Two Expansions and One Adventure Per Year
Polygon recapped their trip to Blizzard a few months ago to discuss the Standard format alongside other community members. We've recapped the important parts below!
Quote from Blizzard
- No longer will set releases alternate between adventure and expansion.
- We will see two expansions per year (start and end) and one adventure (middle). At least for now.
- Ancient of Lore and Keeper of the Grove "maybe those aren't the right choices" - Mike Donais
- Leper Gnome and Knife Juggler are two neutral minions being looked at.
- The move to Standard may be a bit early, but they don't want to get to the point where it feels impossible to catch up.
- Wild was originally going to be known as Legacy but Brian Kibler urged them to make it more Warcrafty.
- Adventures could potentially come back out of "the vault" much like Disney's movies do. (Idea is not mature)
Ancient / Eternal are fantastic suggestions.
It does make more sense to have chosen a different term since legacy was already used in MTG
The Problem of Ancient of Lore in not heal 5, is draw 2 cards....to much value
What does it mean by Ancient of Lore and Keeper of the Grove "arnt the right choices?"
do they mean they arnt right choices for nurf or?
Don't think the expansions will have so many useful cards.. And even if they do I can keep up with it I am playing as a f2p over a year and have all adventures and I am missing only epic+ cards no rares or commons (the playable ones) missing so in general I actually advance my collection between the expansions.. And also blizzard said they might give a boost to dailies..
So in general a f2p player can catch up eventually people who just started should get loe but no brm and try to buy only classic and new expansions next years when tgt brm and loe will cycle out they will be in a good shape!
Of course they are doing more expansions than adventures now. More cards you can only get from packs. More pressure on the hapless players to feed into Blizzard's greed.
Why bring Adventures "out of the vault" when this "vault" shouldn't exist in the first place? The whole "vault" concept is stupid for the same reason it is for HotS mounts. It's just another blatant attempt to push sales and cash-grab. If people feel like they are only available for a limited time, they are more likely to make the impulse buy.
Make Knife Juggler 2/2, Leper Gnome ability to deal 1 damage instead of 2.
I have a mixed feeling about the 2 expansions for 1 Adventure per year... 3 releases/year is a good rythm to me but come on, ADVENTURES !!
Adventures are a lot of fun. Adventures are a great way to catch up for new players as you can easily get cards and they are inexpensive compared to card packs,....
So even if I think the 3 releases a year was Ideal, I would prefer 2 adventure & 2 "light" expansions (let's say around 100 cards instead of 120/130). But wait and see till the next expansion. I think blizzard did a good job between Naxx and LoE (more cards for the same price) and between GvG and TGT (more cards for the same amount of legendaries).
Not getting new adventures really hurts me .. I really loved the adventures, and they kept getting better and better. LoE was so fun and really showed that creative and fun side Blizzard has and apparently can still deliver. So more adventures in the future is the key for me.
Oh man i cannot wait for GvG and Naxx to get the hell out of here. Cannot wait for these changes to happen. Im so happy Blizzard does all this stuff. So annoyed of all the Juggels, Boom Bots, Schredders and Imposion rng. Just one juggle made me win an Arena game on turn 4, because after that i was able to tempo hard. Its stupid...
Cant believe people thing 2 expansions a year is too many. Most physical tcg's keep up 4 sets a year with many, many more cards than HS has.
I'm not so much into the market but maybe the issue is that packs are a bit expensive (I don't know the prices in the other TCGs), while you have too much RNG involved in them (it's not like you're able to complete the collection with a certain amount of packs).
That is one of the reasons I stopped playing MTG.
Then go play MTG.
I quit Magic the Gathering due to the price of decks and cards as a good Legacy deck is around $4000 and a good standard deck is $400-800. Physical packs were $4 a pop at the local shop and could be $2.87 if you bought bulk from a dealer in Montreal and by bulk I mean you had to get a minimum of a case which was 6 boxes which each contained 36 packs and thus was 216 packs or $620.
Me : I quit MTG because of their release rythm (between other reasons)
answer : Then go play MTG
uh !
Stealth nerf to the amount of adventures released per year.
