SchrodingersCat posted a message on Group therapy! Need to blow off steam? Mega salty? Here is the place! V2Posted in: General DiscussionIt seems that decision making has been taken out this game entirely. There were some decks in the past that required thought and deck understanding to really make them shine. However, the game has slowly transcended into a plague of faceroll decks which require you not to think but to instead spend a great deal of money. Every deck (more or less) requires pivotal legendaries in order to maximise your chances of winning. Additionally, these decks also tend to play themselves since the legendaries (and epic and rares) do the leg work for the player i.e. Dr Boom, lunas pocket galaxy etc. In the past you could get away with not having all the cards for a specific deck but due to power creep it’s simply no longer feasible. For example, leeroy can be replaced with a similar charge minion with 1 less damage. But how do you replace Dr Boom, Shudderwock, prismatic lens, lich Jaina, and so on.
Additionally, It just dawned on me that in order for someone new to game to be competitive you would need to spend a ridiculous amount of money to be able to play the best decks. How does blizzard justify that?

Play sightly off meta deck>? Get fucking rolled over, if anything hunturds deserved a trash secret not another "I don't care about minionhplol autokill" Atleast Snipe is balanced.
I'm so sick of the cards which punish HARD anything above 4-5 crystal like seriously we're stuck forever in the play only under 3 mana minions or get fuck most of the time.

That fucking card is the worst balancing mistake since pre-nerf Undertaker, and the most unfun piece of shit to deal with since DK Rexxar.

Arachnidius posted a message on New Rogue Card Revealed - Bazaar BurglaryPosted in: NewsIt's not. For the last two or so expansions any time Blizzard have printed a thief rogue card they've used the wording "from another class" instead of "from your opponent's class", specifically to allow the archetype to work in the mirror match.
See Hench-Clan Burglar, Pilfer, Stolen Steel and even Vendetta.

xerohour posted a message on New Card Revealed - Desert ObeliskPosted in: NewsYou play this in priest and only play these things, in a rez deck. Keep using vivid nightmares, seance, etc until they're all online. When the time is right, mass resurrection for 15 random damage, then next turn lose the game.

grimfang999 posted a message on New Legendary Card Revealed - Elise the EnlightenedPosted in: NewsThe problem is that control druid is currently castrated due to its mana ramp, card draw, and single target removal being ruined, alongside so many large minion removals being added for other classes basically means control/combo druid is nonviable unless theres a big control tool being introduced but not yet revealed.
This in any other meta would be great for druid, but slow druid decks simply dont have the tools to survive and win right now.

Again, having a complicated relationship with an abusive older brother(not being sad after as he dies, but still wanting to honor the person he was with naming) is not foreshadowing madness leading to mass murder. See the hound the hound and his abusive older brother. See Tyrion who actually kills his abusive father! People are really grasping at straws here.

Also, a fun thing to do is to go on youtube and find videos where people fix the indefensibly bad writing choices with very minor tweaks. It's like connecting major plot points using something other than zigzags drawn with crayon.
For example, last episode, Tyrion walks up to Cersei and pleads for her to surrender. (At this point Tyrion is fully brain dead, which is fine, maybe that's the point of his character?) Cersei, who literally has been sending people to kill him since he left King's Landing years ago, has the full ability to kill him now. In order to provoke Dany into doing something rash, she could just kill Tyrion. He's the Queen's hand, and top on Cersei's kill list. Instead, she kills Missandei and just lets him walk away. If the goal is provocation, killing Tyrion would work just as well. Then she could keep Missandei as a human shield for the red keep, just like she has been doing with by letting the peasants into the city. Or she could kill both of them, and double up on the provocation. The only combination that makes no sense is to kill the prisoner you've done the hard work to capture and let Tyrion walk, which is of course what the show runners went with.
Why did Cersei want to further provoke Dany at all? (Other Cersei's a bitch, so why not?) It almost seemed to foreshadow Cersei having something else up her sleeve, something that Dany wasn't aware of.
Instead of Cersei just being lame and delusional, and Dany going crazy on civilians AFTER she's won an easy, precise, unambiguous victory, consider: Who hates the common folk of King's Landing? Not Dany. She has never interacted with them, and thinks of herself as a liberator. Cersei, however, personally hates each one after dealing with them for years, especially after her walk of shame. This is part of the reason she blows up the sept and surrounding area without a shred of remorse.
So, Cersei- with knowledge of wildfire stores, a hatred of the peasants she has decided to use as human shields, the time and impetus to build lots of scorpions, and cruel sense of irony- places thickets of these weapons throughout the city(NOT only on the outer walls), over safe houses filled with peasants and barrels of wildfire. In order to use Drogon, Dany has to take them out. The first explosion comes as a surprise and she's a bit conflicted, seeing all the peasants burning. However, being fucking pissed off, hating Cersei even more, and wanting to ensure her victory, she makes the difficult choice to destroy the rest of these scorpion nests/traps and then the keep itself.
So Dany ends up destroying the city, partly out of necessity but partly out of frustration. She destroys what she has come to save, becomes queen of the ashes. Cersei laughs maniacally, finally getting her ultimate revenge on everyone who has wronged her or wanted to usurp her, ultimately at the cost of everything, including her own life and the life of her unborn child. Dany defeated on the eve of her greatest victory by destroying her long awaited prize. Then she snaps and goes full mad queen. Here both women have agency, both we can empathize with on some level, and it makes thematic and narrative sense.

