The whole discard mechanic just sucks to begin with... Every single time you play one of them you're just flipping a coin that has a good potential to win or lose the game based on which card you discard.
Seeing discard decks every other match would increase the already ridiculous amount of RNG in Hearthstone even more. Blizz please stop doing this.
Comparisons to Bolvar Fordragon aren't really fair, since Bolvar's effect only happens when he's in your hand. This is a card you could draw after a number of earlier discards and find that its stats are very reasonable for a 5-drop (especially with the lifesteal value that Warlock critically needs).
I have vision of a deck that uses discarding and deathrattles in synergy with Void Terror. Not too much discarding or the quest to put you down. It may feel messy, but we have not seen all the cards. But i have a dream.
I think the main problem with discard warlock is all the cards that discard cards do so at random. I think there are 3 solutions to this;
1) make all discard cards choose the card you discard, thereby removing the random element entirely. The problems with this is the discard cards would be much more powerful and probably need to be nerfed, and blizz would have to program the ability to select one of your cards with a battlecry.
2) make all discard cards use some sort of parameter for their discarding; for example, "discard one of the highest cost cards in your hand" or "discard a random warlock card from your hand, if you have no warlock cards in hand, discard a random card instead." The problems with this is it's still random somewhat, and it requires alot more text which might exceed the four lines of text rule
3) make the cards that get a bonus from being discarded eg Silverware Golem have the text "if you would randomly discard a card, discard this card instead." The problem with this is the cards with these effects would need to be balanced
who knows maybe this is warlock death knight hero power
Dont let Kripp play this. It will be the first card he discards.
This card is getting a lot of hate, and I'm not totally convinced that it's entirely merited. Discolock can be quite inconsistent, and a lot of people are joking that you could discard this and lose all value from it, but it's worth noting that this effect is present on Blood-Queen Lana'thel regardless of when it is played. So, you could play it before you play the discard effect and buff it while in play. If the worst should happen and you lose it to a discard effect, you could bring it back later with Cruel Dinomancer. (Before people laugh down that suggestion, remember that we're getting a bunch of new deathrattles in this expansion, which may make cards like N'Zoth, the Corruptor and even Spiritsinger Umbra more useful, making a control style Quest Warlock more viable.)
She couldve been something like this and amazing, turning your hero and minions into vampires.
At least the attack gain is not a battlecry, so you can play the blood queen first, then discard other stuff to gain attack without discarding the queen itself.
Reduce the mana cost of this card to 4, and fix Lakkari Sacrifice in: "For the rest of the game, when you have to discard a card from your hand, you can choose it. Quest: Discard 5 Cards. | Nether Portal: At the end of your turn, summon a minion you discarded and a 3/2 Imp".
Than we can play Discardlock.
the problem is not the discard mechanic, i played yu-gi-oh before hearthstone and if anyone know that game , the Dark Lord archetype was powerful even with the randomness, what hearthstone need to make discard viable is more support, more cards that activate a powerful effect when they're discarded, right now we have only 2. if we get something like : x mana, when this card is discarded, discard 2 cards from your opponent hand. OR x mana x/x if this card is discarded summon it and another minion you discarded this game. OR x mana Choose a minion in your hand, discard it and discover a spell.
Well, I disagree with the designs you offered. The first one, that discards 2 cards from opponents hand is disgusting on the recieving end. Dirty rat is only able to skip battlecries of cards, but is already one of the more frustrating cards when they land on something that you really wanted to be played naturally. I mean, Blizzard rejected old design of Illidan (it was something like "discard 3 cards for both player, than draw 3 for both").
The second one seems a little too good since you get a discard of your choice, a card draw/discover and a body. Also since that 2/2 legendary cannot be discarded, the value becomes too insane.
If that's gonna be the only Lifesteal card Warlock gets, people are gonna be pissed.
I really doubt it, Warlock's one of the only classes that actually had "deal damage, get health" mechanics before this expansion (Drain Life, Siphon Soul, Mistress of Pain). Lifesteal is probably going to be huge for them this time around, it's so so in theme for them.
Clan Dimun Captain Pirate!
Now gol-
Legendary!
Third legendary card trying to force a discard deck. And it's starting to get very expensive.
I will never understand why blizzard push discard meta on warlock. It is inherently bad concept because we have limited deck size of 30. It means that slow discard cards can't be viable since you have to win fast due to losing cards on discard. Yet here we are with this "nice" legendary , good design
bravo
Warlock should get a card like this.
Bloody Ooze
Battlecry and Deathrattle: Discover a card from your hand and discard it.
