Warsong Commander Nerf Incoming
Grim Patron isn't going to be the same. The patch will go live next week.
Quote from ZeriyahThe following balance change will be made in an upcoming patch:
Warsong Commander now reads: Your Charge minions have +1 Attack.
Over the course of the short but impactful history of Hearthstone, we’ve taken a strong stance that we’d like to make changes to cards only when they are completely necessary. The direction of gameplay and the metagame should be defined by our players, and as the meta is evolving, many different types of decks can emerge. Cards that were once impactful in the meta can be less so once new strategies emerge, and that change is brought on by the constant need and drive for innovation by our players.
Innovation is just one way a game can evolve, and the best way to shake up the meta and innovate in Hearthstone is by introducing new cards into the game. Introducing new cards to Hearthstone is our preferred method of changing the current state of the game. It’s exciting to discover a deck that may have an advantage over a popular deck out there, and new cards lead to the discovery of new combinations, and new conversations. Hearthstone thrives off of stories about enjoying a fast-paced, fun game with friends that’s full of delightful surprises.
Going forward, we will continue to stand by our stance that we will only make adjustments to cards when we feel it is completely necessary and allow the injection of new cards into the game help our players define what the meta evolves into. In the case of Warsong Commander, we felt this change was necessary to help expand both future design space and to stand by our overarching game philosophy that battles between minions and fighting for board control is what makes Hearthstone fun and compelling.
The patch that includes the Warsong Commander change is currently planned for next week. (Source)
More like a lot more secret paladin decks. Control warrior is too expensive to be played by most of the casual f2p crowd (which is 90% of the player base)
I don't get how the way of fixing a strong combo is to completely destroy it.
that's how Blizzard "balances" cards/combos.
Remember the old Buzzard, Unleash combo? Same thing. Buzzard is unplayable ever since.
I don't get why Blizzard can't just nerf something a little instead of going completely overboard and killing not only a card but a whole deck.
There are a lot of things they could've done. Make Patrons or Berserker 3/2, so they die faster for example.
Farewell Grim Patron Warrior, ye shall NOT be missed! >:D
Seriously this deck was stupid, I am glad to see it nerfed to oblivion.
Grim Patron isn't going to be played anymore.
f*cked right in the p.... atron
wow didn't expect a nerf that hard, it was a funny deck, just a bit overpowerd. Paladin Priest now No. 1, so control priest finaly good on ladder
And there was much rejoicing
I agree that the deck needed a nerf, and I don't particularly enjoy playing against it, but sheesh, this is going too far. I concur with what others said in terms of curtailing the charge effect granted by warsong once a minion's attack exceeds 3 (or some other reasonable ceiling). That would prevent the insane frothing turns. In spite of the warsong change, I still feel like there was more to the deck, namely the totality of all the great synergy between cards, that made it so strong. Being able to cast whirlwind on a full board, gaining armor from armor smiths while simultaneously spawning more patrons, and then casting battle rage to replenish your hand, was totally insane and I don't blame anyone for playing a deck with such superior card synergy. It's the same reason people play hunter. The cards just mesh so well together. What I'd really like to see Blizzard do is get the other classes to the point where they have similar levels of synergy among their cards.
Now Warsong Commander gets nerfed? What are they going to nerf every basic class specific minion to the ground?
And now it's time for [card]Mysterious Challenger[/card] :P
I feel that the biggest issue with Patron decks were the Frothing Berserkers..
I felt possible solutions would be to change Berserkers to 'friendly only', or if minions buffed by Warsong would lose their charge if they were to raise above 3 attack, the same way a Southsea Deckhand loses charge if you use up your weapon before attacking with it..
Warsong is pretty useless right now, it should be +2 attack, to at least be considered as viable..
I agree that a nerf for Patron Warrior is long overdue. However, I disagree with Blizzard's decision as to how the nerf is carried out. The last thing we need is for Warsong to become a completely new card! With this nerf, it loses all semblance of what Warsong is - essentially, it becomes an unplayable Raid Leader. Another card to add to the evergrowing pile of terrible nerfed cards: Leeroy Jenkins, Starving Buzzard, etc. A more balanced nerf would be, as I am sure many have said, would be to the OTK Frothing Beserker, or for Warsong to deactivate after 3 attack. Blizzard, listen to your players - don't make the same mistake you have in the past!
It's sad to see that Warsong Commander got the Buzzard treatment and got nerfed into unplayable trash.
I mean c'mon, that effect is so horrible, atleast make it a 2 mana card.
I think this nerf would have not been necessary if Emperor Thaurissan didn't exist. Emperor Thaurissan made some huge combos possible, not only for warrior but for other classes as well. Blizzard screwed up the second Thaurissan was released.
Ben Brode right now
This nerf was warranted and LONG overdue. The ability to summon a swarm of Grim Patrons was INCREDIBLY broken. You'll notice, if you watch Twitch broadcasts of Hearthstone, that most players were using a Grim Patron deck and 2 decks created to counter Grim Patron. This nerf is going to be a huge change for Warriors on ladder.
GD i have 58,500 dust on my d/e button and blizzard nerfs a card that is basic... yes all i care about is more dust lol. blizz are you sure frothing beserker isn't the REAL problem i mean i have like 15 of those to d/e
I spent almost 500 dust on this deck, not included 3500 gold for the Adventure it requires to complete the deck (Death's bite 2800 gold and Emperor/Patron another 700 Gold). What can Blizzard do about that? I guess nothing since I'm just another patron in this game. Seems face hunter is still the way to go, cancer it is you want then.
