19.2.1 Patch Notes - Edwin & Boggspine Nerfs - Battleground Change
Blizzard just announced some balance changes to both Constructed and Battlegrounds. Read all about it below!
Quote from BlizzardWe’ve got a small balance patch with a few big changes planned for release this Friday, January 8!
Standard Balance Updates
Edwin VanCleef
- Old: [Costs 3] → New: [Costs 4]
- Dev Comment: The last few weeks have been the best Edwin has ever performed as an individual card (the highest win rate card in multiple Rogue archetypes). Alongside cards like Foxy Fraud and Shadowstep, the frequency of early 8/8 or 10/10 Edwin VanCleefs reached a point we are no longer comfortable with. We want to evaluate how the rest of Rogue's kit performs without this very powerful iteration of Edwin. Cards like Foxy Fraud, Swindle, and Prize Plunderer are important pieces for future expansions and card interactions, so we'll be keeping close tabs on how they perform with the influx of new cards and Edwin's nerf.
Boggspine Knuckles
- Old: 4 Attack → New: 3 Attack
- Dev Comment: We're lowering the attack on Boggspine Knuckles in order to cut into the fluidity of Evolve Shaman, increasing the required investment of playing a 5-mana weapon without a free Dread Corsair, and reduce the overall damage output the deck is capable of over multiple weapon charges. This change lowers the amount of explosive plays available to Evolve Shaman and should create an overall healthier meta.
Edwin VanCleef and Boggspine Knuckles will be eligible for a full dust refund for 2 weeks after the 19.2.1 patch goes live.
Battlegrounds Balance Update
Elistra the Immortal
- Old: 7 Attack, 7 Health → New: 4 Attack, 4 Health
Bug Fixes
- Fixed a bug where Infinite Toki’s Temporal Tavern would not function correctly with the New Recruit Darkmoon Prize.
- Fixed a bug where Ysera’s Dream Portal, when used with the New Recruit Darkmoon Prize, would not offer a Dragon when Bob’s Tavern is full.
Also sorry this didn't get into the notes but: Yes Edwin will still rotate later this year and yes we will be reverting the nerf (along with others) at that time.

We'll be looking at Wild more frequently throughout the year, setting some things up to help us do that better.

Any card release has the chance to shift Wild to some degree, the upcoming mini-set being no different. There's some good stuff!
Tickatus' average deck winrate is 50.2%. It's not that good.
From the look of things and as they said a few times in the last year, it appears like they're going to rotate out the classic set and put a new set in its place. I dunno if they'll automatically give people the replacement cards or make people buy more packs. Knowing blizz, it'll probably be the latter.
WOW! WHAT!!! Will they unnerf blade flurry, prep, and cleef so I can oil rogue in wild?!!?! That's all I ever wanted.
I will pay for and craft all gold oil rogue, are you listening Blizzard?!
Dusting any card is just bad idea, nerfed or not
How, you get full dust value so if you want to recraft it you can at no extra cost.
There is literally 0 downside for dusting nerfed cards.
Well, there is the downside of not being able to use it in a deck...
Does the weapon having 1 less attack stop them from flooding the board with 3-drops and 2 10-drops every turn?
No. At least they won't drop 0mana Corsair :p

Their winrate dropped by 4.5% immediately so it definitely did something
Edwin VanCleef will not be entering the Hall of Fame. This has been officially confirmed by Team5 Game Designer Alec Dawson. So dust all your copies now without hesitation! No need to wait any longer.
he litterely confirmed the opposite....

edit: nvm
As one small part of this, Edwin’s time in Standard will come to a close. However, Hall of Fame as it has existed will be no more. This means there is no additional benefit to crafting or hoarding extra Edwins today.

He also continued to say that the HoF is changing, and there is no point in crafting or hoarding Edwins...
So... Edwin rotates out, but no more HoF? Something like that, what?
I dont get it. is Edwin going to be HoF'd or not?
and what about HoF itself? are they going to remove the concept or what?
Edwin will be removed from standard at some point in 2021, but since HoF is no more (probably to cut all benefits of it), he won't be placed there.
He will not be HoFed. He will be sent to Wild Only as HoF will no longer exist.
When are they gonna fix the Mac can't play the game issue? Seriously, this is just prove they don't even bother to run the patch first before launching. Feel so sorry for this small indie company, they must so lack of money.
no rock nerfs? smh ( scissors main)
Ah yes a major nerf and hall of fame send off to yet another long-time staple because Blizzard is too lazy to balance new expansions around the base set.
I wonder if it's even worth having the classic set in standard anymore at this point. Most of the cards have either been power creeped into irrelevance or taken out back to the hall of fame woodshed and put down like Old Yeller.
Lazy is having a base set. There shouldn't be one.
