Used to be a decent control class, then they made it into an aggro-shit fest, then they nerfed the core card of every warrior deck to deal with the aggro shit-fest.
They'll probably just push some tempo-nonsense this expansion, like they always do. They should just remove it from the game and add something new. I played a ton of control warrior and it's just sad to look at the class now.
Cards is broken as heck. It would be balanced out by strong control decks, but priest is currently the strongest control class... so yeah. Drakonid will carry in slow MUs.
Mid-range pally used to completely crush control priest, as long as you hero-powered enough. Obviously times have changed considerably, both in tempo and value... but token paladin builds takes that tactic up to 11 and exploits priests main problem... it is very inefficient for priest to do small amounts of damage (yes, even with raza+dk).
As a new player (and HS was my first virtual card game) I did worse things. E.g., I would play Mirror Image on Turn 1 because playing something is better than not playing anything, right?
Also, another reason why new players make such mistakes is the disastrous AI of the Innkeeper. You learn nothing about the strategy in the tutorial phase or later, battling the AI to unlock the basic cards. No wonder you then Holy Smite face if that's what the mighty Bli$$ard developers suggested to you.
It could be correct, depending on your hand and opponent class.
As for the OP, you're ignoring the schooling effect. If most new players go face too much, then going face could suddenly become correct (the easiest example would be when you have most damage dealing minions) for one of them.
A typical example of that was when playing freeze mage. Proven bad players might refuse refuse to clear your scientists / hoarders, which would often (but not always) mean that going face was the correct play (for the freeze mage), but versus a better opponent it presumably means he has a better answer in hand. So what's correct at rank 4 might not necessarily be correct at rank 17.
Also damage to face is a directly winning factor, all other win-conditions have to translate themselves into damage. No, this doesn't mean that it is necessarily correct to go face, but it might be the lesser mistake you'd make.
No, not yet. I'm pondering to stop playing HS. It has gotten notably more expensive. No, it won't put you on the street or anything, but it's looking like about 100 euros per expansion will be the price to stay competitive with the amount of decks I like to have vs how much I have time to play, and at that point I have to start asking if it really delivers that much enjoyment... especially considering that a lot of the aspects I loved the most about the game have diminished (very few tactical decisions left).
This is my list, which worked decently. 2xDMH is mostly for the memes, 1 is more than enough. 2 was mostly to make warlocks and priests cry. If you want to go full fatigue, replace stonehills for deathlords (not much diff vs aggro, weaker to midrange) and if you want to go balls to the wall fatigue replace acolytes with coldlights (weaker vs aggro and midrange).
I don't play it much, played it a bit more in the beginning of my HS career.
It is a lot weaker than ladder, far more misplays, deck inclusions that are simply stupid (and I'm not talking about people "basic decks"... a) I don't see them and b) They are not relevant) and without the lack of competitive element it also seems people just play far more haphazardly.
Perhaps it's like ladder to rank 15... at worst. It certainly can't compare to anything below 10 and seems extremely low-bar compared to 5+.
I play both of these decks. Raza feels like it can be more powerful, but feels like you're balancing on a tightrope a lot of the time. Big EZ feels almost as strong, but comes off as extremely forgiving, doesn't even seem to matter much if I play like shit.
Anyone else noticed the same, or am I just imagining things?
It's not a complaint about "my bad luck", I even won 3 of those games because the BS was fairly equally distributed.
If only more people said things like this.
I think randomness is something that people playing a card game should expect, I mean, if you play 30 games in a day and you have one broken/lucky game, the odds are equal that you will have the opposite later. For example, I got 3 Tirion Fordring off 3 Stonehill Defenders (one was brought back by Kodo), but then the next game the best card I got off my Stonehill Defenders was Booty Bay Bodyguard. I think often a lot of the time things like that happen and it's just 'win more'. A lot of people get very mad because they were going to lose anyway. Randomness doesn't mean too much for the better players, just look at how Purple played in the recent tournament, Tom60299 and Uya both drew not only better than him, but mostly the absolute nuts, however he was able to come out the winner in his games. People who complain about random effects should really go and play chess or something IMO, and I bet they're the same people who don't complain when they get Pyroblasts off their Tomes. The bottom line is, human beings are quite fickle, we never lose anything because it's due to lack of skill or the opponent playing better, and the only thing we have to complain about is 'luck', thereafter that. Who ever lost a game due to the opponent playing better? Honestly, you never hear it!
But yeah, I lose games at times and I will make the reference to chess again, I'm not playing HS for everything to be one dimensional, I'm playing HS because most games are different and the randomness often adds to the fun!
To clarify I don't mind if a paladin summons a few extra Tirions. I just think it dilutes from the uniqueness of the classes when it (and cards like it) pop up in all kinds of other classes.
Met Tirion 4 games in a row. None of the opponents were paladins.
It's not a complaint about "my bad luck", I even won 3 of those games because the BS was fairly equally distributed.
But I do feel that it takes away from the unique feel of class legendaries when they're just strewn about in random summons / discovers / evolves. A lot of games also just feel like they were interesting, then a broken combo of a legendary from outside your class makes you unable to lose the game even if you tried or vice versa.
I feel like random effects should exclude class cards from (outside your class) appearing, unless the theme is specifically about nabbing them (burgle).
Rogue lists have to push the tempo, games should largely be closed out by T8+. You ain't a control paladin (which is a good think, because priests would kill you).

And allow these cards to enter the meta without good counters?
That would be a horrible idea.

Razakus only sees play IN control decks. Logic does not compute.

Why the curator package?
