Maloriak annoyed me pretty hard, so I decided to use some cheap tricks on him.
This deck abuses the AI bug with Kel'Thuzad and Taunt minions:
The AI will simply not attack at all if you have Kel'Thuzad + a random Taunt minion.
Everything this deck does is stall until you can drop the absolutely imbalanced combo of Kel'Thuzad + Goldshire Footman (new meta!). Since you should be fine from there, just remove his taunts with spells/minions and happily bash his ugly face in.
Mulligan for cycle cards (Scientist, Coldlight, Arcane Intellect etc.). Usually you should throw everything else away. You CAN keep Kel'Thuzad if you want to avoid him ruining your day because he is the last card of your deck.
Do everything to mitigate damage as much as you can. Maloriak will usually ignore your stuff and go face, so you can freely play minions and hope he wastes his direct damage spells on them. Don't be afraid to use Ice Lance on a minion to save some life, you don't need it for face damage.
Things to mind:
He has 2x Imp-losion and 2x Drain Life, you want to avoid him killing your precious Goldshire Footman with those, so be sure to bait them out beforehand if possible. Be sure to drop the second Goldshire if you can to avoid such circumstances.
He also has Polymorph which he will most likely use on your Kel'Thuzad if he has the opportunity. It can be baited by any creature just like the other removal, Maloriak is stupid and spams it when he has it. Kezan Mystic is also very helpful if you manage to steal a Counterspell because it provides another failsafe against his annoying spells.
If he coins out his Aberrations on turn 1, spare yourself the annoyance and restart. It is very unlikely that you have enough time to set the combo up in this situation.
You can also use Annoy-o-Tron instead of Goldshire Footman if you want to be safe against him maybe removing your Taunt with a spell, but the Kel+Taunt combo comes one turn later with those, which can be critical.
Card Replacements:
If you don't have Bloodmage Thalnos, I would suggest replacing him with Novice Engineer to cycle some more. He is not that important. Same goes for other support cards like Kezan Mystic (although I find it useful to get his Counterspell). Unfortunately, the most expensive non-adventure card Ice Block is not easily replacable and you will need a lot more tries without it.
Good luck killing him! Pic related.
I've been trying to beat this guy for days. I swapped out Bloodmage Thalnos for Animated Armor. Finally beat him and cleared Heroic mode. Thanks!
switched Bloodmage Thalnos with Animated Armor worked really well. He just ignores it and goes face, didn't even need the combo
I did this same thing and won as well, though I did get the taunt out with Kel to make sure I'd win. Never saw his polymorph.
why are all these fights pretty much winnable by abusing a bug? they're tweaked to silly levels.
Took quite a few tries even with this deck (i probably should have made better use of kel'thuzads Resurrection to help clear) but finally got him. Thanks!
After 6-7 tries it worked as expected. Thing is, it is waaaaaaaay too dependent on RNG and may take longer for some people to get the combo.
Well It definitely worked better than the Warlock decks I tried. Unfortunately i haven't figured out a better strategy than those previously suggested, cause as you said this boss is so &*$@)($&($&@ silly that unless the 2 conditions meet, (combo on hand & a bad start on his part) it's nearly impossible to win
This sucked all around. Finally staved off the assault and got the combo up. AI glitch FTW!!!
Took 4 tries on heroic without Ice Block, Bloodmage Thalnos, or a 2nd Kezan Mystic. I subbed in 2 Novice Engineers for Thalnos and a Mystic. I also subbed in 2 Flamecannons for the Ice Blocks. Then I just got lucky draws I think.
Has anyone beat this without ice block and Thalnos? I exchanged loot hoarder for thalnos, vaporizer and echo of medivh in place of ice block. I haven't drawn echo at all and am thinking I'll remove it since I never have many minions on board at once. I also have not drawn kezan once and am wondering if it's wasting space. I am getting good draws, so it isn't that... I even got goldshire and kel once, but died the turn before I could use them together. Do I just need to keep doing what I'm doing? Or use a different deck altogether since I don't have those 3 cards? Or add specific other cards? Thanks!
Took me 3 tries. AI abusing is imba! Thanks for your deck. ;)
It really works. Thank you!
First Hearthpwn deck that's ever given me a "first try" against a heroic. I won't oversell it as I've seen many other decks that have such comments on them and I've had no luck with them, but still, definitely worth saying that it's a well formed deck, and worth more than a few attempts.
Thanks, I saw you posting this in a thread asking how to beat Maloriak. I had not yet attempted other decks, but this worked fine. It took me four tries to beat him, but at least it went quick. The first and third game was quick concedes due to no early drops on my part and Maloriak with his Abberation nonsense.
The second game I drew Kel'thuzad with the coldlight oracle just as he killed me the next round with Abberation. The fourth game he got me to 5 health when I had frost nova, two goldshire footmen, two ice barriers, one flamestrike, one ice block and a coldlight oricle in hand. His board had four imps, two abberations and one Drakonid crusher. After using frost nova and the oracle I finally drew Kel.
Played both footmen and Kel, he used drain life on my hero, but in the end he died one round before my death from fatigue
