The HearthPwn Tavern Is Closing Its Doors
March 23, 2013 is a date that will be hard to forget.
Almost six years ago I was brought on by Curse as the Community Manager of HearthPwn. Part of the job entailed keeping everyone up to date with the latest news out of the community, and today I am with deep regret and sadness to give you one of the final updates HearthPwn has to offer, words that are difficult to type together - we are closing the doors to our Tavern.
HearthPwn will be closing its doors on June 28, 2019, 2257 days after our journey began. It is on this day you will no longer be able to add new content to the site.
Although our doors may be closing, we’re going to keep the windows open. The history of our site, all the posts, decks, and other content we all have created over the years will be archived and still viewable to those who want to see it. Creating new content will be disabled, our news will no longer be updated.
We’ve all been through a lot together over the years and I’m going to miss delivering content to you all as fast as possible, especially the sleep-deprived card reveal periods. Our amazing deck guide writers over the years have created some of the best content this game has ever seen and educated many new players in new archetypes. I’m quite happy all that content and history will still be accessible because there’s quite a bit of unique content.
Our Fan Creations section with the weekly card design competitions has some of Hearthstone’s most dedicated fans and gave way to some of the coolest card designs and always lead to questions of “Is Blizzard crazy enough to add something like this to the game?”. Only time will ultimately tell, though considering we did end up with Genn and Baku, anything is truly possible if you set your mind to it.
Speaking of those that really put their mind to it, our wonderful selection of forum trolls. You all made us work relentlessly, testing the limits of our moderation system, but you too brought a special charm to the site. Those midday laughs when we couldn’t believe you were at it again are uncountable
I could name so many of you who have improved my life in some way through HearthPwn but I can’t do that for I fear I’d miss out on someone. Even those people I never interacted with directly, there’s a good chance I read something you posted or created and thought highly of it or had a good laugh. Thank you so much for all the heartfelt and informative messages throughout the years, you’re the reason I go through madness to make sure card reveals every expansion were delivered as fast as possible.
I’d like to invite everyone to leave a message in the comment section below. What was your favourite HearthPwn memory? I’d also like to invite you to my Discord server where we can all still keep in touch, talk Hearthstone, and go crazy with card reveals even after HearthPwn closes its doors. I'll also be around on Twitch today talking about memories with y'all.
Stay awesome,
Robert and the HearthPwn Staff
PS. Myself and the moderation team will all still be around until the end. Expect to see continued coverage of the remaining adventure chapters and more. Thank you.
PPS. We still need to declare a winner in our last ever class creation competition.
An update I'd like to add from the MTG Salvation shut down message. Like them, we are also continuing with another project. You may find the old team on Out of Cards.
Quote from Feyd_RuinThe answer to the inevitable question of why is complex, but deserves a response. Our owners have expanded on to other projects, launching such epic endeavors as D&D Beyond. As these have taken off, the development team has shifted focus and simply does not have the time and resources for us that we require. They can simply no longer justify the development, infrastructure, and maintenance costs of the site compared to their other projects.
Thanks hearthpwn. Fuck you curse gaming.
Meh, don't blame Curse Gaming. Not their fault. You know, sites don't run for free, and if a profit isn't being made it's not worth the effort and time by the content creators and engineers who put all this together.
I can't believe a site with such a large user base is not profitable. If it is not, they are doing something wrong.
Thanks for all guys and good luck with the new projects! :)
Commas can be your friend, unless you really are 'thankful for all guys".
:p
Ho perso interesse nel gioco intorno alla fine dell'anno scorso. Ma ho continuato a tornare su questo sito tutti i giorni. Davvero, avete fatto un gran lavoro!
Pls dont forget to make a 80g quest trading post on the new https://outof.cards Forums ;)
This HSPwn site was an epic Era! The BEST HS site ever on the internet! The BEST News section, activity, Forums, Deckbuilds and statistics!
You absolutley ROCKED, Guys!
With a little piece of my heart i wanna thank you for all your work! Wish you luck and happiness ahead of you!
Russian fan, Zearon.
That comment your mom made.
So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish!
Dang, was hoping it said the site was closing May 28th
Now we have to wait another 30 days for hell to freeze over
I've been a member for almost 6 years. Almost since the beginning of this site. This site has been a huge blessing to the Hearthstone and even digital card gaming community. As a casual, slightly-above average player (never getting above rank 4), I thoroughly enjoyed and relied on Hearthpwn to help me better my skill and understanding, but also to try out creative decks that I'd not have thought of on my own. For the most part, the community here has been great IMO. I know the content has been A+, second to none. I'm saddened to see the site go, but I completely understand why.
Thank you for all the years you brought to our HS experience. Sincerely wishing you well on your new endeavor.
All I have to say is thank you. I have been playing HS for 3,5 years and I have been checking your site daily for 3 years. I never thought there was better a better place to get my HS news, teasers, reveals. I don’t think I ever will.
Hearthpwn has been at least as important to me as Hearthstone itself for the last 4 years.. As sad as I am to hear from this, I'm happy that you guys will move on, keeping the legacy alive at outof.cards more independently. It will be a challenge yet I'm certain this wonderful team can handle it. I've already created an account on outof.cards and look forward to a bright future.
I will miss Hearthpwn but as long as all of you guys remain, I'm in for the new adventure! :)
Thank you everyone!
This make me really sad.
This website is part of my favorite list for 4 years and its community is the major resource for my decks.
Good luck for everything.
My best memory here is a comment I made on The Marsh Queen reveal thread that got about 150 upvotes. I haven’t seen any comments that got more upvotes that that.
This post broke my heart! </3
I can't even recall how much time I've spent on Hearthpwn (its definitely over 9000 hours :P) even though I never participated in the community card designs, I always go to Hearthpwn when it is card reveal season and on quite a few occasions, just sat at my PC to hit F5 for a few hours waiting and watching the card reveal countdown clock. This site was better managed than official blizzard sites and it brings a tear to my eye that you are closing the tavern doors.
You will be missed!
P.S: will there be a new site to take over HearthPwn? HearthStation perhaps? Where will we get our card reveals then!
Yes, we're continuing on HearthStation (or outof.cards, as its now called) from where we left. We'll be covering the card reveals there like we have done here when the time comes.
what !??? ;(((
This affects me more than I thought. I'm so sorry for all you guys, I hope your talents can be used somewhere else. Good luck to all of you and thank you.
What will become the alternative?
