Hey folks, mage exclusive player here.

I hate DH, but it's a fact of HS life until Blizz nerfs it. So, I'm out here trying to figure out how to go positive WR without giving up.

I have made a deck that currently is scoring 61% winrate (with a positive WR against DH as of making this post) against the current meta with Mage highlander. This deck has got me from Diamond 10 to Diamond 4 over 46 games.

I have refined it over 5 iterations, with still more room for improvement, however it's in a good spot currently in this fast growing meta.

I'm throwing this out here in the hopes of seeing people play something other than DH on ladder, as well as having people add to it or get inspired to make other decks.

Deck list as an image:

Rationale:

This deck was made to directly counteract the DH aggro build with tools to help against it's variants.

DH plays in 2 stages, before 5 mana and after 5 mana.

Before 5 Mana:

Summon small high return dudes with health no greater than 2 to gain tempo over board so the big guys can come down without resistance and maximum face damage can ensue.

After 5 Mana:

Summon large high return dudes with health greater than 5 to gain tempo over board so the enemy is dead by turn 7-9.

Deck Description:

This deck aims to force a lot of mana to go into clearing your early game dudes (2-4 drop minions) so they can make it easier for the Dormant fucker and Mrs. McFireball Everyturn to stick on board.

Most DH drop the Antaen on 5, big mistake. That's when you drop health heavy minions down on the board in the way of Malygos, Khartut, Reno and Bone Wraith (try to aim to get these on the board the turn immediately before Antaen loses dormancy).

Close out with your taunts (I'm thinking of replacing Evasive Drakonid with Bonechewer Vanguard)

Your healing is only 2 cards, Ice Barrier (You can discover an extra one with Tortollan Pilgrim) and Khartut, make the taunts count. The Kayn Sunfury should only ever be allowed to get 1 attack in before it goes down. You have 5 taunts to work with here, that's a lot of damage mitigation.

Rule of thumb: If you have lost about 15 health by turn 5-6 you're in red zone with like 90% chance to lose. If you have 20+health by turn 6-7 you're doing moderately OK, put the pressure back on the DH now.

Possible changes that you can implement:

  • Remove messenger raven for some more health or early game board contest minion.
  • Evasive Drakonid to Bonechewer Vanguard
  • Evocation is feeling less and less reliable the more I use it, good for other match ups, but feel free to tinker with this
