The HearthPwn Tavern Is Closing Its Doors
March 23, 2013 is a date that will be hard to forget.
Almost six years ago I was brought on by Curse as the Community Manager of HearthPwn. Part of the job entailed keeping everyone up to date with the latest news out of the community, and today I am with deep regret and sadness to give you one of the final updates HearthPwn has to offer, words that are difficult to type together - we are closing the doors to our Tavern.
HearthPwn will be closing its doors on June 28, 2019, 2257 days after our journey began. It is on this day you will no longer be able to add new content to the site.
Although our doors may be closing, we’re going to keep the windows open. The history of our site, all the posts, decks, and other content we all have created over the years will be archived and still viewable to those who want to see it. Creating new content will be disabled, our news will no longer be updated.
We’ve all been through a lot together over the years and I’m going to miss delivering content to you all as fast as possible, especially the sleep-deprived card reveal periods. Our amazing deck guide writers over the years have created some of the best content this game has ever seen and educated many new players in new archetypes. I’m quite happy all that content and history will still be accessible because there’s quite a bit of unique content.
Our Fan Creations section with the weekly card design competitions has some of Hearthstone’s most dedicated fans and gave way to some of the coolest card designs and always lead to questions of “Is Blizzard crazy enough to add something like this to the game?”. Only time will ultimately tell, though considering we did end up with Genn and Baku, anything is truly possible if you set your mind to it.
Speaking of those that really put their mind to it, our wonderful selection of forum trolls. You all made us work relentlessly, testing the limits of our moderation system, but you too brought a special charm to the site. Those midday laughs when we couldn’t believe you were at it again are uncountable
I could name so many of you who have improved my life in some way through HearthPwn but I can’t do that for I fear I’d miss out on someone. Even those people I never interacted with directly, there’s a good chance I read something you posted or created and thought highly of it or had a good laugh. Thank you so much for all the heartfelt and informative messages throughout the years, you’re the reason I go through madness to make sure card reveals every expansion were delivered as fast as possible.
I’d like to invite everyone to leave a message in the comment section below. What was your favourite HearthPwn memory? I’d also like to invite you to my Discord server where we can all still keep in touch, talk Hearthstone, and go crazy with card reveals even after HearthPwn closes its doors. I'll also be around on Twitch today talking about memories with y'all.
Stay awesome,
Robert and the HearthPwn Staff
PS. Myself and the moderation team will all still be around until the end. Expect to see continued coverage of the remaining adventure chapters and more. Thank you.
PPS. We still need to declare a winner in our last ever class creation competition.
An update I'd like to add from the MTG Salvation shut down message. Like them, we are also continuing with another project. You may find the old team on Out of Cards.
Quote from Feyd_RuinThe answer to the inevitable question of why is complex, but deserves a response. Our owners have expanded on to other projects, launching such epic endeavors as D&D Beyond. As these have taken off, the development team has shifted focus and simply does not have the time and resources for us that we require. They can simply no longer justify the development, infrastructure, and maintenance costs of the site compared to their other projects.
If you check the thread on reddit an employee used a throwaway account to shed some light.
This is even more heartbraking then if pornhub would close. Will Miss you guys 😢.
Thx for All the amazing and fun OTK decks, dont think I will have that much fun in the future when this site wont be around.
As said milions times before, this was my home and will always remain in my heart(h).
Hope you create more awesome stuff in future
Damn I guess we go back to reddit for news now....
www.outof.cards is where we're going. Feel free to join.
This sucks. Hearthpwn was my go to site for everything Hearthstone for the last 4 years.
Well I’m shocked. I can’t believe you’re closing down. I mean the site isn’t dead. There’s still so much life especially every new expansion!
I was here from day one when you guys got posted on MMO-Champion. You always were my go to when I wanted to try new decks out or see the latest news. I’ll miss ya.
Holy shit this was completely unexpected.