It's hilarious what lengths people will go through to defend this indefensibly stupid episode and season.
The consistent tragic arc is not Dany's descent into madness, it has been the decline of show's writing- more and more scenes and episodes makes zero sense in terms of narrative or thematics, but make perfect sense in terms of brain dead shock factor and spectacular visuals. The writing is the foundation of story- and if it's a harmless fluff story like Detective Pikachu, you can say whatever, just enjoy it. But if the tone of the show is grave and somber, and we are supposed to feel something when we look at charred bodies and ash with dramatic music in the background, we have to be able to take the show seriously. The positively goofy scripts of the last two episode in particular prohibit that.

I stopped reading after the first two bullets. Viserys was basically Ramsay with platinum blond hair. If you take Dany threatening him or not being sad when he dies as forshadowing that she would commit mass murder, you are deranged.

Great video laying waste to defenders of the episode/ the writing in general. Perhaps skip past the intro.
You can hate Dany, you can think the Mad Queen was absolutely the right choice(I don't, but w/e), and still think this episode and last season or two has been garbage.

Who in the show, with one episode left has arc that makes any sense?
Lets leave aside Dany because a lot of people have hated her for a long time, and are bending over backwards to defend this trainwreck of a mad queen plot.
What was the point of Tyrion? to escape his cruel and evil family to serve another cruel and even queen, being a terrible judge of character and falling for every trap laid out?
What about Varys? He spent all this time carefully maneuvering in service of the realm, just to launch a clumsy coup attempt while Cersei is still on the throne, sending out letters stating "Jon is a real boy" from underneath Dany's nose?
Sansa learned how to navigate the subtleties of politics king King's landing and from Littlefinger in order to hide in a crypt, and then sneer about the final battle from 1000 miles away?
Jorah sacrificed everything for Dany, only for her to go crazy the next episode and spit on everything he thought of her? Greyworm become a homicidal maniac after being level headed and just all this time?
Jon just limps from scene to scene, whining like a bitch and hoping for another deus ex machina to save him.
Thematic garbage.

Can we all agree that the writing over the last 3 and half seasons, especially the last 3 episodes, was insultingly bad? Both in terms of logical transitions between scenes, overall narrative, and character development?

5 wins in a row :) then 3 losses, :(

This might not actually be an upgrade- a lot of aggroish decks flood the board with little minions that you wouldn't want to pay 4 mana to rez- this is why i stoped using Shadow Madness- too many bad/small minions screw up the discover options.

I love how so many talk as if match making is perfectly random and this is a known fact. I haven't seen any evidence of that, and I'd love to see that instead of just smug assertions.
It's actually pretty challenging to make a truly random algorithm, much easier to approximate randomness.
Is there any incentive for Blizzard to make an algorithm that is not "truly random"? Of course, Blizzard has a bunch of goals- all centered around maximizing profit. Blizzard is a for-profit enterprise.
Motivations could include: varying matches to improve the player experience (I haven't seen much of that, but definitely possible). Queuing people into counters who are on a win-streak or just about to reach a new ranking. This could cause them to tech their deck with new cards or try a new deck, increasing the likelihood they need to craft cards or open packs. Could also be to stop players on losing streaks, as they might rage quit the game entirely. Along the same lines, it could be especially prevalent at ranks 1 and 2, players that might reach legend and lose motivation to play after achieving that key accomplishment.
I'm sure there are other motivations, but its not unreasonable to question the assertion Blizzards matchmaking algorithms are completely fair/randomized, as other parts of the game are most definitely not, for example: the appearance rates of cards in arena drafts is micromanaged in bucket systems, packs have pity timers etc.
