Wailing Caverns Mini Set - New Cards
Blizzard released the first of the new cards for Wailing Caverns. These are it for now, there will be more after the long weekend in the US! (It is Memorial Day on Monday for them, which means we can likely expect more cards no earlier than Tuesday.)

Sure Dirty Rat gives them the stats, but that's not an issue because the goal is to disrupt their combo.
The Rat is cheap so it can be played early, Mutanus can't.
The real advantage of Mutanus is removing cards from the rez pool and not triggering deathrattles. Whether that will be useful has to be seen.
I think the stats won't really matter as decks will adapt to have removal for big cards.
I mean even if you hit a 10/10 Y'shaarj, what impact will that have on the warlock? Sure you removed their ability to reload, but all the removal is untouched, all the soul shards are still in there.
Uh, what are you talking about? Hitting Y'shaarj gets rid of 6 removal, 5 burn, an 8/8, two 6/6, four soul shards and 2 draw on 3/4 bodies.
I've had plenty of games against Control Lock where I was starting to pull ahead and then the Y'shaarj drop just destroyed me because there's nothing you can do against a full board clear + 36/38 of stats on the board in one turn
Dirty Rat gets you a 2/6 and something else with the other 8 mana, but you've already given them a large thing on the board.
So let's look at a couple scenarios.
Scenario 1: Mutanus vs Yshaarj. You eat Yshaarj, you now have a 14/14. You either force your opponent to burn a hard removal on it, which in Warlock (assuming you were smart enough to bait out Cascading Disaster first) is at least 6 mana committed to that; or they work on setting up and take 14 to the face unless they have a taunt. They also don't have anything extra on board.
Scenario 2: Dirty Rat vs Yshaarj. You summon Yshaarj, and you have something to deal with it, like a Poly or Hex or your own Siphon Soul or something. So you get Dirty Rat and maybe a 3/4 or something down afterwards if you're at 10 mana. Next turn your opponent drops Jaraxxus because you have zero pressure on the board.
Scenario 3, even worse: Dirty Rat vs Yshaarj but you don't have removal, so next turn you get the Dirty Rat Siphoned or something and then take 10 to face.
Dirty Rat is combo disruption at the cost of losing tempo. Mutanus is combo disruption and GAIN tempo because you force your opponent to burn resources and lose steam to deal with him. The tradeoff is that Mutanus is not very good against decks with low-stat minions that have good battlecries whereas Dirty Rat loves those.
You are looking at a single deck and with the best outcome: all those cards corrupted and played and then denying them by hitting Y'shaarj. If the stars don't align and you hit anything else, you gained a big-ish minion and potentially denied a battlecry - and that's it.
In addition to that you assume that the warlock player doesn't know about Mutanus and happily dumps all the resources expecting to reload with Y'shaarj, when in reality (if it's meta) the player will expect you to have Mutanus and that you want to hit Y'shaarj. So resources will be used more conservatively and small minions will be kept to lower your chance to hit Y'shaarj.
However Control Warlock isn't a high tier deck on ladder so I doubt that decks will include Mutanus (against the current deck) purely for an off-chance of hitting Y'shaarj and having a dead card against any other match up, but we have to see.
Typical Blizzard. Tommorow means on Monday or Thursday.
they posted tomorrow yesterday you idiot.
Typical random forum dweller. Can’t even read.
These cards are so boring
I like the idea of the 2 mana 2/3s - giving them extra stats/value to try and push them into competitive territory. I mean, 3 mana 2/3 draw a specific card is probably about the right costing (keeping in mind that 2 mana card draw usually has limitiations, like Prize Vendor having mirror draw).
So we essentially have a 3 mana 2/3 draw 2 (so Arcane Intellect in shaman with an extra body), 3 mana 4/5 in stats draw a card, and pseudo-1 mana 2/3 draw a card. Also keep in mind that these are all specific draws - while that can occasionally result in downside (if it's so late that you've drawn all the relevant cards), often it's more likely to be upside (drawing something specific that you may need).
Competitive play has made me wary of overvaluing cards, and they don't strike me as OP enough for competitive play - but they're good cards in a vacuum.
The Shaman one seems good; though losing Primordial, and to a lesser extent, guidance seems like a big hit.
Mutanus might be good, in 2016, seems too slow for a pile of stats with hard removal, especially when the meta is all wide swingy burst
In wild you just straight up have dirty rat though. No clue why you'd want to play something for 7 mana when you can do it for 2.
More fuel to highlander anyway.
Because if the minion has deathrattle or battlecry it won't activate plus its gone from their res pool.
Reasons you might want to run Mutanus (even in wild):
HIghlander, it's got bundled removal, it's TRUE removal (protects against rez effects), gets around deathrattles, it is an actual threat (even if it only hits a 2/3 it becomes a 7 mana 6/7 which isn't GOOD but it's still big enough to need to be dealt with), it's got a relevant tribe (even without running synergies, new n'zoth can rez it since there's not many good control murlocs you'd run over this anyway), and finally because the gold art on it is probably gonna look super sweet.
Why not both? This card is perfect for a highlander deck in wild!
Is it really? I think you have forgotten what bullshit even combo decks can pull off before turn 7 in Wild. If you draw this vs aggro, you are toast.
If you draw any 7 mana card against agro you are toast dude lol. Don’t point the obvious.
A highlander priest or warlock could use this. Its a good tech card for the excesive amount of combo or op cards there are on wild.
There are plenty of hyper fast swarm decks as well. As priest, you will screw up Polkelt and warlock has other combo killers.
I don't think that "good tech card" will see any play, as even combo decks go off before it comes online.
It seems that 4 other cards have been leaked :

Damn seeing these cards made me pretty salty for a sec. I only play Classic these days. Seeing Standard become less rng and more skill based again kinda stings since I disenchanted all my standard cards.
What's this?

"We're doing Lackeys again!"
Oh Blizzard, never change your dumbass ways. Looks like I'll happily stick with Classic.