Jeez, has been a long time since I've been actively commenting on stuff, really, I still remember my early beginnings making trashy cards and being critically panned, I would regret that if it wasn't for me to learn from that.
As it is actually fucking cringy to remember. Then I went to make a lot of cards and expansions, somehow I got in here, weird, but y'know, I've had a great experience at Hearthpwn, I don't regret ever existing in here, or even keep creating cards since those were so bad (And copied mainly from Hex, but that's something I don't want to remember lol), the fact that I don't regret that is that I feel that I improved, at least in the sense of not doing random stuff, but, actually making something, instead of making nothing and be an annoyance. I've met great people like Pirciboi, Demonx, Technician, and of course all the great mods in here and in the discord! You've made a great fucking job raising this newborn baby to a wise elder, and made it have it's own identity, I'm gonna miss Shadows fun posts, the incredible cards people have made and just, having fun in checking what people have made and posted everyday on the site!
I'm specially gonna miss the weekly competitions and class/expansion creation competitions, that was the best part of all the site, how people brought in their ideas into one single solid spot of beutifulness, supporting each other and giving their honest opinion, even if those were harsh sometimes lul :P.
What an amazing community this has grown into, thanks for all the amazing staff up there for making this a dream, including the moderators, how fun, wonderful people you are.
I'm gonna hecking miss this site.
Also walrus if your prophecy isn't true im gonna fukin sue ufUCk iM nOT sOBbingI'm gonna miss Dog's face with "save pack with amazon coin " ads PepeHands
Hearthpwn allowed me to discover decks and ideas that I would have never thought of as a new player at the time. It helped me develop as a player into someone that can now make his own decks to get to legend. Really, it helped me learn the process of how to get good at a game in general.
The card design competitions were fun. This was the best place to track card reveals, you were always on top of things and had a visually appealing lay out. It was nice that if you just wanted to get a quick tavern brawl win for the pack, there were decks right there on the front of the site.
For me, this was THE place for hearthstone news.
I remember that these grinding-for-legend threads helped me staying focused and motivated to become legend with
Tempo Mage
Secret Pala
Dragon Warrior
Sad to see you leaving :(
It was about time LUL
Thank you for the sense of community throughout the years. I made this account as my New Year's Resolution in 2017, and while I haven't been super active in the last few months, I've always kept an eye on the site and will be truly sad to see it go.
I'd especially like to thank Flux, Chimera, Ben, ShadowsOfSense and Pageturner for their content and commitment to the site. You are terrific contributors (even if we disagreed on cards at times).
I am the only one of my friend group that got me into the game that still plays it, so in leaving this site I'll be hard-pressed to find a better group. But we will survive, eh?
It's just another shift in the meta. Farewell, Hearthpwn.
Make Hearthpwn community driven website like wikipedia. All the fans here will stand behind this.
That exists and it is called gamepedia. They don't care about hearthpwn and consider them the same, so this is closing unfortunately. Join us a www.outof.cards
You know I mean the whole website structure, tools, news etc... This could be supported by the fans who visit HPwn with donations for those who participate in writing the articles and for the website expenses. I am talking about the same site, but adds free and 100% community supported. We can make it better, all of us. Why not give the people what they want, but freeze the website instead? There is much useful stuff here and already developed community.
Could we not do an OPEN LETTER to the current owners and let them know our desires? First, DFans, now HPwn - this is a SHAME if they don't care for this community!
There should be a farewell card design competition with Hearthpwn theme!! Don't know how yet, but I think people would come with great ideas and it would just be a sweet thing to do..
Maybe just end of turn effects?
Sad to see you go! Didn't post much in forums but was on the site every day. This site changed how I played/viewed hearthstone!! Thank you for everything. You will be greatly missed </3
see you all on the flipside! 😅
Checking Hearthpwn has been part of my daily routine for years, so I'm gonna miss you guys, thanks for your hard work and best of luck in your new endevours.
