posted a message on Crystal Core and Silence
    Quote from Rusther >>

Today I was competing against a Quest Rogue as Miracle Priest.
He used Crystal Core after all his board was full of 5/5s and I used a Mass Dispel.
Well the result amazed me all 5/5s stayed as 5/5s and I was stood there looking as an id@!$#ot. My first thought was if it was some sort of a bug. After that I used Kabal Songstealer on another buffed 5/5 and still there was not other effect expect the silence chains.

Am I confused or something? I checked the text under his minions and the only thing that was written was Crystal Core (so this means that upgrating them into 5/5s is a buff).
As another example if this 5/5 thing was a class specificication how did I manage to steal the 5/5 as a 5/5 in another game? I don't remember how but somehow I manage to put my hands on one of their 5/5s (Pint-Size & Kabal, Sylvanas, MCTech) doesn't matter the 5/5 stood as it was as a buffed 5/5 minion, so this means that if I could steal it a 5/5 this is a general concept and not some sort of class specification.

I remember how surprised I was too when I did the exact same thing. The problem is that Crystal Core's buffs don't work like every other buff in the game so it just isn't intuitive. The other thing that caught me off guard was when I played Leeroy after the other guy played Crystal Core and he got two 5/5 tokens out of it.
The nice thing is once you make the mistake once, you don't do it again.

So back to what I was saying, Murloc Warleader is really "While this is in play, your other Murlocs have +2 attack. Battlecry: Give your other Murlocs +1 health."
No that's not it at all. If a Murloc is above its original max the it would lose the Heath back to original i.e. -1 health when warleader dies. Or if something else changes its max health like Crazed Alchemist and warleader is in play then the aura refreshes and will increase the new health above by +1
Drop Finja, 2/4.  Play Warleader, Finja gets +2/+1 and is 4/5.  Deal 2 damage to Finja, Finja is now 4/3.  Kill off Warleader, Finja should lose the buff.  Explain how (4-2)/(3-1) = 2/3
How do you not understand auras are taken off the maximum not the current health. The aura can only be taken off from the 5 to finjas original 4 Health. But once the health hits 4 or below it won't be taken off when warleader dies. It works the same with Stormwind Champion. I don't know why you can't understand that.
So if Warleader dies while Finja is at 1 health, it heals for 2?
Yeah how do I not understand that....it's so straightforward.
No it stays at 1 hp cause 1 is below 4. The aura only acts on the max health ie 5 to 4. Urg! I give up I'm bashing my head against a brick wall.
That still doesn't explain how a 4/3 Finja goes to 2/3 when Warleader dies (and still doesn't make sense that it works that way).
Also I'm preeeeeety certain that's not how Stormwind works (with the exception of when it leaves the board when minions are at 1 health).  A 5/5 minion that takes 2 damage while Stormwind is on board will go to 5/3 when it leaves, not 5/4.
This is exactly how I remembered Stormwind Champion working which is why I was so surprised when Finja didn't drop by one health.
Edit: Well, just tested it, and that is how it works. Minions keep the health they gain from buffs.

posted a message on Question about Murloc Warleader

Murloc Warleader gives murlocs +2/+1. When it dies, shouldn't the extra health go away? For example, a 4/3 Finja is on the board, the Murloc Warleader gets killed, shouldn't Finja drop down to 2/2?

Just played a game where it kept the health, and dropped to 2/3. Very confused right now because I've been playing 3 years and I thought I understood all of the rules.

posted a message on New to Hearthstone....suggestions?

When you decide to start playing the ladder, I would suggest playing the classes that allow you to build the best budget decks. These are typically shaman, hunter, and warlock (zoo). Unfortunately if you want to be able to play the majority of the decks, you will need to invest quite a bit of money into the game.

As a new player, once you feel comfortable with all of the mechanics I would give arena a try. It will give you a level playing field since your opponents won't be able to beat you with all of the cards that you don't have. There is a great resource (www.heartharena.com) that will give you guidance when doing your draft. I also feel like arena teaches a lot of important concepts such as card advantage, how to make the right trades, and proper mana utilization.

posted a message on Legendary Cards in Un'goro

So far every expansion has had 20 legendary cards. If each class gets a legendary minion and a legendary quest card, that would already result in 18 legendary cards for the set. What do you guys think the break down will be with legendary cards in Un'goro. Quests seem like a lot of fun and I would like to see one for each class personally.

posted a message on Adventures were not profitable

The thing that I enjoy most about adventures is that for 5-6 weeks you get people experimenting with the new cards to build new decks. Even though the expansions have more cards, since they come out all at once it feels like the meta is set more quickly.

From a money standpoint, I pay for adventures, use gold for expansions. $20 or 2800 gold = adventure. $20 = 15 packs. 2800 gold = 28 packs. Seems like a no-brainer if you are going to spend money on one, you would spend it on adventures.

posted a message on Average player that never broke rank 11, flirts with Legend...

Hearthstone is a card game. All card games inherently have luck tied into the drawing mechanism. If you play a lot, you will inherently lose a lot. Once you accept that, it makes the losses much easier to manage. I think accepting that is a really important step towards consistently reaching high ranks.

congrats on your strong finish, and good luck next month.

My other big piece of advice is to look at hand size as a resource. You want to continue to make 1 for 2 trades, meaning you use 1 card to remove the effects of 2 of his cards.

See, this is good advice for when you're playing an atrition/control/midrange deck against another slowish deck. When you're playing, let's say a somewhat aggressive hunter deck, you might just want to curve out every turn by weaving your hero power in there and just start grinding your opponent's face from turn 5. Arena is not just midrange/control match ups and the hardest part is imo knowing when to shift gears and go into smorc mode.
Agreed. You need to understand the strengths of each class. If you are playing hunter, you will most likely want to try to race your opponent down. If you are playing a more midrange class like paladin, mage, or rogue (my personnel favorites) you play the value game. One other really important point. It is almost always the correct decision to use your weapons to clear minions. Unless you able to kill your opponent, or are able to setup a next turn kill, you should always save your weapon strikes for board control.

Heartharena is really useful when drafting. I would highly recommend using that. It will update the suggested card picks based on what you've already selected.

posted a message on Is it worth buying MSoG in my case?

I think the cards in this set are really strong. You have 16k gold, what else are you saving it for? I would buy at least 80 packs just so you get the full set of commons are rares.

I think Blizzard learned their lesson in GvG/Naxx and won't be printing OP neutral cards anymore. I would expect this to be the power level of future expansions.

posted a message on How should I get legend...

I think for people that regularly hit legend, the goal is to grind up the ladder as quickly as possible. The quickest way to climb is to have short games. If you're playing pirate warrior or aggro shaman, you typically know by turn 6 if you're going to win. It isn't really until you get to high legend where your win rate is more important than just your total number of wins.

I know it sucks getting beat by a pirate warrior on turn 5 when you get a bad draw, but would it really be easier to hit legend if every game was a 20 minute control match that went to fatigue? Without aggro, that would be the meta.

This deck is super strong. I'm winning most games by turn 6 with it.
