Hearthstone Live Q&A Recap - Nine New Arena Cards, Player Stats, Random Card Backs, Dungeon Runs
The BlizzCon 2017 Live Q&A has now concluded. Below you will find our recap which includes summarized answers from the Q&A portion of the panel and the nine new cards being added to the arena for a limited time. Be sure to join us on the forums to talk about the new arena cards. We've also got screenshots of the panel if that's your thing!
Present during this panel were Hearthstone's Ben Brode, Mike Donais, Peter Whalen ,and Yong Woo.
Quote from HearthPwnArena Cards
- The Dev Team has 27 cards for us to look at and vote on for inclusion in the arena.
- There are 3 cards per class with 1 card per class being added to the arena.
- The arena event will be a temporary thing, not permanent.
- The cards are not collectible.
Player Stats
- Doing player stats is something they want to do and recently they've been building infrastructure for it.
Druids
- They definitely want to add another Druid hero to the game.
- Finding the right hero to contrast with Malfurion is important. They liked how Nemsy was very different than Gul'dan.
- Druid and Ultimate Infestation are being watched. Statistically speaking though it's not a huge swing card, it just feels that way emotionally.
Random Card Backs
- They've been talking about card back randomization.
- The card back has been painted for the option, they just need to write the code.
Dungeon Runs
- Dungeon Runs should be fun for a long time due to all the different permutations available.
- They should learn a lot from Dungeon runs in how players consume that type of content.
- They've considered releasing more bosses to runs mid-expansion, but nothing concrete yet.
- They don't want to force people to play Dungeon Runs so there aren't any rewards.
- The only reward for Dungeon Runs is the card back for defeating the run with all 9 classes.
Fireside Gatherings
- Fireside Gatherings could be used to build a different type of drafting for arena.
- The Lich King event at Gamescom and Fireside Gatherings was really popular. They will definitely do similar stuff in the future.
Misc
- Morgl may be 10001 years old.
- They may rotate more cards to the Hall of Fame during the next Standard year. No announcements yet.
- Titan's Grip is Mike's favourite card that wasn't added to the game. He won't tell us what it does.
- In World of Warcraft, Titan's Grip allows a Warrior to dual-wield weapons.
- Peter keeps successfully denying the card in each set.
- Destroy a 4 attack minion is Ben's favourite Priest fantasy.
- They would like to add a replay feature at some point.
Winning Arena Cards
These cards will be added to the arena in a future patch. We've got a dedicated discussion thread up on our Arena Forums.

turned it into a thread here: http://www.hearthpwn.com/forums/hearthstone-general/general-discussion/206224-the-right-way-to-reward-dungeon-runs?comment=1
Sounds like a terrible idea to me. Too complicated and doesn't reward average players.
I think your rewards are pretty low. Someone being better than anyone in the game in a game mode is I think much more valuable than getting a 12 wins in arena and deserves a bigger prize.
Put that shit on reddit so the devs see it
They said exactly the same sh*t when they talked about daily login rewards. Why not remove all rewards from the game? Maybe that will make everything better.
I, for one, am very ok with Dungeon Runs. I always want a non-PVP option because sometimes I really want to play, but I just don't want to PVP. And the Innkeeper gets old. It's somewhat fun to revisit the old dungeons, especially after new cards come out. So this is a sweet way to add more content like that.
Ideally, they implement Mythic Dungeons for the hardcore problem solvers :)
Thing is, that feeling of being "forced" to play something is cool, because you know there is a rewarding-reward at the end of it. I might play a Dungeon Run and have fun, of course, but after i've completed it i would feel like i've wasted my time if there is no reward to it. Most of us would rather use that time to at least rank, even if that's not our primary concern, we would at least accomplish something. I really think they should add a reward to it, something really basic, since the content seems really good
But without any reward... players will spend they time grinding for gold somewhere else, know why? Because we actually are subliminally forced to get gold to keep our collection up to date. If we don't, the game loses its fun in the next expansions, since we would be missing cards.
Crackling doom is such an insane tempo play, holy shit. Await a lot of salt in ashaman arena (good thing shaman is bad Krappa)
They could make the Dungeon Run rewards cosmetic so no one feels they have to play them to remain competitive while still offering some rewards for those that achieve long runs or lots of boss defeats.
I'm waiting for this Hunter card since GvG.. please don't make it arena only :/
Wouldn't you rather have Build-A-Beast?
I kno rite... tbis should be a card. Especially if they are trying to make control hunter a thing. This card is absolutely perfect
Do anyone know anything about this random cardback?
i just hope they return option to changing cardbacks during the match. you could change your card back every turn . just to show off or just to pick the one you were in the mood during the match :D
You must do really well meeting the minimum word requirements for essays
The arena cards seem odd. Some seem ridiculously broken while some others seem fairly ok. I wonder what mode needs that
There is a typo in the blue post.
Titan's grip does not allow warrior to duel wield weapons - it allows warrior to duel wield 2 HAND weapons.
Which if any of you played WoW will know is a big thing - warrior was always able to duel wield 1 HAND weapons.
... Dual* wield - as in duo, or having 2 ^^
