to :p
Thaurissan is fantastic for combo decks like this one, other Malygos decks (such as Maly Warlock) and Freeze Mage. It also works in Druids. It's honestly just a solid legendary to have, I would definitely recommend you save that gold!
Thanks!
MrYagut (another top EU Rogue) swapped a FoK for Edwin in his list. http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/261896-mryaguts-malygos-rogue
card draw is tooooo nice =)
This deck is pretty good!
However, is one heal bot really enough, considering you're wading through a sea of Dr. Boom's and Tempo Mages and Face Hunters these days. (At least that's the case around lvl 10ish).
I'm tempted to run 2 Heal bots and 2 Big Game Hunters in place of Gnomes and either replace a Shiv or replace Earthen Ring Farseer.
I was running a version that replaced 1x Shiv with Autobarber, Earthen Ring Farseer with Dr. Boom, and Gnomish Inventors with Piloted Shredders. That version was amazing versus control, Druid, and Grim Patron Warrior, but lost 70% against aggro and was an auto-lose versus Hunter.
I switched to Superjj's deck (this build) and have been doing better, but Handlock is a real nightmare without Oil + Blade Flurry to clear out giants. You usually have to stall that match-up out for turn 9 Malygos + setup Poisoned weapon charge + prep + blade flurry. It seems ridiculous to rely on this combo, but it actually happens a lot, but if they time loatheb correctly for this turn you're screwed. Period.
I feel Gnomish Inventors are a bit much for draw. Many times you need to drop something that doesn't cycle so you don't burn your next draw and Gnomish + Drakes = worst case scenario where you want to play a minion, but have to blow spells instead or risk burning Malygos.
