The nerf of Call to Arms in May hit the even paladin archetype hard, removing it's most significant aggressive play. As a fan of the archetype, I've endeavoured to use Corpsetaker as an alternative aggressive outlet, using windfury and buffs to try and dominate the mid-game. I'm not a particularly high ranked player, usually sitting around ranks 10-15 so I'd love to receive any feedback on this list from those with a little more experience, as I want to try and push a little higher in ranked with this deck.
Also, if anyone new to the archetype thinks this is interesting and wants me to give a deck breakdown just comment and I'm happy to write something up :)
Hey hey! I'm a fan of Val'anyr and as someone who had experimented with this weapon a lot, I can say this:
Tirion, Lich King, Bonemare are all bad targets for Val'anyr buff. You spend the whole turn to play them and basically leave yourself at the mercy of your opponent, because if they have poly/silence/mind control, bye-bye Val'anyr. And in case with Tirion, bye-bye Ashbringer too. The best targets in my experience are those who have rush or charge and can trade themselves with dying in the process so that you could get your weapon back.
Vicious Scalehide, Chillblade Champion, Reckless Rocketeer - they are good targets for Val'anyr. Saronite Chaingang is simply a must have for this weapon in my opinion. Also, if you have Umbra, you can do insane value combo by playing her first, then breaking Val'anyr and slamming your buffed minion on the board right away without the risk of losing your weapon. If you run her, though, it's better to limit yourself to 6-mana minions max. Cheers.
Hey thanks for the feedback man,
I see your point regarding the high-cost cards in the deck and with a little more testing I'm beginning to agree especially with Lich King. I'm less sure about Tirion as it's primary purpose is to be a solid minion to provide divine shield to Corpsetaker, which is essential against aggro. I also ran it due to the inconsistency of pulling Val’anyr (That being the reason I run Bonemare also) every game with the lack of draw available to even paladin. That being said I almost considered Argent Commander as an alternative so perhaps I’ll do a little testing with that in Tirion’s place. Tbh, I didn’t even think of Chain Gang and I definitely will try to find a spot for it. I agree that Umbra also seems sweet, I’ll keep an eye out if I pull her :)
